Chapter 46

Peter had gotten what he needed, now he wanted to shoot for something he really wanted, another S tier. He still had 1.5 million essence to work with. It meant he had 15 shots as long as he used original cards along with the design cards he would need to buy.

“It might be wise to try and get something other than a S tier dragon. The nightshade core, eh… Helen, had a point,” Delilah said suggestively.

Peter sighed. The dragon, void, and abyss type cards gave him his best chance at getting a S tier unit, but he had to be careful of his use of the latter two since he had gotten them from a black listed cores. That and dragons were just cool and useful units, always strong for their tier. If the option had been available and it did not mean turning into an oversized lizard he might have chosen it, himself.

“Fine, but there is something I’ve always wanted to try,” Peter said looking at his 3 most powerful card types. He had combined two of them along with his design card several times, but he had not combined all of them. It would mean he would not get the increase and choice options given by his design card, but surely the 3 powerful cards should almost guarantee a S tier. It just might be a unit he might have to hide a way for a while.

“Muhahahaha,” Peter did his best impression of a doctor Frankenstein and mad scientist laugh. Delilah just watched, one eyebrow raised and her lips curled in an expression of distaste.

  Blink Dragon (Dragon, Void, Abyss) A (+): ATT: A (-), DEF: A (+), SPE: S (-), SPE: A

The result was mixed. On a high note the unit did not obviously hint at the components that had gone into it other than dragon. It also sounded like it would be an alternate dimension player. Which he sorely needed. Right now he just had the spectral armor and the phantasm dragon, left. The low note that it would likely be near impossible to bring this guy up to S tier even with a support card increase, which he quickly used on the blink dragons special attribute that was already in the S tier. It ranked up to S, but as expected the dragon remained an overly strong A tier. So much for some super powerful monster, Peter thought.

However after the blink dragon’s test run, Peter was more than satisfied. The A tier special attribute was a dimensional ability. It could cross through even quicker than Delilah, who gave him a ‘you were saying’ expression as they witnessed the dragon blink in and out. That being said, the S tier ranked ability was even more valuable at least for Peter’s dungeon right now.

It was a transport ability, the first with the ability in his dungeon, but it did not stop there. The ability could even be used for transport inside the alternate dimension, which was exceedingly rare. This thing could criss-cross the battlefield going in and out. However, the dragon did have its downsides. Its black body was only the size of a horse with its wingspan just over 15 feet. Its defense attribute was A (+), but it was likely due to its speed. A successful hit from even a strong B tier unit might be enough to bring it down.

The C tier one off Peter soon summoned was even smaller, perhaps the size of a small pony with a wingspan of around 10 feet. It was still exceedingly quick, and its dimensional and transport abilities still functioned. However whereas the original A tier could blink instantly, the C tier version had lights that started flickering around them for a second as it charged up the power to use it. The transporting inside the alternate dimension was only enough to move them a few hundred feet. Outside they were not able to transport more than a few thousand feet or about half the floor length.

“Nightlight, will not be able to wait to get her hands on them,” Delilah said with a scowl. Peter nodded in agreement. Glenda had not even begun to crack into transportation magic. “So what now,” she followed up.

Peter didn’t respond, instead he looked through his options. The joy from his successes already took a back seat to the potential of what he might get next. He had nearly 30 different original type cards, and he only needed to be careful with his use of 3 of the types. Peter’s eyes eventually settled on the five new beast type cards he had acquired from Fellette and… Garrett’s faction.

Peter signed. Garrett had lost. The pachyderm core was now the senior core in the faction. The mantis core had exhibited why Peter should not be confident of fighting Agatha the long leg spider in the upcoming congregation. They had attacked Garrett with seemingly unending numbers, and individually the units were not necessarily weak.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Peter decided to use up his remaining tiger type originals in honor of the fallen core. He had not interacted nearly as much with him as he had with Fellette and Emma, but the guy had been more than nice in their interactions. Besides, Delilah had been feeling down. What better way to cheer her up than to replace the white out tiger she had used for a mount in her first battle.

Peter ended up continuing with the beast theme using up doublifications and other type cards saving his essence. He already had two more units he wanted maelstroms from.

  Rage Tiger (Tiger, Predator) A: ATT: A (+), DEF: A (-), SPE: A (-)

  Celestial Tiger (Tiger, Cosmic) A(-):ATT: A (-), DEF: A (-), SPE: A

  Thin hide Bear (Bear, Predator) A: ATT: S (-), DEF: B (-), SPE: A

  Razor ridge Bear (Bear, Predator) A (+): ATT: A (+), DEF: A (+), SPE: A (+)

  Ripper mut (Canine, Predator) A (-): ATT: A (-), DEF: A (-), SPE: A (-)

  Familiar pup (Canine, Magic) A (-): ATT: B (+), DEF: A (-), SPE: A

  Rust Bull (Bull, Iron) A: ATT: A (-), DEF: A (-), SPE: A (+)

Metal ring bull (Bull, Iron) A: ATT: A (+), DEF: A, SPE: A

  Half off Hippo (Pachyderm, Bronze) A : ATT: A (-), DEF: A (+), SPE: A

  Treasure Tapir (Pachyderm, Bronze) B (+): ATT: B (+), DEF: B (-), SPE: A (-)

  Tempest fowl (Crow, Air) A (-): ATT: A (-), DEF: A (-), SPE: A (-)

  Crow Murder (Crow, Nightshade) A: ATT: A, DEF: A (-), SPE: A(+), SPE: A (-)

Not getting an S tier was hardly a surprise, but there were quite a few interesting units. He could see immediately that the two pachyderm units would be near the top in terms of value. The Treasure Tapir was only a B tier. It was clear that it would be an auxiliary unit, that Peter would relegate to the mine to help find resources.

The half off hippo had the greatest defense of any unit he had ever summoned. The hippo was only A rank, but the combination between its A (+) defense and its special attribute would make it incredibly difficult to kill. The special attribute decreased almost all incoming attacks, physical or magical by at least half, at least up to its special attribute’s rank of A. Even a S tier attack would be sharply reduced. Since the hippos defense was already at the peak of A tier it would be bloody hard to kill. The one offs of the elite hippo actually had a different name, one quarter off hippos. It was a pretty uncommon thing for one offs to have a different name compared to the original they were based off of, but it made since in this case. Their ability only reduced incoming attacks by a quarter. Not as good as the original, but with their C (+) defense they could probably tank attacks up to the B tier level.

Peter had been hoping for some type of war elephants, but he was satisfied with what he had received. Peter had tough units to stock his first few water based floors on.

Perhaps more valuable than even the pachyderms was the familiar pup. The unit was as weak as an A tier could be, but it was a unit that could be combined with another mage unit. The familiar pup once combined would become unkillable as long as its master was still alive, although it would take a long time to reconstitute if killed. The familiar itself could throw out B tier spells to aid its master. That was of some use, but its main purpose was to augment its master.

Peter had the perfect unit to combine it with. Every witch needed a familiar. Glenda, the white witch unit, already had a special magic attribute of S (-). The familiar would bump it up slightly, perhaps enough to be S rank, but of far more use was its ability to increase its masters manna capacity and manna regeneration rate. The master could even use the familiar’s magic making the unit basically a rechargeable battery.

Delilah grumbled that the nightlight got an upgrade, until Peter gave her her own present. The celestial tiger A (-) was by no means a powerhouse, but despite not being a mage unit its special ability allowed it to bring up a rainbow colored magic shield. It should be able to provide some protection for Delilah at least in the physical realm since it could not cross over to the other dimension. Hopefully in the future, they could find or make an item capable of taking over units. Then she would be able to use it regardless.

Overall Peter was quite happy with the 12 beast summons. No S tiers but there were some strange abilities and unit mechanics he had never seen or even heard about. The murder crow (A) was not too impressive. It had poison dripped talons due to the nightshade card, but its other special ability allowed it to separate into a literal murder of smaller crows. The smaller crows could then in turn swarm across the field. The murder crow only needed 20% to survive in order for it to be able to reconstitute itself, although it would be in a severely weakened state.

Which of course Peter would try to exploit if he could. If 20% of the crows retreated to somewhere safe then he could freely use the power without worry of losing the A tier unit. The one offs of the murder crow dropped that second ability and just had poison on their talons. They were fairly weak in most regards for a C tier, so Peter had no intention of making a maelstrom for the original.

Done with summoning units for now, Peter left all of the new summons other than the familiar pup and Michael with Delilah. She would deal with figuring out where they needed to be. He would personally take the familiar to Glenda as well as the vigil master. Glenda could contract with the familiar, and get the Vigil master situated.
