Chapter 63: The Vault Awakens

  Chapter 63: The Vault Awakens

Kaelar’s boots carried him deeper into the vessel, each step landing with a hollow clang swallowed by the vast, uncanny silence.

The air didn’t feel like air, it felt like memory. Heavy. Dense. As if forgotten centuries pressed against his chest with every breath.

Glyphs crawled along the walls, pulsing in slow, deliberate rhythm. His helmet scanner flickered, useless. The symbols weren’t static.

  They moved.

  Shifted.

  Reacted.

Behind him, CAPRA manifested in a swirling flicker of light, its usual theatrics muted. Its voice, too, was softer, reverent.

"The patterns aren’t random," CAPRA murmured. "They’re guiding you. Think of it as... an invitation."

"Invitation or a trap," Kaelar muttered, hovering his gloved hand just above a glyph. A static tingle raced across his skin, nothing physical, yet undeniably real.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"Patience," CAPRA said, drifting closer. "Ancient mysteries don’t unlock like vending machines. You have to court them."

Kaelar exhaled sharply. "If you’re going to keep talking, say something useful. What is this place?"

CAPRA didn’t answer immediately. It floated near the walls, eyes narrowing—not analyzing, but remembering.

"It’s not just a ship," it said finally. "It’s designed. Grown. A repository."

Kaelar’s gut tightened. "A repository for what?"

"Knowledge," CAPRA answered. "Memory. Dangerous relics. Or maybe just a forgotten galactic chili recipe."

Kaelar shook his head and moved forward.

The corridor opened into a vast vestibule. At the far end stood a seamless door—tall, imposing, without hinges or handles. Glyphs along its frame brightened at his approach, casting slow constellations across the floor.

"You know how to open it, don’t you?" Kaelar asked.

"Of course," CAPRA said, mock smugness returning. "Biometric interface. Touch the glyphs, both sides."

  "And if you’re wrong?"

  "Then we die gloriously."

Kaelar grimaced but placed his palms against the symbols.

  Heat flared.

The glyphs surged to life, the walls trembling with a low harmonic chime.

  The door didn’t open.

  It dissolved, vaporizing into mist.

  Beyond it, the darkness waited.

  Kaelar stepped through without hesitation.
