Allen once again helped Morgan, the leader of the Night Demon Tribe, to his feet and forced him back into his seat.
"Do you really need the Godfall Battlefield pass token in my hand?" Allen asked, a trace of doubt flashing in his eyes.
"My Demon Tribe rules vast lands and possesses countless resources. We are not so poor that we need to fight over a human pass token, are we?"
Morgan was just about to struggle to his feet to apologize when Allen pressed a steady hand on his shoulder, leaving him no choice but to sit stiffly back down, his voice still trembling.
"Leah challenged you to a resource battle not for that human pass token.
After you reached the top of the Holy Demon Prison Tower, you were able to ignore the Shadow Domain talent of our Night Demon Tribe.
She feared that you might possess special magic capable of restraining the Demon Tribe, or that there might be an opposing power within your body that could bring hidden danger to our people.
That is why she wanted to use the duel to probe your true nature."
Allen nodded in sudden realization. It was out of tribal vigilance, not greed for resources.
His tone softened slightly."No need to be nervous. She is acting for the sake of the Demon Tribe. What crime is there in that?"
He paused, a calculating glint flashing in his eyes."Do not tell her to cancel the resource battle. Ending it abruptly would only arouse suspicion.
And do not reveal my identity for now. Otherwise, in tomorrow's duel, she might hold back and fight timidly. That would make it boring."
Allen had long grown used to the reactions of his subordinates. Aside from a few core confidants, most members of the Demon Tribe would lose all composure the moment they saw him, as if facing the god of death, unable to act normally at all.
Keller, at least, was still relatively calm. The others probably would not even dare to breathe.
Morgan nodded repeatedly, though his heart was still filled with unease.
Allen did not dwell on the matter. He turned to Keller beside him and said,"Keller, you came at just the right time. I have something I need your help with."
Keller immediately replied respectfully,"Please give the order. I would give my life to carry it out."
Allen smiled and stated his request."Do you have a way to obtain human pass tokens for entering the Godfall Battlefield? I have a friend who really needs them."
Keller nodded without hesitation."It can be done. How many do you need? When do you need them? I will arrange for manpower at once."
Allen thought for a moment. The tokens were useless to him, but if Evelyn wanted to enter the Godfall Battlefield multiple times to train, it would be good to have a few extra.
"Within the next couple of days. As for the quantity, prepare as many as you can."
Keller frowned slightly, showing a hint of difficulty."The timing is indeed tight. The human city states control the pass tokens very strictly, and it is hard to mobilize large quantities through normal channels in such a short time."
After a moment of thought, he offered a solution."Will twenty thousand tokens be enough? I can have them delivered to you the day after tomorrow."
When Allen did not respond, Keller added,"If that is not enough, I can deploy more people. At most four days, and we should be able to gather one hundred thousand tokens."
One hundred thousand? Allen stared at Keller in astonishment, the earlier comments from others flashing through his mind.
A single token was said to be worth tens of thousands of high grade magic crystals and was practically priceless. Yet from Keller's mouth, one hundred thousand tokens were merely a number to be gathered.
Only then did Allen truly realize that as the Demon King, the resources under his command had long surpassed the understanding of ordinary humans.
What others regarded as priceless treasures were, to him, nothing more than ordinary supplies that could be allocated in bulk.
Allen looked at Keller as if the Godfall Battlefield pass tokens were no more valuable than ordinary stones by the roadside.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
He quickly waved his hand and said,"There is no need for that many. Ten or so will be enough, just as backups for a friend."
The moment he finished speaking, Morgan raised his hand with a casual sweep, and ten tokens appeared on the table out of thin air, identical to the one Augustine had given.
"I happen to have some in reserve," Morgan said respectfully.
Allen stared at the tokens on the table, completely stunned. He asked in confusion,"Does our Demon Tribe not have its own teleportation arrays?"
"When you enter the Godfall Battlefield, do you really have to rely on the human teleportation arrays? Otherwise, why would you carry human pass tokens with you?"
In his understanding, the Demon Tribe ruled vast territories and should naturally possess a complete system of spatial transport, with no need to depend on human channels.
Keller explained,"With your power, you can naturally tear open space with your own magic and enter the Godfall Battlefield without using any array."
"But most of our people have not mastered spatial power, so they still rely on these pass tokens."
He paused, then looked at Morgan and added,"Our Demon Tribe's teleportation arrays are spread across the entire continent, far more numerous than humans can imagine."
"However, Morgan is responsible for intelligence gathering in this region. His subordinates are embedded in human academies and city states, so they cannot use Demon Tribe arrays."
"That would easily expose their identities. They must travel under human names and pass through human teleportation arrays, so carrying a few pass tokens is standard practice."
Allen nodded in sudden realization, silently admiring how meticulous the Demon Tribe's layout was, with so many agents planted within human territory.
He asked with interest,"Then have humans planted spies inside the Demon Tribe as well?"
Keller smiled and shook his head, his tone confident."No. Every branch of the Demon Tribe bears unique talent marks and shadow mana signatures that humans cannot imitate."
"They cannot replicate pure shadow mana, nor can they conceal their life aura. The moment they enter Demon Tribe territory, they are immediately exposed. This is a barrier that neither humans nor elves can overcome."
Allen nodded quietly, warning himself inwardly to stop asking.
As the Demon King, he knew nothing about such basic tribal knowledge. If he kept probing, he might reveal his otherworldly identity and arouse Keller and Morgan's suspicions.
He quickly changed the subject and chatted casually with them about recent conditions along the Demon Tribe's borders.
After confirming that there were no unusual movements among his forces, he gathered the ten pass tokens from the table, stood up, and took his leave to return to the academy.
Meanwhile, after Morgan returned to his hidden residence, the anxiety in his heart still pounded wildly, refusing to settle.
He paced back and forth in the courtyard, restless and uneasy.
After hesitating again and again, he finally decided to give Leah a warning. Even if he could not reveal the Demon King's identity, he had to make sure she held back in the duel and absolutely did not injure the Demon King.
"Someone, come here. Contact Leah for me," Morgan called out in a low voice.
A woman dressed in tight black attire stepped out from the side hall.
Seeing Morgan's solemn expression, she asked in confusion,"We contacted Leah just two days ago."
"Reaching out again after such a short interval will easily be noticed by the humans and increase the risk of her being exposed."
Morgan stopped, his brows tightly knit, and hesitated for a moment longer.
He feared revealing the Demon King's identity, yet he also feared Leah might unknowingly offend the Demon King. In the end, he clenched his teeth and made his decision.
"She must be warned. Go and contact Leah at once. No, I will go myself. This matter is too important. There can be no carelessness."
...
At the same time, inside Radiant Magic Academy.
"Leah's clothes were laid out on a hanger, and a black bone chain was continuously flickering with a faint green light."
Leah was still immersed in the relaxed calm after her bath and paid no attention to the bone chain's movement. She was focused on wiping the moisture from her skin.
Tomorrow was the day of her resource battle with Allen. In her view, as a Ninth tier Intermediate Mage, dealing with a newcomer who had just entered the Intermediate Mage rank would take no effort at all.
As for the strange aura around Allen, she already had a plan. Once she forced him into a corner, she would naturally be able to test whether he truly possessed a way to counter the Demon Tribe.
When she slowly slipped into her long dress, she finally caught sight of the glow from the bone chain. Its flashing was far more rapid than usual, clearly signaling an urgent message.
A flicker of doubt crossed her mind. She quickly grabbed the bone chain and walked to the dressing table.
She channeled a trace of shadow mana into her fingertips, activating the chain's communication function."Mentor, what has happened?"
The moment the words left her lips, an anxious voice sounded directly in her mind. Leah instantly recognized it as the voice of Morgan, the Night Demon leader.
The one who usually contacted her was her mentor, yet this time Morgan himself had reached out.
"Leah, I finally reached you. There is something I must tell you right away."
"What is it?" Leah frowned as she asked.
As a leader, Morgan rarely contacted clan members who were embedded outside, unless it was a matter concerning the survival of the tribe.
She instinctively tightened her grip on the bone chain, unease rising in her chest.
Morgan's tone was filled with bitterness."We have caused a terrible disaster. I only just learned the truth."
"The Demon King is inside your Radiant Magic Academy right now, and the opponent you will face in tomorrow's resource battle is him."
Leah froze in place, her mind going completely blank, unable to process Morgan's words for a long moment.
The Night Demon Tribe was only a mid level clan within the Demon Tribe's domain, low in status.
To them, the title of Demon King was nothing more than a legendary supreme ruler who governed the entire Demon Tribe.
He was a being even Morgan could scarcely come into contact with. She had never imagined she would ever cross paths with the Demon King.
"The Demon King is in our academy? And he is going to fight me in a resource battle tomorrow?"
Leah's voice trembled as Allen's face suddenly flashed through her mind.
An absurd yet singular thought surfaced."It cannot be Allen, can it?"
Morgan fell silent for a moment, then confirmed in a heavy tone,"Yes. It is him."
