Ch 22: A Political Party - Shade Tree Society Charter

The Charter of The Shade Tree Society (Political Party)

This organization shall be named The Shade Tree Society.

Founding members shall be Danielle Falconer, Kenneth Abel, Peter Agnelli, George Baier, Lauren Benbow, John Jokullson, Gideon Kemp, Arabella Klein, Rillian Levine, Lucy London, Zephyr McPherson, Tallulah Rivera, Candice Sandoval, and Sarah Wheatley.

Membership levels shall consist of several ranks. The top rank shall be “Organizing Member" formally or “Organizer” for short. The group of members with this rank shall be referred to as the Society Organizers’ Council (or the Council for short). The founding members shall gain this rank at incorporation of the Shade Tree Society.

Below the Council shall be the rank of Proven Member.

Below the rank of Proven Member shall be the rank of Welcome Member. New members shall be added at this rank.

The lowest rank shall be Probationary Member. Probationary members are not considered to be in good standing with the organization.

In any vote regarding the status of a single member, that member shall not be required nor allowed to vote.

Any member in good standing who breaks a rule shall be demoted to Probationary Member.

Any Probationary Member who breaks a rule shall be ejected from the Shade Tree Society. The Council shall be informed of any change in standing due to rule breaking.

Welcome Members may be added to the Shade Tree Society by a majority vote of the Organizing Members or of the Proven Members.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Promoting a member requires a majority vote of all members of higher rank.

Demoting a member requires a majority vote of members with Proven or higher rank.

A member may be ejected from the Shade Tree Society by a majority vote of members with Proven or higher rank.

A member may leave the Shade Tree Society by informing the council of their intent to exit.

Organizing members may be members of hunting parties or other organizations, System-recognized or otherwise; however, they may not be members of other political parties. Failing to mention other political party memberships before promotion, or joining other political parties after promotion, shall result in demotion to Probationary Member; they must rectify the situation and be re-promoted according to the normal promotion rules.

Organizing members may add rules by a majority vote of the Organizing Council.

Organizing Council members may remove rules that are not part of the original charter by majority vote of the council.

Charter rules may be amended by a majority vote of the Organizing Council and a separate majority vote of all other members in good standing, both of which must pass to ratify the amendment.

Members may not physically attack other members in good standing, except with prior consent (as in the case of consent to spar for training, for example).

Members may not use hostile Skills on other members in good standing, except with prior consent (as in the case of consent to spar for training, for example).

Members will make reasonable efforts to protect the life and health of other members, so long as their own life or health is not put at risk by doing so.

The Organizing Council may assign tasks to members, relating to the aid of other members or to civic preparedness, and assignees must make reasonable efforts to complete such assignments so long as their own life or health is not put at risk of doing so. Individual Organizers do not carry this authority.

The Organizing Council shall not assign more than one Society task simultaneously to the same Society member. If a task requires more than one person to complete, the Organizing Council shall duly assign it to all persons required so that this rule may not be circumvented. When the council assigns a task to a person or people who are members of a hunting party, they shall give preference to members of the same hunting party in choosing additional assignees.

The Organizing Council may not assign Society members to vote a certain way or to campaign for a certain candidate in an election. In the event the Society is sponsoring a candidate, the Organizing Council may request but not require the assistance of other Society members.

Members can appeal to have council assignments revoked by appealing to a vote of the council or a vote of all Proven members.
