The sound of the Cabal members entering the building and approaching their room filled the air with tension.
Ciel's hands trembled uncontrollably, her fear almost palpable. "What are we gonna do? We...we're powerless against them..."
Jax tried to look calm, but his fear was evident. "We have to fight, Ciel. There's no other choice.”
Elara felt a spark of determination flicker within her despite the dire situation. They weren't helpless. They had to fight.
"Jax's right," she declared, her voice firm. "We can't just give up. We have to at least try."
Ciel looked at Elara, her fear mixing with a glimmer of hope. "But...they're so strong..."
"Meh," Jax shrugged nonchalantly, "We still have Adeyemi," he said, gesturing to the female knight.
Elara's lips curled into a small smirk at Jax's words. He was right; they still had Adeyemi.
"You're right," she said, regaining a bit of her cool composure. "Adeyemi's a powerful ally. We can use her skills to our advantage."
Ciel seemed to cling to Elara's confidence, taking comfort in her words. "Yeah...yeah, you're right. We still have a chance, right?”
Elara nodded firmly, trying to reassure Ciel. "We do," she affirmed. "We just need to stay focused and fight as a team."
Ciel, though still scared, seemed a bit more hopeful than before. "Right, as a team. We can do this."
Meanwhile, the Cabal members were nearing the room, their footsteps echoing down the hallway until...
BAM!
Cassie kicked down the heavy door, revealing the room to her and the other three Cabal members.
Elara, Ciel, and Jax were caught off-guard as the door slammed open, revealing the four Cabal members.
Cassie, along with her other three companions, stepped into the room, their presence filling the space with an aura of menace.
"Well, well," the demon girl drawled, her voice dripping with sadistic humor, "What do we have here? A little gathering of unwanted pests.”
Elara scowled at Cassie's mocking tone, her anger flaring. "We're not 'pests'," she retorted, her voice low and firm.
Cassie chuckled, amused by Elara's defiance. "Oh, is that so?" she asked, her tone laced with mockery. "You certainly look like pests to me. Weak and pathetic. You think you can stand against us?"
"I do," Adeyemi spoke for the first time, the ancient knight taking a step forward, making her armor creak.
At Adeyemi's declaration, Cassie's smirk faded slightly. Her eyes turning light gray for a moment, she sized up the ancient knight with a hint of caution. "Adeyemi, huh?" she said, her tone changing from mocking to slightly more serious. "A powerful ally indeed."
Adeyemi balled her fists with a flustered scoff. "Hey, how do you know my name?!”
Cassie chuckled, her confident smirk returning. "Oh, well let me tell ya, Adeyemi. See, eating souls is my thing, and one of the individuals whose soul I ate could discern the abilities and personal info of others. And you, I see that you're a 'great' warrior" she replied, emphasizing the word 'great' sarcastically. "Your reputation precedes you.”
Adeyemi clenched her jaw at demon girl's mocking. She didn't appreciate the tone.
"Shut up!" she snapped, her voice rising. "I am powerful!"
Cassie's smirk widened. "Oh, really?" she taunted, clearly enjoying the knight's reaction. "I bet you're all bark and no bite.”
Adeyemi was fuming at this point, her chest heaving with anger. No one had ever doubted her abilities before, and she wasn't about to let this demon girl do so now.
"You think I'm all talk?! I'll show you, you arrogant little...!" she growled, taking another step forward.
Cassie just laughed, clearly enjoying taunting the now-irritated knight. "Go on, then," she provoked, "Show me your big, tough warrior skills, great knight.”
Adeyemi was seething now, but before she could retort, Ciel intervened, placing a firm hand on her shoulder. "Adeyemi," she said, her voice calmer and more authoritative, "Calm down. She's just trying to get under your skin."
Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
Adeyemi grit her teeth but took a deep breath, clearly trying to compose herself. Ciel had a point. Getting worked up would only play into the demon girl's hands.
The demon girl, now slightly disappointed that her taunt had been interrupted, let out a soft tsk. "Aww, look at that. How sweet," she said mockingly. "Ciel's trying to be a diplomat. How noble."
Ciel shot the demon girl an icy glare. "Maybe someone here has to be, demon lady," she responded coolly.
Cassie waved a hand dismissively, her smirk spreading further across her demonic features. "Heh, just call me Cassie! Those four syllables are a mouthful.”
Zofie, who had been silently observing the exchange, couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the demon girl's introduction. "Cassie," she repeated, the name rolling off her tongue. It seemed almost too casual for someone who looked like a harbinger of doom. "Quite a friendly name for someone who's trying to threaten and intimidate us.”
Cassie chuckled darkly at Zofie’s observation. "Oh, you like it? I like it too. It fits me well."
Adeyemi, still bristling at Cassie's taunts, let out a huff. "Enough banter. Just get to the point already."
Cassie shrugged nonchalantly, her smirk never faltering. "Oh, impatient too. You're feisty, aren't you?”
Elara clenched her fists, her patience wearing thin with Cassie's relentless teasing. "Just say why you're here," she snapped.
Cassie feigned a surprised expression. "Huh? You want to know why we're here?"
Elara's patience was almost at its limits now. "Yes! We want to know why you're here," she retorted, her voice tight.
"Heh. In that case, I'll just let Lotte explain it to ya," she replied, putting her hand on Lotte's shoulder.
Lotte, the doctor lady, had been silently observing the exchange, her expression unreadable. But at Cassie's gesture, she finally spoke, her voice flat and monotone.
"We're here for the gem sprite," she said, her tone matter-of-fact.
Elara's eyes widened at Lotte's words. "...Me? What do you want with me?" she demanded, protectiveness surging through her.
Lotte's eyes flicked in Elara's direction, her cold gaze almost emotionless as she observed the gem sprite. "Well, scratch that. We could negotiate if you'd like. You release Gabrielle, get off our trail, and we can both pretend none of this has ever happened." she suggested, gesturing to the restrained Gabrielle behind them.
Elara's mind was racing, contemplating the offer. Part of her wanted to immediately reject it, but the rational side of her knew the stakes were high. She looked from Cassie to Lotte, weighing their words.
"And if I disagree?" Elara asked, a defiant tone in her voice.
Lotte's eyebrow twitched ever so slightly, her tone remaining eerily calm. "Well, then we'll have to resort to harsher methods."
Cassie interjected, her smirk widening. "Yeah, and believe me, you do NOT want that." she added.
Brittany, to Cassie's left, conjured her life-sized scissors, splitting them into twin blades and pointing one of them at Elara. "But if you wanna play," she said, her eyes flashing with sadism, "Then hoo boy, we're gonna play!"
Elara felt a chill run down her spine at Cassie's words and Brittany's threat, understanding the gravity of what those "methods" could mean. She knew she was outnumbered and outclassed, but the idea of giving in to the enemy didn't sit well with her. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
"I... I need some time to consider," she finally replied, her voice shaky.
Cassie sighed, feigning disappointment. "Oh, boo. You're seriously going to give us the whole 'let us think about it' cliché?”
Elara tensed, her hands balling into fists. Cassie's mocking tone was really getting on her nerves now. Still, she tried to keep her cool.
"I'm just being realistic here," she retorted. "I won't just jump into a decision like this without considering the consequences."
Cassie's smile never wavered as she chuckled at Elara's response. "Heh, smart girl. A bit stubborn too though." she commented, almost impressed by the gem sprite's resilience.
Elara clenched her fists even tighter, her irritation growing with each passing second. "Stubborn? I'm just trying to protect myself and my friends. Can you blame me for that?"
Cassie tilted her head to the side, still amused by the gem sprite. "Hey, fair enough. You got some spunk. But you're outnumbered and outmatched here, babe.”
Elara scowled at being called "babe", but she couldn't deny the truth of Cassie's words. The odds were stacked heavily against her.
"I don't care," she retorted defiantly, trying to maintain an air of confidence. "I need to get some answers out of Gabrielle, and I can't let her go until she tells me everything.
Cassie just laughed at Elara's determination, her smirk never leaving her face. "You're a tough one, aren't ya?" she remarked, clearly finding amusement in the gem sprite's stubbornness.
Adeyemi, who had been quietly listening to the exchange, couldn't hold back any longer. "Enough banter already!" she interjected, her voice rising. "Stop toying with her and get on with it already!”
Cassie glanced over at Adeyemi, a wicked smile on her face. "Oh, look who decided to speak up," she said, her tone dripping with mock concern. "The old knight getting restless?"
Adeyemi's eyes narrowed, her grip on her sword tightening as she bristled at Cassie's comment. "Don't you dare call me old, you demon! I'm still more than capable of taking you on!”
Cassie chuckled at Adeyemi's threat, clearly not intimidated. "Oh, are you now? You look a bit past your prime to me. Just an old knight wanting some action."
Adeyemi felt her anger flare, her eyes narrowing even more. She removed her helmet, revealing her shimmering orange hair tied in twin braids. She appeared to be in her upper teens, despite what her voice led the others to believe.
Cassie's laughter grew as she took in Adeyemi's youthful appearance. "Oh, well now. You're not as old as you sounded," she teased, her smirk widening.
Adeyemi clenched her jaw at Cassie's comment, trying to contain her irritation. "I may look young, but I'm still a seasoned warrior! Don't underestimate me.”
Cassie held up her hands in mock surrender. "Hey, don't get all bent out of shape, little knight," she sneered. "I'm just calling it how I see it."
Elara, who was observing the exchange, couldn't help but speak up. "If I were you, I'd be careful who you call 'little', demon girl. That 'little' knight could probably knock you on your ass.”
Cassie's smirk faltered for a moment as she took in Elara's words, but she quickly regained her arrogant composure. "Ha! As if. I'd like to see her try." she retorted, her tone laced with smug certainty.
Adeyemi, now thoroughly riled up, stepped forward. "Don't tempt me! I'll show you what this little knight can do!”
