PHEW Okay. You don't have to read this to read the story, but I like to have a foreword to put all my thoughts into.
First I want to say that I've learned a lot from writing Newt and Demon and Gladesbale. Some hard lesson and some easy ones, you know how it goes. I've tried really hard to put those lessons into this series. System Scribe Academy is my favorite thing I've written so far, and I think it strikes the absolute perfect balance between cozy/SoL and plot stuff. So, I'll do a little Q/A style thing below if you're on the fence around reading this.
Yo, how cozy is it?
System Scribe Academy is like book 1 Newt and Demon cozy. The MC actively avoids involvement in god-level things, and typically only concerns himself with fixing system problems. By design, he's overpowered in a way that makes him immune to most of that nonsense. Any more is spoilers lol.
Romance?
No, not really. I don't have any plans to make it happen, because I don't really see Ethan as a guy who cares about that stuff.
Do I need to read Newt and Demon to read this?
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Absolutely not. Although characters from Newt and Demon show up, this takes place 400 years after the last chapter for Newt and Demon, so there are a lot of developments that have happened.
How soon do the students murder each other?
I wrote the academy structure specifically so that students aren't (on average) really at the academy for very long. The average time they stay is about 2-3 years, and during that time they're typically too busy to turn attention to other students. In the academy Ethan is in (Gale House Specifically) merit comes from helping. The purpose of the academy is to HELP the wider system. These students (who, btw, are on average early to mid twenties) are trying to learn how to use their class as quickly as they can to fight system-generated monsters, which is the biggest threat outside of the academy. The Academy World has a 0 tolerance policy for unsanctioned violence against other students.
Theme?
That's not really a question, imaginary question-asker. But my new series are broken into themes (typically pairs) focused on characters or a group of characters from Newt and Demon. This theme focuses on the "Royal Family" from N&D, specifically Armel and Silvain Batteux. Each book is then broken into a sub-theme with Book 1 just being the intro. Yeah, a 220,000 word intro that was a good idea.
I'll add to this if I think of anything else, which may include a glossary if people get too confused about what's going on. Hey, it makes sense to me so it must make sense to everyone else, right? Bzzzt.
Anyway, consider leaving a review if you liked it. Join the discord and tell me what you did or didn't like etc. I'm moving quickly with this one, so I likely won't retroactively change stuff, but I'm always adding reader suggestions going forward.
