Chapter 35

“N’terrin should be ready for us, whenever we’re done here,” Delilah said as she joined him. Peter had waited for her at the designated time at the puddle room, the final room of the first floor of the battle dungeon. Pools of water filled criss-crossed most of the level, complete with secret tunnels from various pools. A great concept that he had as of yet not really put into much use.

It was easy enough to get to the room since when he moved through the dungeon core. He could appear at any entrance or exit. It was the largest open room other than the large open lava chambers of the sixth through tenth floors. Except it was far more comfortable here. A good place to summon new units and potentially test their capabilities undisturbed. It was also Peter’s favorite place to swim.

“I hope today’s summon is a success. Khan is only getting more pushy about us using the ‘User chose card’ with each attempt,” Delilah said as she watched him bring up the interface.

“No kiddin’, I feel like we are burning through a bunch of top tier type cards,” Peter said, actually feeling skeptical of their chances today. Getting the S (-) tier holy armor dragon on only their third try had proved more difficult to duplicate than he had hoped despite the fact that their latest four attempts had all been completed with double powerful type cards.

The holy armor dragon was not exactly what Peter had wanted. The S tier and its B tier one offs were all capable of healing. Their first special ability was a self heal aura ability making them difficult to kill since they already had a S rank defense with their golden armor. The aura would heal the dragons quite quickly, but even friendly units close by would heal to some extent.

The second special ability was more in line with what Peter had wanted. They were able to consolidate their aura and send it to another unit to heal it very quickly, but of course this drained their holy power, which was limited, far more quickly.

Were they capable healers like Peter had wanted? Yes… but honestly with their high defense and self healing aura they were almost better to use as tanks, or to disperse among his forces to cover them with their aura. Still it was good enough for Peter to shift his attention to getting another S tier.

There was a second reason why he wanted another S tier versus the one he had just gotten. The first maelstrom for the holy armor dragon only cost 6.4 million essence. Since the cost for a first S tier maelstrom could fall anywhere from 5 to 10 million essence, the holy armor dragon was on the lower end. It seemed like kind of a waste to use his user choice card to create a free maelstrom for something that was expensive, but on the lower end for what he would get.

Still Khan had been pushing for him to go ahead and use it. Every week they waited meant 2 less B tiers that would be summoned. Peter was conflicted himself since getting another S tier had proven more difficult than he had hoped. At first he had been shooting for a S tier ghost dragon that would be able to go into the alternate dimension. The result had been 7 ghost dragon variants. All were mid to top A tiers, but still he was frustrated. Now that the S tier barrier had been breached once, lesser elites just did not have the same ‘oomf’

For the last four attempts and now, he just hoped for another S tier period, choosing to use two of the powerful type cards. The only downside was that there were some abyss or now void options that he would not be able to go with due to the nature of how he had acquired the type cards. Already on two attempts he had picked a slightly weaker choice for that reason. Of the four attempts he had gotten two more A tier dragons capable of going to the alternate dimension giving him 9 in total. It proved there was more to the Abyss card besides its ability to tier up. Clearly better than Elyra’s phase type. The other two would make powerful additions to the physical realm forces.

His efforts were not exactly wasted. Today would mark 1.5 million essence being relegated to summoning new elites since the congregation. He already had 14 new elites including one S tier. It was just disappointing that the tier S units were not coming as easily as he might have hoped, and that he was eating up a lot of original cards, although he was receiving plenty of stock options in turn. He still had access to the ghost type with 42 cards that he could buy. He might only have 29 original dragon cards left, but he already had 50 A tier stock options. For abyss he still had 36 originals, and was already at 19 stock options.

Today however he was going to try his first void card along with the dragon and design. Like abyss, the void type cards had a decent chance of getting a unit with access to the alternate dimension. However, also like an abyss, Peter could not exactly flaunt that he even had the type card.

“Here it goes,” Peter said, hitting the synchronization button on his interface. He chose the normal one choice, one increase option. The three options popped up on his interface. Delilah leaned in close to get a better look. The tension and frustration he had felt over the last few weeks eased away as he looked at his options. All the options would be good, but one was a S tier without even using an increase, which was already a step beyond the holy armor dragon. The fact that it was rank S and not S(-) made it another step beyond.

  Void bringer dragon A (+): ATT: A, DEF: A, SPE: S (-)

  Armageddon Dragon S: ATT: S, DEF: S, SPE: S

  Dimensional Being A (+): ATT: A (-), DEF: A, SPE: S (+)

The Armageddon dragon was the obvious choice. Still Peter could not help but also look longingly at the other two choices . The void bringer dragon had void in the name so he would have normally not considered it anyways, but it was a strong unit in its own right. The dimensional being was the first option he had ever seen with a S (+) rank in an attribute. He had seen plenty of S tier attributes in his summons over the last weeks, but nothing that high. With increases he could potentially easily bring it to SS tier. Still with his design increase and a support increase he might get there anyways with the Armageddon dragon. There was nothing preventing him from increasing something by 2 ranks.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Peter only paused to note down their specifics before making the obvious choice. He was then presented with the option on what to increase. He quickly used an increase support card doubling that option, before he paused to consider what he should use the two increases on. He honestly had no indication on what he should increase since he could not see the details of the unit.

The picture showed a large winged dragon whose head resembled a horny lizard with spikes jutting off the sides and top. The top of the head and back as well as the top of the legs were jet black, but the color shifted to a brown and then continued to dilute leaving a dirty yellow belly, under legs, tail, and chin. Of course the dragon had sharp white teeth similar to most other dragons he had seen.

“What do you think?” Peter posed.

“Well it is hard to say without knowing what the special ability is. If it is an ability that allows it to enter the alternate dimension than increasing it might not add much. My ability is A (-) and it is already more than needed. If we increased defense the dragon might become practically unkillable by dungeons at our level. Then again the ability could be something really powerful, or increasing attack might make it a killing machine. Either way I think we should double up on whatever you decide,” Delilah said shrugging.

Peter turned his gaze back to the screen. It was not just about the S tier unit itself, he really needed to consider what the one offs or maelstrom B tiers would be capable of since almost more important than the S tier were the B tiers that he would have armies of. He could potentially have some powerful tanks or he could increase their destructive prowess.

In the end, Peter decided to make his decision completely based on the name. Something deemed with the moniker armageddon should be better at ending things than tanking attacks, or so he thought. He somehow doubted that putting them in attack likely increasing the unit's physical traits, would get it to those levels of destruction. Peter put both increases on special. It was as always a bit of a gamble.

Armageddon Dragon S(+): ATT: S, DEF: S, SPE: SS

He had bumped the unit's rank up to S (+) and gotten a double S tier special attribute. The interface had completely vindicated his decision… That was until he read what the ability actually was, Void beam… Hopefully, that would not create problems. Still it was not like Void was a blacklisted core, and it was entirely possible he could end up with such an ability without even using a void type card. This unit was sure not to escape notice, better if they thought he had just gotten lucky. Peter would love to be able to hold the dragon in reserve as a trump card and not even use it in upcoming battles, but he highly doubted that he was at that level.

The dragon appeared, it was the size of a hay barn. Its wings unfurled as if the dragon was presenting itself to its new master. Peter instructed the Armageddon dragon to perform its void blast against a far earthen column. A white beam with black flakes shot out slamming into the column. The stone column likely had a diameter of about 10 feet, or it had. It had basically ceased to exist. Not that it would not reconstitute itself eventually.

“Damn,” Peter exclaimed, when the dust settled. Not only had it destroyed the column, but it had continued on leaving a crater on the back wall.

“How do we even begin to plan to defend against attacks of that caliber,” Delilah said. She was clearly as shocked as he was. Glenda’s star fall attack was powerful, but could not get near this level even when she focused it into a single blast. And she had used that move to kill a good hundred units all at once.

Peter quickly found the dragon under his unit tab on his interface. Opening it he could see more specifics on the units. The unit had an energy like bar for void energy. Peter was dismayed to see that the bar was nearly a third of the way depleted. The attack was powerful, but it was not something that could be used for long, although the bar was replenishing at a visible rate. The dragon would likely recover its energy completely in a number of minutes. An attack like that every few minutes did not seem too bad, but the rate would decrease as the unit became more weary. As a newly summoned unit it was in peak condition, so unless he found a way to augment the recovery or its power later, this was already the best case.

Peter flipped to his home tab checking his essence. He almost fist pumped seeing that he had more than 10,000 essence in reserve, but he played it cool. He could do a victory dance later. Peter quickly summoned A B tier one off of the Armageddon dragon.

The result was a smaller dragon perhaps a quarter of the original size. That being said the B tier dragon was still the size of a decent sized room if it curled itself up. It was extremely intimidating for a unit at its tier. All that being said after a few tests with the beast, Peter could not help but feel let down. The B tier’s void beam was at the A tier, but it likely would not one shot most A tiers like he had hoped.

The SS attribute attack was seemingly unstoppable, the A tier version however would be well within most dungeon’s expectations. Still it was a very powerful attack for a B tier unit to have. A B tier unit that did not look like it even needed it. The smaller dragon looked quite dangerous for its tier even without the ability.

Peter once again felt vindicated when he noticed the cost for a maelstrom of the unit. It was maxed out right at 10 million essence. Quite an expenditure since at the current 38,000 daily essence he only anticipated collecting over 16 million this year. Luckily he had the user chose card, which he felt no issue using immediately. It was day 38 of year 4, so he should get at least 109 B tier dragons by the next congregation since it was just under 55 weeks away.

For the first time he almost hoped they ran into Khan on the way to see N’terrin. The old dark elf. Which of course meant that the old elf was nowhere to be found when they actually did leave. The guy had some sort of sixth sense catching Peter more than half the time in transit. Apparently the sense warded him off today, when Peter was ready to shove that his decision to wait had been the right one right into his wrinkly face.
