Chapter 2: Birth Of The Maw

Minutes turned to hours as his viscous form glided across the rock.

Heikin absorbed anything he could dissolve in his gelatinous state.

  Even if it wasn’t much.

Heikin had just finished absorbing another patch of moss along the cave walls.

By this point, it was starting to feel repetitive.

  [SYSTEM NOTICE]

[Consume skill — Level 2 acquired]

[Biomass absorption capabilities have reached 3%]

  [-Alert-]

[Entities' consumption of plant matter is no longer sufficient for increased growth]

[System recommendation.....increase productivity with absorption of other life forms]

“I only absorb 3% of the plant material from consumption? Not exactly desirable.” Heikin thought.

“Plant matter alone won’t cut it. Figures. Even reincarnation has diminishing returns.”

“I’ve seen interns perform better than that.”

Heikin starts sliding along the floor. Seeking new prey, something to satiate the growing appetite.

“So the System wants me to branch out. Typical. Step one: survive. Step two: moral compromise.”

“Still… energy was energy. Scaled inputs mattered more than current yield. Beggars can't be choosers, I suppose. Afterall, I am still just a slime.”

  His senses detected it first.

A small vibration. A light pitter-patter of small feet against stone.

  “That's my mark in motion.”

He slithered into a slow crawl at a bush near a crack in the rock.

“This space reduces visibility. It was… suitable.”

  Not “safe.”

  Not “comfortable.”

  Suitable.

“Another rodent. Let's test my new strategy.”

Using the absorbed moss pigment compounds in his system, He morphed his color to a cool green hue.

  Next, Heikin sat still.

Then he swayed. Ever so slightly.

Like a flower in a breeze.

“It moved predictably. Hunger dictates its path. Fear is hesitation. If I wait, it will come to enjoy the delicacy.”

The small mammal caught the scent.

  Slowly scurrying toward the slime.

  One step....two.

Heikin lunges forward in a swift motion.

Unlike the first rat. This one had no time to screech.

Its essence was already being dissolved into the gelatinous body.

  Heikin felt no Guilt—Only Accounting.

  [SYSTEM NOTICE]

[Life signs ceased. Nutrient intake confirmed.]

  No apology.

  No triumph.

  No disgust.

  Just confirmation.

  [SYSTEM NOTICE]

  New Skill Acquired:

  ? Night Vision

[Vision improved situational awareness. If maintained, blind zones could be eliminated.]

  Heikin tested the new sense.

Where darkness once reigned became clear.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“The body was different. The problem set remained familiar.”

In the distance, he saw movement.

Bodies walking together. But not guarded.

  Long ears twitching in torchlight.

“Goblins,” he thought. “Time to evolve.”

“Energy is energy. The source only matters to people who can afford preferences.”

“I’d prefer not to eat anything that screams. Unfortunately, preference isn’t on the menu.”

“This appetite isn’t asking anymore. It’s negotiating.”

  As Heikin moved swiftly.

His mind drifted to his last life.

Heikin K. Remington....a name that meant “Average.”

Heikin isn’t average in capability. He’s average in visibility.

He understood systems, incentives, power structures, and how people exploit rules.

But he never claimed authority. Never demanded credit. Never forced recognition.

So the world flattened him into “average.”

Now he’s ready to reject that label.

“This system rewards hunger.” Heikin thought.

His liquid form now gliding up the stone cavern like an unwanted leech.

“These things could kill me. Which means it’s worth remembering.”

Heikin uses the mossy pigment in his body to camouflage into the stone rock itself. Morphing into a gray, unremarkable blob on the rocky texture.

“I don’t need to win. I just need to not lose long enough.”

“Survival first. Regret can come later—assuming I live long enough to feel it.”

Two goblin scouts continue walking forward. Unaware of the presence lingering above.

“Just one positive outcome can change the game.”

The left goblin walks a few paces behind the first.

  It’s an opening.

But if Heikin strikes even a few seconds off, it can all be over.

“It’s time to become something so large that no one can define again.”

Once the goblin passes under Heikin from their patrol. He swoops his liquid mass down and lifts them by their head up to the ceiling.

Drowning the goblin in his digestive essence.

The goblin struggles futilely as his slimy body surrounds them, eventually absorbing all but their armor and weapons.

  [SYSTEM NOTICE]

  [You become significantly larger.]

[humanoid form unlucked - Goblin (lesser variant)]

  Kurai hoshi — “Dim Star”

That insult is brutal in a subtle way for Heikin.

  It’s not:

  “You’re useless”

  “You’re stupid”

  But:

“You could shine. You just don’t.”

That kind of cruelty lingers. It becomes identity corrosion.

“Objective accomplished,” Heikin said. Crawling down walls toward the edges of the dungeon corridor.

“If this keeps up, I might develop a taste for ambition.”

“I died once already. Being unimpressive twice would be embarrassing. No teeth. No claws. No dignity. But I do have time.”

“If this is rock bottom… then at least nothing can knock me down any further.”

Heikin’s no longer just the man trained to undervalue himself.

  In his new world.

The system rewards consumption, ambition, and assertion; it feels like the universe is finally saying:

  Stop dimming yourself.

  His usefulness became invisible labor.

  His insight fed others’ influence.

So now when the System appears and says:

  Consume. Adapt. Grow.

  It doesn’t feel corrupting.

  It feels affirming.

  The hunger isn’t evil.

  It’s permission.

It's like the system subtly encourages him to act.

  To choose power over breaking.

Heikin morphs into his new form.

Muscles and bone formed were their once weren’t any but gelatinous ooz.

He stands up on his newly constructed legs.

  Their small but sturdy enough.

He grips his small, clawed hand together. Eyes looking toward a distant grouping of huts.

Surrounding the wooden structures were dozens of small, flickering torches around the settlement.

“Time to scale. Let’s hope my next harvest is bountiful.”

This is how a tale of a mere slime reaches godhood.

A slime that refuses to remain small.

  And slowly—quietly—his hunger grows.

  Not madness.

  Ambition.

A systems-thinker turned blasphemous slime god in waiting.
