Chapter 14: Monday

  Chapter 14: Monday

Drifting in the empty space, the reminiscing man remembered the day he bought clothes to his family… I hate to admit it, but Catelyn really looked good in her new outfit. The kids looked cute too. I felt a great deal of pride after seeing them in the new clothes I bought, didn’t I? Nothing happened during the night, then came Monday.

  …

After returning from shopping yesterday, the residents of the former orphanage building had gotten a good number of new clothes with fashionable appearance.

Shade spent some time cleaning his room after breakfast. Noticing that he had some time left before he had to work, he decided to take a walk.

After taking the bag with Mr. Magician’s clothes in it, Shade walked out of the building and locked the front door. Walking down the street like the first time he headed for the Silver Moon Private Detective Agency.

The tramps lining the streets had just woken up and decided to move before law enforcement forces them to. People trying to get to work filled the streets and shops opening for the day were reflected in Shade’s eyes.

Shade reached the street where the detective agency was located on and started thinking… Should I arrive early?

Before Shade could even make a choice, he heard a voice coming from behind him.

  “Mr. Magician?”

Shade turned around and saw the saintess, Ms. Silver. Her black hair tied in a ponytail and her black long coat looked exactly the same as when Shade first saw her.

“Ms. Silver? Good morning, are you on your way to the detective agency building?”

  “I am… Good morning.”

The beautiful but monotone voice answered Shade’s question, her eyes looked Shade up and down.

Though this was only the second time Shade had met Ms. Silver, he felt that something was off. His instincts whispered to him. It was as if the person in front of him was Ms. Silver, but it wasn’t her face.

Ms. Silver looked at the young man in front of her and then looked at the tattered bag he carried around. She thought for a moment then made her choice.

  “Follow me. But first, change.”

Silver pointed at the bag that Shade was holding and then turned to point at a public toilet room. Some places had public toilet rooms where one could pay 2 pence and use it.

Shade thought for a moment and decided it was best to do as he was told, because the other party should be the boss of his boss. Shade went to the public toilet room and inserted 2 pence into a slot and waited for the mechanical parts inside the door to unlock it.

After changing his clothes, Mr. Magician went out of the toilet room and searched for Ms. Silver. She didn’t move from her spot.

“Ms. Silver, I apologize for the wait. Where are we going?”

Ms. Silver looked at Mr. Magician and noticed that he had an artifact on him. She didn’t react to his new appearance at all, as if she already knew that Mr. Rouge had given him new clothes. She thought for a moment before answering Mr. Magician’s question.

“The police station. Andrew is here.”

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Without missing a beat, a carriage rolled up next to the pair of mystics and the driver was Andrew. With a smile, he greeted the two mystics.

“Mr. Magician, your shift hasn’t even started yet but here you are, already ready to head out on your first commission. Please, do get in!”

After greeting Andrew, the mystics entered the carriage and Ms. Silver instructed Andrew through the little window in the carriage to head to the police station.

Ms. Silver cast her gaze towards Mr. Magician and then snapped her fingers. The temperature inside the carriage dropped slightly, while Mr. Magician felt a bit oppressed by the new sensation that invaded his senses… Weird, is it because she is a stronger Mystic than me?

Mr. Magician understood that Ms. Silver did something with her spirit characteristics when she snapped her fingers, but he didn’t know what she did. Before he could ask a question, Ms. Silver opened her mouth to speak.

  “Sound suppression.”

Ms. Silver turned her head to look out of one of the windows in the carriage. Mr. Magician didn’t say a word for a moment, he simply nodded while looking at her… Why do I keep getting the feeling that that isn’t her face? Am I getting crazy or am I seeing something that I couldn’t before?

As if sensing his gaze, Ms. Silver turned her head and looked at the young man in front of her.

  “Illusion.”

  “Illusion?”

Ms. Silver said one simple word explaining the question inside Mr. Magician’s mind. Mr. Magician couldn’t help but repeat the word she had said, this prompted her to simply nod then turn her head to look out the window again.

Silence followed and the mood turned awkward. Ms. Silver didn’t show any emotion on her face while Mr. Magician pursed his lips.

Mr. Magician didn’t plan on asking if Ms. Silver thought the current mood was awkward. Instead, he planned to clear the awkward mood by asking about why they were heading for the police station.

He cleared his throat and opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by the stoic woman in front of him.

“A commission. Locating criminals and aiding arrest.”

  “I see…”

Mr. Magician would have been a bit irritated for being interrupted if it wasn’t for the fact that that was probably the

longest thing Ms. Silver has said yet. Ms. Silver’s gaze was locked on him once again as she continued her explanation.

“The main churches and sects that are cooperating with the police received multiple commissions from the police this morning. We, the Silver Moon believers are one such sect.

Except from Mr. Specter, everybody has been assigned commissions. You are far too weak to work with anybody else but me and

Mr. Rouge. Ms. Snow is paired with Mr. Rouge, I get you.”

Shocked from how much Ms. Silver has spoken,

Mr. Magician couldn’t do anything but nod. The rest of the carriage ride was silent. After the mystics stepped off the carriage, Andrew was told to wait for their return.

The two mystics entered the police station and were greeted by a police lieutenant. He showed them to a room where they had the victim’s personal belongings, reports, and documents in folders. The police lieutenant in charge started explaining the situation.

“A civilian heard a scream late at night and ran to get a police officer. When the police officer arrived, he saw a well-dressed man in white, standing in a pool of blood and human parts.

The officer described the man as having a demonic aura, our upper echelon has already narrowed down the suspects but have no time to handle this specific case. The man had blood around his mouth.”

The police lieutenant stopped for a moment as he shivered. Mr. Magician felt his mouth starting to water as he continued to listen.

“The officer then said that he witnessed the man fly up into the air after saying his farewells. I have given the officer some time off because of the… hallucinations.

We have our hands full and can’t handle every case coming to us. That is why we contacted you… and the others. I wish you luck.”

The lieutenant left the room and let the mystics work undisturbed. Mr. Magician was once told by Ms. Snow that there is a special team within the police force that knows about the existence of mystics and employs the mystics from different churches and sects when their own has their hands full.

“Ms. Silver, that sounds like another mystic.”

Ms. Silver looked at the tattered clothes on the table and remained quiet for a moment before saying anything.

  “Yes… Probably, part of Gourmet.”

  “Gourmet?”

Ms. Silver took up one of the folders on the table, she looked through the folder and then turned to Mr. Magician while ignoring his first question.

“Divinating the target’s location won’t work. The target of divination is already dead… eaten.”

Mr. Magician gulped, he felt his body shiver while his thoughts began to race… Eaten? That sounds like my desire. Will I be meeting another like me? A monster that eats human flesh.

Ms. Silver understood what was on Mr. Magician’s mind, she decided to placate his mental state.

“You are different. You fight it, they indulge in their desire.”

Though it was only one sentence, that one sentence calmed him down. Mr. Magician nodded and promised that he will be focusing on the commission.
