Book One Afterword

First I wanted to take some time and say thank you to each and every one of the people who have read up to this point. I am truly humbled by the number of people who have enjoyed my story so far, and it's frankly kind of terrifying to someone as generally anxious as I am that so many eyes are on my work. However I've been generally blown away by the positive reception I've received and you all have genuinely been so lovely to write for. I hope to continue to meet your expectations, and occasional exceed them whenever possible.

Now on to my thoughts on Book 1.

There are definitely some rough spots that I've been working on in the edit, but overall I'm happy and proud of what I've made. The first few arcs came out pretty much exactly as I wanted, and even the deviations were fun and interesting.

My main issue is with the ending.

Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.

I had originally planned for the story to end much closer to the death of the Bloom. With the death of the demon being the big climax for the end of Book 1.

But the story I planned wasn't the story I wound up writing.

It didn't feel right for Willow's first story to end with a big climactic battle. Instead I realized I wanted it to end with her helping to heal the damage from the conflict, as that felt more in line with the story I was telling.

However as a result of my poor planning it doesn't quite convey the same oomph that I wanted, and it feels like I wasted a climactic moment and then the story meandered on for a bit to the proper conclusion. It's a frustrating thing, and while I can definitely massage things in the final edit I'm not confident I can fix the structural issue that caused it.

We live and learn, and hopefully I've outlined book 2 far better in that regard. I now know what story I'm telling, and I hope it's one all of you continue to enjoy.

Thank you again for reading, and I hope to see you all after a week when posting resumes.

May you have a wonderful day/night!
