Chapter 54

The A rank ritual Summoner fairy appeared with a pop. The fairy was maybe 3 or 4 inches tall. He was basically a tan elf with four wings. He wore a greek single shoulder strap tunic with a gold medallion on his chest. The edge of the tunic flared out around the knees. The guy emanated a blue glow that was a perfect sphere when he was not moving, but it contorted trailing behind him if he moved. The fairy apparently could not shut its aura off unless he died.

Getting a guy fairy was a bit of a surprise. He realized he had been somewhat hoping for something cute. Something this miniature Greek god with wings was not. Peter quickly moved past it to examine its capabilities.

Ritual summoning was a time consuming process, so Peter quickly summoned a C tier one off so that they could test both of their capabilities themselves. The C tier was more of what he had expected. She looked like a cute miniature child with wings. Which might not be a good thing since Peter might find it difficult to send something that cute or childlike into battle.

The summoning was similar to the magic item that one of Tombstone’s units had used. They opened a tear into some dimension that they could choose. The unit however was random. The fairy’s could only summon 1 unit from their tier at a time, through a 10 minute ritual. They would then have to continually feed magic to keep the summon in the realm.

For the A tier male fairy it was hardly an issue. He could summon A tier after A tier and keep them in the realm for a while. The C tier however would only be able to keep a unit of its tier in the realm for a short period of time. Less than a minute was not a lot of time to work with, and that was in optimal conditions. It made his idea of summoning 10,000 C tier ritual summoners and having them create 10,000 unit disposable armies wave after wave a lot more difficult to pull off. It was possible, Peter having used the increase to specifically increase the manna capacity of the original was the only reason they could summon something of the C tier at all.

The ritual summoners could also summon below their tier. The ritual was only 1 minute and they could maintain up to 4 in the realm. Once again the male fairy had longevity in the practice. Which Peter took advantage of, since it took the female C tier an hour to even recover from the previous summoning. Later on, he female C tier was able to keep a single D tier in the realm for nearly 18 minutes. Technically she could summon up to 4 D tiers, but the time she could keep them in the realm would only decrease proportionately.

Peter monitored as the C tier recovered its manna over 10 minutes, and then projected out. It was clear that its recovery was at least twice as long as it had been the first time. Once more the units did not recover manna at all while a unit was summoned. Both things that seemed to indicate that the wave after wave idea would not be attainable. Peter had pictured something like the old donkey kong game where it repeatedly threw barrels down the way while being untouchable, but it appeared the summoners would run out of juice quite quickly.

Peter was not able to determine if the male fairy was the same without more time experimenting, but it would likely be the case. The unit would just be too broken otherwise. Still there was a way to make use of them. The A tier could still prove far more useful than a weak S tier in an extended battle. As far as the C tiers, summoning other C tiers was not practical, but a several thousand D tiers could be useful on occasion.

Peter contemplated the possibility of thousands of fairy keeping up a continual wave of D tiers, but dismissed the idea. Eventually the opponent would figure it out and just push through them. The fairies could not move once the ritual was started, nor could they stop it without some severe backlash or even summoning something that would then target them depending on how far in the ritual they had gotten. He would have to think on how best to use them.

Peter yawned heavily. It was quite late since testing the fairies had taken them deep into the night. However he was eager to carry on, and Delilah with her increased stamina still looked good to go. While determining the fairies capabilities, Peter had long ago decided to convert the second ‘User chose card’ over as well.

S tier Dream type card (10:00)

Peter blinked as he read the specifics. Dream had not immediately sounded dominant at first glance, but the thing in parenthesis under the description was ‘restricted type’. The chance should have been only 40% with his second use of the Random type card, but he had gotten lucky. However, once again the timer had appeared so he was working against the clock. He examined the card type more closely.

The dream type was clearly a concept type, but unlike his dragon, void, abyss, or diamond options it did not give a good chance at tiering up. Most of the restricted cards did. The ones that did not however were supposedly good in their own way. The concept dream certainly sounded interesting. Off hand he could think of a lot of interesting implications, however once again he was on the clock. He decided to use one of Gabriel's Fallen type cards with his own design card.

  Reality Bender S: ATT: S, DEF: S(-), SPE: S, SPE: S

  Nightmarish creation S: ATT: S(-), DEF: S (-), SPE: S (+), SPE: S

  Sleep Weaver S: ATT: S(-), DEF: S, SPE: S (-), SPE: S

Uhh… Peter had been expecting the term nightmare to be derived from dream and the fallen card, which he got with one of the results, but he had honestly been picturing some midnight stallion. Honestly what he had been aiming for. Perhaps he should have used the dream with that equestrian card he had been sitting on for some time.

The reality bender looked like a humanoid with a burlap sac over its head. The rest of the form was cloaked like some anime villain, but it did have two arms and two legs, so was clearly a humanoid. The Nightmarish creation was perhaps some sort of tar-like slime thing although the pictures showed it having some odd and seemingly random appendages also attached. One of them looked like a beast claw.

Sleep Weaver was a spider. It was a black spider sitting in its web. Presumably it was a large beast, but as always there were no additional references. For all he knew it was the size of one of the fairies and had the miniature status.

Delilah was equally flabbergasted from the three bizarre choices. “I can only imagine that the reality bender has some sort of exotic power, but my vote is for the nightmarish creation” Delilah said, shrugging.

Peter focused on his options. All three of them had 2 special attributes. That was clearly more than a coincidence. Peter had not really been keeping track, but if he was to guess he felt he might only see a unit with 2 special attributes once every 30 choice options that he saw thanks to his type card. He expected that most card types only got a double special attribute unit 5% of the time, so getting 3 choices with the special attribute at once was clearly something specific to the dream card type.

Right away Peter crossed the spider out of consideration. The other choices just seemed better, or perhaps he just was not ready to have a bunch of spiders running around when there were not a lot of places to store them. He definitely would not let them be on the tenth floor with the dark and moon elf villages, and the 5 lava based floors did not seem likely either.

The Nightmarish creation… if it was a slime, it would be a powerful addition, as would its one offs. Then again the reality bender also sounded pretty sweet although he could only speculate what it could do. The reality bender was another humanoid, Perhaps it could research another area. Peter was totally stumped. Still he had to decide.

Eventually Peter elected to go with the nightmarish creation. He had already chosen one thing based on adding capabilities to his dungeon. The reality bender, as a humanoid, could likely be killed quite easily, so far Peter had only one slime type unit, the C (+) rank malleable iron. It had been quite capable for its tier, and had even survived another full battle where B and A ranks were reigning supreme. All that, and the nightmarish creation just looked like a killer.

Peter was then forced to consider how he would use his increases. He had the rare tier up increase which should guarantee a tier up to SS as long as he did not use it for the S (-) rank attributes. Peter threw his design card increase into defense. He frowned, when the defense attribute stayed at S(-). It had not increased a rank. The unit would still be more difficult to kill, but at least not a rank worth.

As far as the tier up increases, Peter could not help but to throw it into the S (+) attribute. It might only be something like 10%, but it had a chance of being brought all the way up to SSS. It was not to be, but it had gotten a full tier up. At SS (+) rank it surpassed Armageddon's special attribute, so he was breaking new ground.

  Nightmarish creation S(+): ATT: S(-), DEF: S (-), SPE: SS (+), SPE: S

A pool of black tar appeared before him. Unlike the last few units, it took Peter less than a minute to figure out the capabilities of his new elite. The SS (+) special attribute was associated with the sludge’s main ability, which was shaping. The black goo could be as viscous as tar, but could also shift to make its entire body or just a portion as hard as steel. Apparently it did this by condensing its mass to increase its density. The whole pool could become eight feet tall and as tough as diamond, but the nightmarish creation did not seem like the type of unit that would fight like this. It had a more unconventional fighting style, which would likely make it difficult to kill and difficult to deal with.

Peter could not witness the second ability, but the nightmarish creation could incorporate dead biological components into itself. Peter was not quite sure how useful this would be. He would just have to leave it to his new slime. It should know how to use it effectively.

Peter summoned a B tier one off. The weaker slime was still fairly big although half the size. Interestingly enough, the B tier kept both special abilities. This was only the third time Peter had seen that. Typically the 2 tier weaker version would drop one of the special abilities like the earth trotter dryad. The only other one offs that had kept both abilities were the B tiers from his holy armour dragon and then the C tier blink dragons. He would have expected it to be based off of tier, but the S tier guardian spirit one offs had lost the ability to survive the loss of their chosen ability among a handful of others such as the murder crow. Game balance? It did not matter.

Peter yawned again. He was exhausted. He was done for the night. He could summon some new A tiers tomorrow. With 5 million essence to burn, it could easily be an all day affair if he wanted, although he would probably not go that far. He had no way of knowing that he would be summoning them far sooner than that…
