After a few minutes of walking following his guide, Alexander arrived at the doors of the adventurer's guild, where the employee bid farewell and left.
"So this is the adventurer's guild branch in this city," he thought. "It looks simple, but is still quite large…"
Upon entering the Guild, Alexander noticed there was no line at the reception and went straight to one of the attendants. But her gaze wasn't on him, but on Ocean, who accompanied him.
"Sorry for the trouble, but could you tell me how to register?" Alexander asked.
"I'll get a registration form and explain it to you," replied the receptionist with a mix of professional smile and strangeness. "But I'd like to ask that in the future you don't enter the Guild with him without prior authorization," she added, pointing at Ocean.
Alexander then shrugged and replied: "It's she and not he… And I only brought her because I was told I would need to register her too, as only then would she be able to enter cities with me safely."
"You didn't need to bring her. You just had to notify me and I would bring you an additional form," explained the receptionist. "As for how to register, you'll just need to answer some questions and pay the fee."
"What is the fee amount?" he probed.
"Normally it would cost you 1 small silver coin. But when registering with a familiar the cost increases to 1 large silver coin," she replied professionally.
"Here it is," said Alexander upon parting with 1/13 of all the coins he had to pay the fee.
The receptionist was a bit surprised to see Alexander, who seemed quite simple/humble, take out 1 large silver coin as if he didn't care, but said nothing and continued with her work. "Alright, let's start. What is your name and age?"
"How should I answer this question?" Alexander asked himself for a few seconds before making a decision. "I'll just answer as it is in the status and see her reaction."
"Alexander Ocean, 14 years old. I think…"
"What do you mean you think?" questioned the Receptionist. "Besides, aren't you very young?"
"Interesting," thought Alexander. "She didn't doubt I was 14 years old… Better take advantage and continue investigating."
Alexander lowered his head and began scratching the back of his neck trying to look embarrassed. "I live off hunting and this time I was away for so long I ended up forgetting what date we're on."
"We are on the 3rd day of the 15th month of the year 999. It won't be long before we enter the year 1000," informed the receptionist. "How can a person be so obtuse about such an important moment."
"I just received another important piece of information," Alexander celebrated in thought. "It was really worth shooting in the dark…"
"If we're still in the same year, I'm still 14," replied Alexander. "But I'm ready to be 15 or whatever age you say/think I need to be," he concluded, without the slightest shame.
"Do you think this is a joke?" the receptionist asked seriously.
"Of course not. But… but… I need to earn money," said Alexander, trying to appeal to the receptionist's sentimental side.
"Sigh… You don't need to be 15 years old to register," explained the receptionist. "But the Guild also can't simply send young, non-adult people to their deaths… Do you have any way to defend yourself?"
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"Another important piece of information. It seems the age of majority here is 15," Alexander analyzed before pointing at Ocean and replying: "Doesn't she count?"
"That's right. You are registering with a familiar," the receptionist remembered. "That should solve the problem."
"What is her name?" asked the receptionist.
"Ocean," he replied.
"Haha… How cute. You gave her your family name," commented the receptionist before returning to her work. "Description of your familiar?"
"Wolf – Magical Beast – 1st evolution," informed Alexander.
"Do you know her race?" asked the receptionist.
Hearing this question, Alexander pondered and replied: "Yes, but I would like that not to appear on her identification. Is that a problem?"
"I understand your request, as it's not so uncommon," the receptionist replied understandingly. "But it's not possible to hide this information from our records. The most I can do is change her description on the identification to blue wolf."
Realizing he wouldn't get much more than that, Alexander gladly accepted her offer. "Thank you for that. Ocean is of the {Sea Wolf} race."
"{Sea Wolf}?" the receptionist was surprised. "Keeping that information hidden is indeed a good choice, as they are rare around here."
"Do you wish to declare any combat experience?" she inquired, returning to Alexander's registration.
"Being able to fight against 1st evolution creatures, does that count?" he asked.
"It counts if you have something or someone who can attest to that for you," replied the receptionist.
"On the way here I helped some adventurers, but I don't see them around," said Alexander. "So all I have to confirm what I said are the things I got from the creatures I killed… Does that work?"
"I can include that in your form for verification if you provide me with some of those materials," said the receptionist. "But the decision to accept them or not is up to the guild master."
As soon as their registration forms were finalized, the receptionist passed them to Alexander. "Here. Take a look and see if anything is wrong before I submit your request for the guild master to evaluate."
"Everything is in order," thought Alexander. "But if I leave it like this, things will get complicated in the future. Better to distort a bit from the start."
"Most of it is in order, but there's one piece of wrong information," said Alexander. "My race isn't exactly human. I am a hybrid."
"You don't look like a hybrid," replied the receptionist. "What kind of hybrid are you?"
"Do I really have to say?" asked Alexander, feigning resistance to sharing this information. "I don't mind being registered just as human."
"Unfortunately that's no longer possible," the receptionist replied assertively. "I can't hide information from the records… But I can put 'human' on your identification plate."
"Thank you," replied Alexander while using |False Status| to change his race from human to hybrid. "I am a human-dragonnewt hybrid."
As soon as Alexander used |False Status|, the sensation he transmitted changed to that of something not exactly human for a few seconds.
Feeling this change, the receptionist assumed it was Alexander actively demonstrating he was a hybrid and didn't ask much more.
"I understand why you want to keep it hidden, after all, dragonnewts are also rare around here. But you don't need to worry about that, because the Guild keeps its members' information confidential," said the receptionist, trying to reassure him.
Alexander felt she wasn't lying to him, but also knew she wasn't sure. This rule should exist, but only worked as long as the other party couldn't exert enough pressure, have enough power, or enough money.
"Done. Now just send your request and wait for the guild master to define your classification," explained the receptionist.
Since the Guild wasn't very busy, Alexander decided to wait there while observing the flow of people. With nothing to do but watch the movement, he took the opportunity to chat with the receptionist and obtain more information.
While talking, he occasionally threw in some questions about information he indirectly wanted and managed to discover a list of important information about that world:
This world uses the hour system and each day has 33 hours.
Each month has exactly 30 days and each year has exactly 15 months.
The Empire has 5 seasons and each lasts an average of 3 months.
The Guild provides various services and "welfare" benefits.
Among these "welfare" benefits is a glossary containing information about various types of monsters, beasts, magical beasts, and the like that the Guild has had contact with.
"It must have been made for adventurers to know what they are facing, or will face, and how to do it efficiently," Alexander presumed in thought. "It doesn't contain all the world's information, but for me, who desperately needs to know the possible weaknesses, special skills, and evolutionary paths of goblins, it's almost a godsend."
"Can I see this glossary?" asked Alexander, with shining eyes.
