Cynthia stepped forward quickly, blocking the staff member who was about to leave, and asked quietly, "Brother, why doesn't Chloe have to queue? We arrived almost at the same time."
Even if someone didn't need to queue, shouldn't that person be her?
She was the investor's daughter; didn't bringing investment to join the crew come with even this little privilege?
The staff member was already busy and disoriented, feeling very irritable. So even though Cynthia's tone was relatively polite, the other party still impatiently furrowed his brows and said coldly, "Why so many questions? Just follow the arrangements and do as you're told."
His voice wasn't loud, but it was clear enough for those nearby to hear. Many people glanced over, their looks carrying varying degrees of mockery and disdain.
Cynthia, who had never been treated like this growing up, also knew she couldn't reveal her status as someone who "brought investment to join the crew" here. She took out her phone, walked to the side, and called her father, full of grievance, to complain.
Meanwhile, under the envious gazes of the crowd, Chloe, accompanied by Vivian, entered the makeup room designated by the staff.
The makeup room wasn't large. The curtains were drawn, and the lighting was somewhat dim. There were only two makeup stations, one of which was already occupied.
When she saw who it was, Vivian covered her mouth in excitement, exclaiming in a hushed, choked voice, "Oh my god, Chloe, it's Bryan!"
Bryan, a popular actor with both popularity and acting skill. His team had a great knack for picking scripts; in his three years since debut, he had no terrible dramas. Now, with just one more hit series, he was bound to become the next top-tier male actor.
This was also Chloe's first time seeing a star so close up, and she felt a mix of small excitement and nervousness.
"Chloe, right?" The makeup artist, Lily, put down her coffee and stood up to greet them as someone entered.
Chloe quickly nodded, pulling her gaze away from Bryan, and stepped forward politely to greet her. "Hello!"
Out of professional habit, Lily naturally assessed Chloe's face and then smiled with satisfaction. "You have a great base, young lady. Have a seat!"
Celebrity makeup artists always liked those with good natural features; it saved a lot of trouble and effort.
Stolen story; please report.
It was Chloe's first makeup test. After sitting down, she became as still as if frozen.
Seeing this, Lily smiled slightly, casually opened the makeup kit on the table. Chloe just glimpsed inside and saw it was full of brand-name products.
Then came the silent process of applying makeup. The one male and one female actress and the two makeup artists didn't speak, making the atmosphere in the small room quiet and somewhat oppressive.
The only person showing any emotion was probably Vivian, sitting on the chair by the door, her eyes shining as she stared incessantly at Bryan, her eyeballs practically wanting to fly onto him.
Then she bragged in the dorm group chat. If the staff hadn't just said photography was forbidden here, she would have secretly taken a hundred photos to bring back.
Just then, the makeup room door was pushed open, and Cynthia walked in, her head slightly raised like a proud peacock.
"Which one is Lily?" Cynthia asked directly.
Lily glanced at her and said, "That's me."
"They told me to come in and find you for the makeup test."
"What's your name?" Lily asked, picking up the roster nearby.
"Cynthia."
The name wasn't on the list of actors she was responsible for. Lily couldn't help but frown in confusion.
She went to the door and called out, "Mia, come here a moment."
A staff member named Mia quickly ran over when she heard this. "Yes, Lily?"
Pointing at the list, Lily asked, "Cynthia isn't on here either. Did you guys make a mistake? Don't add to my workload!"
Mia first gave Cynthia a meaningful look, then carefully whispered an explanation into Lily's ear. "Please bear with it. She's from the investor's side."
With that one sentence, Lily understood instantly. She couldn't help but roll her eyes skyward, dismissed Mia without further ado, and casually closed the door.
"Sit and wait," she then said impatiently to Cynthia before continuing with Chloe's makeup.
Cynthia curled her lip, shot a disdainful look at Vivian sitting to the side, moved a chair, and sat down on the other side.
But after sitting down and looking up, she finally noticed that the person having a wig applied was none other than Bryan.
"Ah—" She couldn't hold back an excited shriek, her backside instantly springing up from the chair just after touching it. She covered her mouth excitedly. "Br... Bryan!"
Applying a wig is a lengthy process. The reason no one was talking earlier was that Bryan had his eyes closed, feigning rest, so everyone kept quiet to maintain a peaceful environment.
Cynthia's exclamation directly startled Bryan, making him jolt.
"Bryan, I'm your die-hard fan! I started following you from 'Legends of the Ancient Path' right up to 'Whistling West Wind' that finished airing last month. Oh my god, can I take a photo with you?"
Cynthia's voice even carried a hint of a sob; she seemed to be a genuine fan.
"No photos allowed here," Bryan’s makeup artist interjected with clear displeasure. "You're here for a makeup test, not to chase stars."
Thwarted, Cynthia could only sit back down resentfully, subtly moving her chair forward a bit.
"Bryan, are you a lead role? The male lead or the second male lead?"
"I'm so excited! I never thought I'd get to work with you on my very first project."
She kept talking to herself, completely failing to notice the changed expressions on Bryan’s and both makeup artists' faces. Finally, Lily couldn't take it anymore and scolded, "Can you be quiet?"
Cynthia's words caught in her throat. Seeing that Bryan wasn't responding either, she obediently fell silent and sat properly.
Chloe's makeup and styling were completed relatively quickly, but attaching the artificial hairpiece was very time-consuming. It took nearly three hours to complete the entire makeup and hairstyling.
Finally, placing the headdress, Lily nodded with satisfaction. "All done."
Chloe looked at her reflection in the mirror and was momentarily mesmerized. After a long moment, she murmured, "So beautiful. Thank you"
Lily smiled and instructed, "Go sit to the side for now. Someone will come shortly to arrange for you to change clothes and take the staged photos."
Chloe nodded, turned, and went to sit next to Vivian. Vivian, amazed by her look, kept nodding and secretly gave her a thumbs-up. "You look stunning, baby!"
Cynthia naturally noticed Chloe's makeup and styling too. The white jade flowing hairpin adorned on her hairpiece – that was definitely not the styling a maid would have!
Moreover, the makeup was exceptionally refined, enhancing Chloe's beauty even further.
But she didn't say anything. Instead, she felt a secret delight internally. If Chloe, playing the fourth young miss's maid, could have such beautiful styling, then hers certainly wouldn't be worse.
She sat down with a face full of anticipation and proactively said to Lily, " I'm playing 'Ada,' the personal maid of the second young miss, 'Daisy'."
