Chapter 1

  Chapter 1

“ATTENTION: This is General Carter, head to designated beaming locations and begin evacuation procedures! The hyperdrive is going critical” declared the battle hardened General.

After their demise the Asgard entrusted their technology to planet Earth as a means of passing the mantle of protecting the galaxy to the human race. Although Othala and Orilla, two of their great homeworlds, had been destroyed, a few other planets in the former Asgard Empire managed to survive with their spoils left intact. Idavollor, the ancient meeting place of the Aesir, was one example. The small world tucked deep within the former Asgardian galaxy of Ida, was said to hold riches and technologies gifted to Midgard for the protection of the planet Earth and the human race. This planet was indeed an ancient colony world of the Asgard with many of their glorious buildings, magnificent statues, and wondrous technologies left for mankind to explore.

Sitting high up in the skies of Idavollor lay Earth’s finest ship – the BC 304 George Hammond. On a cold Christmas day, General Carter was busy trying to install new hyperdrive technology left behind by the Asgard. Her goal was to find a way to get the Hammond to the Ancient Starship Destiny, trapped in a continuous journey on the other side of space. It had been five years since Colonel Young and his team on Icarus base first dialed Destiny’s 9th chevron in a desperate attempt to flee the Lucian Alliance’s devastating attack. With the ship in need of serious repairs and without a ZPM or equivalent power source at their disposal, the crew of the Destiny was stuck in constant limbo on the old vessel with little food and constant danger. This new engine would revolutionize intergalactic travel. Similar to the wormhole drive on Atlantis, the new hyperdrive utilized wormhole technology to transport matter lightyears through space in a blink of an eye.

“Amos, over here!” urged Dr. Jackson amidst the swirling chaos.

Dr. Jackson was no longer a member of SG-1. He was now chairman of the International Oversight Advisory which governed all aspects of the Stargate Program. Instead, Amos Fyree, a recent Yale graduate and specialist in the classics had taken his place on SG-1. T. Amos Fyree had been working as a civilian research consultant for Stargate Command for years now. He was raised an orphan, an African American orphan, drifting back and forth between foster families in elementary school and finally being adopted by a rich jewish family in Chicago. He quickly seized the opportunity to do great things with their abundant resources and his strive for academic excellence. After graduating from high school, he received his undergraduate degree from Yale; afterwards he went on to pursue his graduate degree at the University of Chicago. That is where he met Dr. Sarah Gardner, a former love interest and colleague of Dr. Daniel Jackson. Dr. Gardner saw his drive, determination, and passion and connected Amos with him. He then invited Amos into the Stargate Program headquartered in the heart of Colorado’s Cheyenne Mountain.

Amos worked in the archaeological department of Stargate Command for three years before he became the apprentice to Dr. Jackson. Not only that, but Daniel was personally training Amos on filling his shoes at Stargate Command. Unbeknownst to him, In a little while Amos would be filling more than just Daniel’s shoes. He would be putting on the shoes of all the members of SG-1.

Amos dashed over to Dr. Jackson’s workstation on board the Hammond. “We don’t have that much time, Amos. I need you to take this laptop, on it you will find a copy of every mission report from Stargate Command. I have written down the password and have left all my research and work on here throughout the years.

Also, take this,” Dr. Jackson reached behind him and picked up an ornately crafted hourglass with the image of a sundial on the top of its head.

“This device was made by Janus an Ancient. I want you to take it and study it to figure out its purpose,” said Daniel.

“Dr. Jackson won’t you be joining us in the evacuation,” Amos asked. “No, I have to go help General Carter with the hyperdrive before it goes critical,” stated Dr. Jackson his resolve unwavering.

“Dr. Jackson, if you don’t come with me you will die!” Amos yelled, desperation lacing his words. “I can’t worry about that now, I have to try and help Sam. When you replace me on SG1 you will learn that we don’t leave our people behind. Now Go! take the backpack with the laptop and the device and get the hell out of here!” ordered Dr. Jackson.

Amos complied, snatching the heavy backpack that contained not only Dr. Jackson's laptop and notes but also the ancient artifact with its golden emblem. He raced through the thick smoke that enveloped the ship, heading towards the designated beaming site.

“Good luck, Dr. Jackson!” he shouted at the last moment, his heart racing.

“Good luck, Amos,” came Dr. Jackson’s steady reply, echoing like a promise in the din of the approaching crisis.

A brilliant beam of azure light surrounded young Amos as he descended to the surface of the alien planet. The moment his feet met the ground of Idavollor, he gazed skyward, where a cataclysm unfolded: the George Hammond, Earth’s mightiest vessel, erupted in a violent explosion that painted the heavens with flames. Panic surged within him—no sign of Dr. Jackson or General Carter greeted his frantic search. As fragments of wreckage rained down and the ominous shadows drew near, a chilling realization settled in.

Dr. Jackson and General Carter, two legendary members of sg1, were dead!
