Chapter 36

Alex screamed as the basement floor gave way beneath him tumbling him into the darkness. Alex flailed his arms trying to grab onto anything to slow his descent. “Kelile help!” Alex yelled, remembering he wasn't alone, but nothing happened until suddenly he hit the floor. “Oooof,” Alex uttered. Gathering himself he looked up in time to see the hole he fell through seal itself closed. “Where am I?” he muttered out loud.

  “Alex,” whispered a familiar voice.

  “Hello?” Alex called.

“Alex, you must help,” said the voice

“How? What can I do?” Alex asked.

“Listen to him. He will guide you. You must help us,” the voice responded.

“Who? Kelile? I can trust him?” Alex questioned, slowly spinning, taking in his surroundings.

“Yessssssss, he will show you the way,” the voice responded.

  “Okay, I will,” Alex replied.

“You must save us, everything depends on you,” the voice whispered. With that the ground shifted and Alex was thrust back upwards.

“Alex? Alex!” Kelile was next to Alex on the floor shaking his unconscious body. Alex sat up suddenly, his head slamming into Kelile’s.

“Owwwww,” Alex groaned, reaching up to rub his forehead.

“Are you alright?” Kelile exclaimed, rubbing his own head.

“Yeah,” muttered Alex, “I just fell through the ground and talked to no one… again.”

“You performed a gemeente?” Kelile queried, “Just now?”

“What is a gemeente?” Alex replied.

“Communing with the earth, or attuning with it,” Kelile answered. “Did you try to do that? Just now?”

“No, I mean we were just talking and then all of a sudden I was falling through the ground,” Alex said.

“What did you see or hear?” Kelile questioned further.

“Ummm, after I stopped falling, a voice called my name, but when I looked around there was no one there. It asked me to help though and said that I could trust you,” Alex finished looking up at Kelile’s worried face.

“It did?” Kelile asked, his voice softening.

“Yeah, do you know who the voice belongs to?” Alex asked, dusting himself off as he stood up.

“I am surprised you haven't figured it out yet,” Kelile remarked with a slight smile on his face. “From what I remember from your mother, that is the Earth itself speaking to you.”

“What? That isn't possible, the earth isn't a conscious being,” Alex sputtered.

“Oh Alex, I am so sorry I could not raise you and teach you about our people,” Kelile replied sadly. “Of course the earth is conscious. It can feel, it provides life, it shelters. Our connection to the planet is the most crucial part of who we are.”

“The scientist in me wants to disprove everything you have just said, but there is a deeper part of me that knows it's true,” Alex admitted.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“That is the beweegist in you. Who you are deep down, reaching out to the earth, trying to connect,” Kelile said gently.

Alex sighed, frowning slightly, as he contemplated everything, “So every time I have had these visions or whatever they are, it was the earth doing it? The earth is trying to show me something?”

“Have you ever tried to reach out purposely?” Kelile inquired.

“No, everytime I have had these visions have been random. I was lying in bed, or would be laying on the grass. On my flight out here I had a really weird dream..” Alex admitted.

“They aren't random Alex, if you have had a vision it was meant for you to have it. The earth is reaching out to you most likely because you don't know how to complete a gemeente, but it needs someone to communicate with,” Kelile explained.

“Why me though? Why not someone else? Someone that knows how or what's going on?” Alex pondered.

“I told you the kingdom is in chaos. Those who hold the throne don't want peace. The turmoil they are causing is harming the planet. You are the true heir to the Earthen Throne and the planet knows that. That is why it is coming to you. Trying to speak to you,” Kelile replied.

“So what do I do? How can I help?” Alex asked.

“I’ll train you,” Kelile said simply. “We will start tomorrow. For now let's go back up and tell me about the visions you have had.” Kelile headed up the stairs with Alex behind him and went back to the sitting room. “Okay, I’m all ears,” he said plopping down on the armchair.

Alex sat across from him and took a deep breath, “I will try, I don't know if I will remember everything.” Alex began with the dream he had on the plane. It took a few hours to go through all he could remember as Kelile would question him on all he said. Getting as much information out of Alex as he could remember.

“And then the one that I just had here,” Alex finished with a yawn. He looked out the window and noticed the sun was setting.

“Interesting,” Kelile said, leaning forward in his seat. “So that is everything you can remember?”

“Yes, I think so. I wish I had known these meant something sooner so I could have written them down,” Alex expressed.

“Well, that is a good start for now. Gives me a base idea of what you have been through,” Kelile said. “Get a good night's rest. You have been through enough today. When you wake in the morning we will start your training.”

“Alright,” Alex yawned as he stood up and looked around. “Uh, rooms upstairs?”

“Yes, sorry, there should be some clothes you can use as well if you would like to take a shower,” Kelile replied. He stood then and walked to the front door, his hands lightly glowing.

“What are you doing?” Alex asked, pointing at his hands.

“I am going to set some traps around the perimeter. Make sure no one sneaks up on us while we are sleeping,” Kelile replied with a grin.

“Oh, good idea,” Alex said slowly.

“Go and rest Alex.. Nothing will happen to you while I am here,” Kelile assured him.

Alex nodded and walked up the stairs glancing back to see Kelile exit the door. Continuing up, he reached the landing and looked around. There were three bedrooms and a bathroom. Alex approached the room opposite the stairs and saw there was nothing in it aside from a bed and night table. He walked to the next door and saw the room was set up the same except for a bag with some clothing in it. Walking closer he dug through it and saw a mishmash of clothing. This must be the stuff he was talking about, he thought as he picked out a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt.

Alex took the clothes and went to the bathroom. Looking at himself in the mirror he shook his head. What in the world have I gotten myself into, he thought, I don't know what I thought would happen when I exposed my powers, but it definitely wasn't this. Getting in the shower, Alex let the water wash the day away. Getting out he put the fresh clothes on and went back to the room the bag was in.

Pulling back the blanket he laid down and stared at the ceiling going over everything that had happened. “This is crazy,” he said out loud to himself. “Maybe it's a bad dream?” Looking around the room he sighed, “Who am I kidding, I don't think I could make this up.” Rolling over, he closed his eyes and waited for sleep to take him. When darkness came it claimed him swiftly.

  “Alex,” called an unfamiliar voice.

  “Who is it?”Alex called back.

“Allllleeeeeeeexxxxxxxx,” the voice replied, it almost sounded like chimes on the wind.

“Who are you?” Where are you?” Alex replied searching in the mist that surrounded him. Suddenly a gust of wind surged at him.

  “RUN!” shrieked the voice.
