Bonnibel's voice caught in her throat as she witnessed the arrival of Seraphina in the clearing. The commanding presence of the Supreme Director of Divine Oversight Division was an undeniable force, and the cold intensity in Seraphina's gaze sent a shiver down Bonnibel's spine.
Her eyes flicked between Seraphina and Leopoldine, the realization of the situation becoming clearer. It seemed that Leopoldine's "subtle encouragement" had been anything but. And now, with Commander Seraphina's appearance, there was an undeniable tension in the air.
Seraphina's wings flutter silently as she lands gracefully near Bonnibel and Leopoldine, her gaze never leaving the two individuals.
Her voice, when she finally speaks, is a sharp blade:
"Leopoldine." Her tone carries a bite that makes it clear this is more than a simple greeting.
The curvy girl smiles sweetly, unruffled as she addresses the imposing commander. "Seraphina, darling! Such lovely timing. Have I interrupted something?”
"You’ve been violating protocol," Seraphina clipped, her voice cutting through the air like steel. “And you know exactly what you've done.”
Leopoldine only widened her grin, unrepentant. "Ohhh, I know exactly what I did, and honestly? Best show in divine history." She gestured flamboyantly to Alice and Bonnibel. “Look at them! They're practically glowing with emotional synergy!”
Bonnibel flinched as she realized just how much had been manipulated, how their bond had been nudged, shaped… even measured by Leopoldine's system.
"You used us!" she snapped. "Like pawns!"
Leopoldine raised a manicured finger playfully. "Observers, darling~ Not pawns." She tapped the side of her head with a wink. "I merely… optimized conditions for authentic connection."
Seraphina stepped forward sharply between them, her presence radiating authority.
"Enough," she commanded coldly, turning fully to Leopoldine now with narrowed eyes that sparkled dangerously beneath the canopy of light filtering down from above.
She pulled a slender golden device from beneath her coat, a Divine Restraining Key, and activated it with a swift flick of her wrist.
"By order of the Supreme Oversight Council...you are hereby suspended from active surveillance duties."
Leopoldine didn’t move, but the glint in her eye shifted slightly.
For once…
She looked intrigued instead of amused.
Leopoldine let out a soft, amused hum, long and low, as she watched the golden device activate in Seraphina’s hand. A smirk still played on her lips, but now there was something sharper beneath it: curiosity.
“Suspended?” she repeated, voice lilting like this was all just another entertaining game. “Ohhh, is that what we’re doing now? Official consequences?” She tilted her head dramatically. “And here I thought you’d just yell at me again and then go back to filing reports no one reads.”
Seraphina didn’t blink. “You tampered with emotional anchors without authorization. You manipulated bond resonance between two free-willed agents for personal amusement, and possibly worse.” Her voice turned colder still. “That’s not oversight, Leopoldine… that’s possession.”
Leopoldine rolled her eyes, but then paused as the Restraining Key pulsed brighter.
A faint shimmer wrapped around her wrists like ethereal cuffs forming from light itself.
“Oh,” she said simply, almost cheerfully, as if realizing something delightful.
“You're actually serious.”
Then came the giggle.
And then, the grin. Wide, wild, utterly unafraid.
“Then let me ask you this…” She leaned forward slightly despite the binding aura creeping up her arms.
"If I'm being suspended…"
Her eyes flicked to Alice and Bonnibel: "...does that mean my work...is finally being acknowledged?”
Bonnibel's eyes widened in disbelief as she caught the slight shift in Leopoldine's demeanor. Was she…excited about this? The thought only added to the mounting questions swirling in Bonnibel's mind.

Seraphina, however, kept her gaze fixed on Leopoldine, her expression still stern. Her fingers closed tightly around her Divine Restraining Key, as if holding onto it like a lifeline. Her voice, when it came again, was laced with a cold, calculated steel:
"Your 'work' is an anomaly," she stated firmly. "One that clearly needs to be contained.”
Leopoldine's grin widened at Seraphina's declaration. "Contained?" she echoed, seemingly unfazed by the notion. "Ah, because my 'anomalous' efforts are just so disruptive, hmm?"
She shrugged casually, the ethereal binds around her wrists still glowing. Her eyes flicked back to Bonnibel and Alice again, a smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth.
"I'm just trying to help here. The bonds were in need of a good… nudge, don't you think?”
Seraphina's grip tightened around the Divine Restraining Key as Leopoldine continued her taunting. "Your idea of 'help' is a gross violation of ethical conduct!" she snapped, voice sharp with controlled fury.
"You don't get to decide what connections should form or how they should grow! You're not some grand architect of emotion, you're a monitor, just like the rest of us!"
Leopoldine let out another soft laugh, almost pitying this time. "Oh, Seraphina… always so rigid." She tilted her head slightly, the light catching in her eyes like stars dancing across a midnight sky.
"Tell me… when was the last time you actually felt anything without reviewing someone else's report? When did you last believe in something that couldn't be measured by your little protocols?"
She took a small step forward, even as the binds resisted, and whispered:
"Maybe I'm not just monitoring fate…
Maybe I’m helping it along.”
Bonnibel felt an indignant heat rise in her chest. Leopoldine was treating this situation like a game, like some twisted, cosmic joke!
"You're playing with lives, Leopoldine! These bonds you've been tampering with, the emotions you've been exploiting… these aren't things to be tweaked!" Bonnibel felt anger boiling in the pit of her stomach. The audacity of Leopoldine, acting as if all of her meddling was for some grand, benevolent purpose… It was sickening.
"Lives?" Leopoldine echoed, her tone mocking in its incredulity. She placed a hand delicately on her chest, feigning offense. "Oh darling, please. I'd hardly call your little emotional bonds 'lives'. They're more like… guidelines, really. And as for my 'tampering'... well, I prefer to think of it as fine-tuning. Fate does appreciate precision, you know."
Her eyes glittered as she glanced at Bonnibel, then at Alice. She almost seemed... relishing in Seraphina and Bonnibel's anger.
Bonnibel's fists clenched as she held back the urge to snap at Leopoldine's flippant response. She wanted to scream, to tell her just how wrong she was,
But before Bonnibel could find her voice, Seraphina cut in, her words like steel.
"Fine-tuning?" Seraphina repeated. "You think you're helping fate, do you? That you understand the nuance and the subtlety of emotional bonds? You're nothing but a puppeteer playing with lives for your own entertainment!”
Leopoldine's smirk wavered ever so slightly as Seraphina's words hit home. She tried to maintain her nonchalant demeanor.
"Oh, I assure you, dear Seraphina, there's a method to my madness," she replied, waving a hand dismissively. "I understand bonds…better than you ever could. I see the potential where you see only numbers. I see the possibilities… while you're still lost in your little rule book.”
Seraphina didn’t flinch. Her expression remained icy, unreadable, her resolve solidified with every word Leopoldine spoke.
"And that," she said, voice low and razor-edged, "is precisely why you’re dangerous."
She raised the Divine Restraining Key higher, its golden light pulsing in rhythm with her will.
"You don't see bonds. You twist them. You don't honor free will, you engineer outcomes like a clockmaker adjusting gears." She took a step forward, her presence looming over Leopoldine despite the other woman's defiant posture.
"This isn't about potential. It’s about consent."
The air around them thickened, gravity itself seemed to shift as the key began emitting a resonant hum.
"By divine statute 7-Alpha of the Ethereal Oversight Accord… I am placing you under administrative custody until further review by the High Council."
The bindings flared brighter now, threads of luminous energy weaving tighter around Leopoldine’s arms and torso, restricting movement without violence… but without mercy either.
"You are not above order," Seraphina said coldly. "And no matter how gifted you believe yourself to be in reading hearts... you do not get to play god.”
A hush fell on the clearing at Leopoldine's words, a stark tension filling the air. Bonnibel watched warily as the binds shimmered with barely restrained power, still holding Leopoldine in their grasp.
Seraphina's eyes gleamed dangerously in the dim light.
"Then what, precisely, are you doing?" she demanded.
Leopoldine's smile stretched wider, almost manic. "Oh, I'm merely observing, darling," she said sweetly. "Observing...and nudging. Always nudging.”
"Nudging?" Seraphina repeated, her voice icy. "More like interfering. Your 'nudges' have consequences you can't predict, consequences that could destabilize entire destinies!"
Leopoldine shrugged, unbothered by the accusation. "Destiny needs a little chaos now and then, dear Seraphina. Sometimes the path is a bit too…boring."
Seraphina glowered. "Chaos is not yours to distribute. You've broken so many protocols, do you even understand the damage your actions could cause? I shall swiftly lie upon you divine retribution.”
Leopoldine shrugged again, a nonchalant gesture that only seemed to rouse Seraphina's fury even more.
"Damage?" she echoed, the word tinged with amusement. "My actions are merely the wind shifting the river's course. Nothing broken, just... redirected. And as for retribution..."
Leopoldine turned her back on Seraphina, spanking her rear as she looked over her shoulder. "...I'm all for a little 'retribution'~"
If looks could kill, Leopoldine would have been disintegrated a dozen times over. Bonnibel watched in disbelief as Leopoldine had the audacity to taunt Seraphina.
Seraphina's eyes flared with barely contained fury as Leopoldine's hand casually struck her rear. It was as if Leopoldine was deliberately trying to push her buttons… and it was working.
Seraphina bit back a sharp retort but the veins in her temples throbbed with anger.
She took a deep breath, visibly trying to maintain her cool.
Finally, after a tense moment of silence, Seraphina's voice cut through the crackling tension like a knife.
"Enough," she uttered coldly. "Leopoldine, you're coming with me. The High Council will decide your fate."
The Divine Restraining Key in her hand began pulsing brighter—an unspoken threat hanging in the air. Seraphina took a step in Leopoldine's direction, clearly intent on completing her mission to remove her from duty.
