The roads got done in 5 days. Even with the laying of the raw magic ore. Even with the bridges over certain parts of the waterways. Magic is pretty helpful. Digging to the desired depth and having the workers filling in the needed layers for proper drainage was easy. Using the spell 'Melt Earth' helped patch up any huge cracks.
Now with the proper roads, the people and their carts have clear paths. Buildings can be put up in earnest now. The building plan is simple due to the Allen territory's location.
The west will have the jobs and the east will have the housing. The territory is a border keep. The river flows south into a desert and drains into an oasis. The west is the forest of unspeakable horrors. The north holds the Corvus territory of the Valen Empire. And finally, the east holds the only road to the Quinn estate in the city where the Boreal kingdom's railway ends.
The plan is to have the northwest contain the future smithy and bakery powered by a waterwheel.. True west will contain the Mercenary guild and butchery. and the South west will be the warehouse and granary. A lot of Wheat, oats, and assorted fruits and veggies will be stored and processed. The northeast and southeast will have the residential areas and true east will have the market.
The center of the city will be called the 'Garden'. This is where his special stopgap will go. The layered runes that make up the layout of this town uses up more Mana than it generates. This is where the Allen family heirloom will come in.
Underneath the little throne in the audience room of the crumbling estate is a [Draconic Crystal]. Monsters all over this world grow a Mana core. Their food and environment are overloaded with Mana that it gathers and becomes a tumor that boosts their power. Dragons are different. Their crystal is a true organ that properly digests and pumps both Mana and Aura throughout the body at a steady rate.
The little palm sized red pearl will be placed in the center of the runes. Which is why the Dew Roses will be planted in the pattern that coincides with the gathering rune. It with devour the excess and pump it into the barrier.
This plan wouldn't work if it wasn't a [Draconic Crystal]. Dragons, especially young ones, are the most adaptable beings on the planet. Humans are a close second, but they need generations of learning and tradition to be stable. Dragons adapt to their environment as they go through puberty. Losing or gaining limbs, growing hooks, being more streamlined in the water, and eating ores are just some of the things they can do given enough time.
But that's neither here nor there. He's still waiting on Solus to get here with the Dew Roses.
"Progress report?" Marcus asked one of the few knights still present.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
Vlad was a large man. But despite his stature he never saw battle. His wife forbid it and the Allen family knew all too well that you should never make your pregnant partner angry. Now with his baby son born, Vlad carries him everywhere while his wife rests.
"Northeast is done, south east is 75% complete." Vlad said as he deftly flipped through papers while the baby rests on his chest. "The market was put on hold as per your instruction to speed up the west, which will start in two days. Thankfully, we built the granary first. It would have been bad if we didn't have bread."
"Perfect. I will need to make a small edit to the map and add two buildings to the city later. I still haven't figured out where to put the school and Mage Hall. Maybe I can fit the school somewhere near the market? I think the Mage Hall might have to go down near the farm though...We'll think of something."
While Vlad might be a subpar warrior, he is great at barking out orders and heavy lifting. He will be the one who will train the Knights when the training grounds are built. He needed a new guard order made just in case he has to tear apart Corvus' territory. Purple water that screams when purified is not even close to normal.
"Well, get some rest. We'll start back up in the morning." With a nod, Vlad left for home.
Marcus was toeing a fine line. He needed this place to be self sufficient enough that it didn't need him 24/7 but not so much as to have it taken away from him. If his territory was given to Statten or some other bastard, he'd start a war.
Thankfully, he made the bread free for the citizens. The farm was producing at such a ridiculous rate that charging just felt gross to him. Every 2 days the fields were ready to harvest due to the growth rune. It was a good thing that no problems developed because of it. Mutant plants are a terrible thing to deal with.
Herbology and Summonology should never mix unless all other avenues have been explored. And even then it's touch and go.
More work to be done. More bread. Metal crafting is needed asap. Tomorrow he is going to thin out more of the 'Doomed Forest' to use for woodworking. Those logs are so thick and heavy that they make perfect materials for houses. Each tree being 50 feet tall helps a lot with construction and enchantments.
Busy busy.

The notes were an eye opener. And with some tweaking she did it. A Mage with an Aura. The note called it a 'Spellsword'. She didn't know what a 'dual core processor' was but they did what that mysterious senior thought it would do.
Mages gather Mana in the heart and pump it through every part of the body. If you are too advanced along, it will choke out any Aura you try to introduce into your body. But the Mana percentage in the body starts thin and you cant even cast until the second circle is established.
Aura operates on separate, yet parallel, pathways to your bloodstream and fills in any gaps. Mana gathering starts too thin to establish a stable circle when you are filled with molten life energy.
But if you open your Life Gate at the second circle, the two rings melt into a thinker one. The Aura stays in it's own lane and still fills in the gaps in the body. They two energies seem to guide each other. The Aura is guided by the Mana present in the blood and therefore is more streamlined and doesn't bounce around in the body. It even made her spell casting even more permanent, the spell [Cancel] doesn't work on her attacks anymore.
An unexpected boon was the introduction of the elements in her sword and spear training. Her blade often igniting with fire or getting heavier with the might of the earth.
Elena Drapnir was a force to be reckoned with.
