Chapter 13

The area at the other side of the door was a wide-open square-shaped chamber with a tall ceiling, one that’s too dark for Miri to see any higher. Additionally, there were a massive amount of spider webs and black chitin pieces all around the floors and walls and she could hear some strange clicking and tapping noise echoing through the chamber. Miri spotted the various signs around her and could deduce with a fair amount of certainty as to what this boss enemy was going to be.

“Shit! Please don’t tell me it’s a giant scorpider,” Miri said with an exasperated groan. “I fucking hate giant scorpiders.”

Right as she said that, a large creature descended from the ceiling to try to body-slam the redheaded mage, which she barely avoided by dodge-rolling out of the way. The scorpider was exactly what you would have expected if you dissected and analyzed its name: scorpider, a hybrid of a scorpion and a spider. It had the pincers and stinger tail of a scorpion combined with the thick, creepy legs of a spider. While the scorpion parts of it were armored with a black, chitin-like exoskeleton, the legs were hairy like that of a tarantula.

  Giant Scorpider

  Level: 2

  HP: 25/25

Overall it was a pretty ugly creature, one that not even its mother could love. When Miri first encountered this creature in-game, she wondered what the origin of this creature was. She tried checking the game’s bestiary to find some answers, but was left unsatisfied as it only mentioned its hunting habits, which involved stinging its prey with its paralysis poison before encasing it in silk to be eaten later.

With no satisfying answer in sight, Miri had come up with a theory as to the creature’s origin just for the fun of it. And it all started when a scorpion and a spider loves each other very much—

The scorpider thrust one of its pincers at her, which she managed to evade with a dodge roll. Miri had to remind herself not to get too distracted. With staff held firmly in hand, she began channeling her mana into one of her spells.

“Meteor Impact!” she called out as she performed the spell, causing a purple magic circle to form above the scorpider and drop a large, rocky meteor that came crashing down onto the creature, damaging it greatly. Technically, it’s not necessary for someone to call out an attack’s name while they’re casting it. But Miri thought it was cool, so she did it anyway.

After making an attempt to recover from that meteor attack, the scorpider decided to change tactics by firing a blast of silk through its stinger, catching Miri in its web and immobilizing her in the process. Miri tried ripping away at the silk to try to get out of the web, but there was simply too much silk to work through and she’s not nearly strong enough to rip through them all.

Realizing this, she decided to switch to an alternative tactic by unleashing a series of Crescent Arcs to cut through the silk. The magical projectile cut through the web like a hot knife through butter, allowing her to escape. However, right before she was about to get out of the web, the scorpider thrust its tail stinger right towards her, stabbing her right in the shoulder.
