Chapter 10: A Bloody Warmup Battle

“Sir what’s the plan,” Clara asked as she notched a few arrows.

There were about 90 total demons and imps surrounding Naga squad.

Shoyo looked around and noted something interesting. He said, “I don’t see any mages with them… So that’s good.”

“That still doesn’t help the fact we’re still royally fucked, sir,” Gil exclaimed. “How the hell did I not pick up their sulfur scent?”

“No time to worry about that,” Ren cut in. “Sho. Three of us go left. Two go right. Clear out the levels one by one. Then we fight Sagran after. He probably has a protective barrier around him. Clara? Want to check?”

“Sure,” Clara shot an arrow at Sagran and the arrow broke apart hitting a protective bubble around him. “Of fucking course. God, I hate demons!”

“INCOMING,” Remi yelled as one massive demon jumped down knocking Remi back.

He quickly parried and hacked into the Demon’s left arm as it lunged at him. Soon after, 5 imps jumped on him and Gil. The imps were easily taken down. Clara shot one demon in the eye slit of his helmet blinding him as two more demon knights threw spears at her. She dodged them and fired back only for the arrows to graze off their armor. Ren sprinted upwards slicing 2 imps and a demon knight in half as she ran up a sloped walkway to a second level with more of the demon knights congregating.

Shoyo Yelled out, “Remi! Gil! Move to right! Clara with me and Ren! GO!”

Shoyo quickly fought off two demon knights as he shattered a great axe and quickly stabbed into the second one in the gullet. He instantly swung around and palm-strike the demon knight in the face followed immediately by a drop kick off a ledge crushing 2 imps. Clara ran across roof tops and hall ways dodging spears and knives and the occasionally repeating crossbow bolts. She fired back when she could and killed a decent amount. However the demon knights proved too strong for her arrows. She knew she had to get up close on them or grab one of the repeating crossbows when possible. Remi and Gil slashed and brawled their way through destroyed buildings and walkways as they violently fought their way upwards. Ren was calmly and efficiently striking everything down in her path.

Shoyo found himself surrounded by 5 demon knights slobbering at the mouth with their abnormally large, sharp teeth. He smiled and said to them, “I’m waiting!”

All 5 attacked him only for Shoyo to slice through all of them in a flash with only a single swing of his sword. Sagran took note of this and was impressed. Remi hacked at one demon knight with his great axe to the head and grabbed two imps by the necks and crushed them on a wall. Gil was slicing and slashing his way through, though getting stabbed every so often. He got so annoyed by the imps that he started biting them and tearing their limbs off with his mouth. Clara eventually had to resort to the repeating crossbow in order to kill the demon knights firing at her. She jumped across the roof into a back flip firing down below on three demon knights impaling each of them in the face and neck.

After 30 minutes of fighting, Naga squad regrouped back at the circle steps. Everyone was covered in blood. Ren’s white cloak and armor was very red in contrast to everyone else. Gil was breathing heavily and growling as blood dripped out of his mouth. Remi was on one knee with half his face covered in blood and his neck and arms covered in slashes and bite marks. Shoyo was covered in blood, but stood tall. Clara was patching up a shoulder wound whilst covered in dust and blood.

Sagran finally stood up and said, “Not surprised. I did expect you to finish sooner though.”

“Who cares,” Gil snarled out wanting to charge forward. Remi instantly grabbed him. Clara calmed him down by talking to him.

Ren Stood next to Shoyo as both of them stared at Sagran. Ren said, “That felt too easy.”

  “Easy?”

“Yes, Sho… Those demon knights were not the best fighters, but they were loyal to the end.”

  “Good observation,” Sagran interjected.

His hand glowed red as a blinding flash of light burst out. Soon, everyone found themselves on the circle that was somehow floating in ethereal space with 20 foot high walls surrounding everyone. On top of the walls were more demon knights and imps watching in anxious anticipation.

Sagran said, “You only fought a part of my legion. This is the rest.”

About a few hundred demon knights and imps sat around the wall as if they were attending a gladiatorial fight in a coliseum. Some had drinks, some had popcorn, and some were loudly placing bets on who will die first.

Sagran said plainly, “I give you the honor of fighting me. I’ll make this fair. My protective barrier is gone… Kill me and the sword is yours and my legion will got back to hell. If you all die… Then your corpses will make excellent dinner.”

“Five to one? Not a fair fight.”

“Indeed… For you, it is not fair. Note: I may find pleasure in fighting you all. Been a while since I had a challenge. With that… You have my respect.”

“Too simple,” Shoyo inquired. A sense of something being constantly off set in. He asked, “You figured out our tendencies and weaknesses didn’t you?”

  “Observant.”

“I do forget sometimes. I do forget that most demon leaders are over a millennia old. You are by far the oldest one still alive on this continent… I am always up for a challenge. Win or lose… It will be legendary.”

“Ha,” Sagran laughed unnaturally from his helmet. The demons and imps began to laugh echoing violently across the circle. “Only legendary if you could injure me my dear, pathetic, insolent mortal. I can’t wait to rip your spine from your blood sacks and peel off the skin and nervous system! Enough talk!”

Sagran lunged forward with blinding speed.
