The Binding Record
An academy-circulated account of the two recognized paths of power.
The Binding Record II — Law Bound
Definition
Law Bound are combatants who do not manipulate law.
Their strength comes from body tempering and the disciplined use of essence-driven technique. Where Law Bearers manipulate the world through law, Law Bound prevail through endurance, momentum, and formation.
Body Tempering
Law Bound undergo permanent physical refinement.
Through prolonged conditioning, the body is raised beyond normal human limits:
- Strength and stamina
- Skeletal resilience
- Nervous system speed and stability
- Resistance to shock, fear, and suppression
- Reliable sensory performance
These changes are lasting. Tempering defines the Law Bound’s baseline state.
Technique
Technique is the controlled, temporary release of essence to exceed the tempered baseline.
Common applications include:
- Explosive strikes driven by momentum
- Short-range speed bursts impossible for unreinforced bodies
- Reflex sharpening under lethal pressure
- Weapon momentum amplification
Technique is finite and must be timed carefully. Excessive use leads to rapid fatigue and vulnerability.

Training Reality
Law Bound training is severe and selective.
The body is driven to failure, then repaired and reinforced through internal essence control. This process is painful and dangerous.
As a result, Law Bound commonly develop:
- Early combat readiness
- High pain tolerance
- Strong mental resilience
Many fail. Those who endure are dependable in battle.
Role in Warfare
Law Bound dominate organized combat and direct engagement.
In formation, they function as:
- Line breakers
- Anchors under pressure
- Advancing fronts that are difficult to halt
They lack wide-area annihilation, but once committed, their advance is relentless.
Known Progression
The following classifications are widely recognized:
- Initiate — Newly trained; lethal to untrained opponents
- Steelbound — Trained combatant
- Blooded — Survivor of real battle
- Vanguard — Formation leader
- Warcaller — Elite battlefield presence
Higher classifications exist but are rarely discussed.
Training Stages
Within the academy, Law Bound training is commonly described in stages:
- Initiate — Entry-level conditioning
- Apprentice — Repeatable technique use
- Adept — Reliable under combat stress
- Practiced — Proficient and consistent; demonstrably more capable than Adept
These stages describe training progression, not battlefield authority.
Summary
Law Bound do not manipulate law.
They advance until resistance breaks.
