Day 2 of Week 2.
By now, Captain and Lumina were already deep into their stamina training, having pushed past the first hour. The regimen mirrored Hikari and Slayer's routine, with one key difference... Lumina had trimmed the rest period from five minutes down to four. Of course she did. Even so, Captain held his ground, and used every second of that short break to steady his breathing before getting back into it. Lumina stood nearby, arms folded tightly across her chest. Her gaze stayed sharp, expression unreadable, until her voice cut through the silence.
"You're doing well so far, Captain." Lumina's tone was calm, but there was a quiet pride beneath it. "First, your aura is powerful and steady. I can tell Slayer taught you well, your control and precision are clear. Second, you've held your Emanation State for a full hour, which means that part of the test is complete. You should be proud of that. Most people can't even maintain the state that long without faltering." She paused, a faint smirk tugging at her lips. "And lastly... this one's a bit personal though. ...Not many people impress me so easily. But you? You're doing just that, so make sure to be proud of it."
The corner of Captain's mouth curled upward. "Hm. I'll make sure to keep that in mind." He tilted his head, voice low with confidence. "But you better get used to it because I plan to impress you more times than you can count."
Lumina raised an eyebrow, her smirk growing. "Oh? We'll see soon enough then. Just don't let that confidence eat you away." Her expression hardened. "Now focus, because this time you will be aiming for two hours and excuses are unacceptable. I'm expecting great results from you."
"Don't worry." Captain's reply was cool, almost casual. "I won't fail you. But... I wouldn't mind seeing what happens if I do."
"Well, just don't say I didn't warn you." Lumina's smirk turned sly as her hand playfully brushed the hilt of the blade strapped across her back, SHNK! a teasing spark in her eyes.
"Noted for future survival." Captain rolled his shoulders loose, then stepped into the center of the dojo. With a sharp breath, he let out a fierce yell. HRAAAAH! A blazing red aura erupted around him, heat-like waves. FWOOOSH! Lumina's eyes flickered with faint amusement.
"Very good," she said, clearly impressed. Then her voice shifted... cool and commanding. Now... the clock begins. You've got two hours. And failure-" her eyes narrowed, "-is not an option."
"Yessir! I mean-ma'am!" Captain corrected himself quickly.
"Hmph." SHNK! In a blink, Lumina vanished.
"What the-?!" Captain spun, scanning the room.
"Up here." Lumina's voice drifted down with a teasing lilt, almost daring him to find her.
Captain followed the voice, eyes snapping upward. Lumina sat perched high on a thick support beam, legs elegantly crossed, perfectly at ease as she peered down at him like a hawk.
"Too fast for you? That's because you blinked!" Her tone was playful, teasing. "I'll be watching from up here, so be sure to behave. AND don't even think about cheating, I'll sense the moment your aura falters." She leaned back casually, yet her sharp gaze never wavered.
"Tch..." Captain shook his head in disbelief. "Jeez... she's fast." But that didn't matter now. He planted his feet firmly, drawing in a breath. "Focus."
He closed his eyes, syncing with the steady rhythm of his aura. WHUM... WHUM... Red aura pulsed around him. His breathing evened out as the world around him blurred away. Minutes crawled by. HUFF... HUFF... Sweat dripped from his forehead, sliding down the side of his face. His fists clenched tighter, arms trembling ever so slightly as the heat of his aura pressed against him. Fifteen minutes. Thirty. His shoulders ached, his muscles straining under the invisible weight. By forty-five minutes, his breath grew heavier. Still, his stance never faltered. Then an hour. Halfway there.
From above, Lumina watched in silence, her sharp eyes never leaving him. As the second hour neared its end, she finally moved. FWUMP! She dropped from the beam with graceful ease, landing without a sound. Her feet touched down just as Captain fell to one knee in the center of the floor. His aura still burned bright, but his breaths came heavy and rough. HUFF... HUFF... His jaw was clenched, every muscle taut, yet his focus hadn't broken.
Lumina stepped forward, arms crossed, her gaze fixed on him. At last, she spoke. "You've held it for over an hour now." Her voice was calm, but carried weight as she circled him like a hawk. "Hm, not bad at all."

Captain let out a slow exhale, forcing the tension out of his chest. "You saying that... almost sounds like a compliment."
"Almost." Lumina's lips curved into a smirk. "But let's not get carried away just yet. You're starting to lose focus."
"Have you considered it might be because you're distracting me?" Captain muttered under his breath.
SHNK! A sharp flick of her fingers sent a thin arc of green energy past his ear, close enough to make his red aura flicker. "Focus," Lumina snapped. "Red aura or not, you drop it once, and we start back at zero."
"Tch, yeah." Captain gritted his teeth, forcing his posture straight. WHUM! The red glow steadied again, pulsing clearer and stronger.
Lumina resumed pacing around him, the wooden floor creaking beneath her steps. Her voice softened slightly, though her eyes stayed sharp. "Keep your mind locked onto the energy and make sure it flows constant. Remember, your thoughts shape your Emanation and anger burns it out too fast, while calm... refines it." She paused, the faintest trace of pride flickering in her tone. "You're definitely improving, I'll give you that much. That's... another reason you're starting to impress me."
Captain tilted his head slightly, a teasing edge in his tone. "Oh? And what happens if I impress you again?"
Lumina stopped pacing. A slow grin tugged at the corner of her lips. "Then maybe... I'll make you my special dish from the tavern."
Captain let out a low chuckle, tilting his head. "Is it really that special?"
She gasped, mock offended, placing a hand dramatically over her chest. "Excuse me?? I run the best tavern in Xevia! People line up for that dish."
"You sure it's not just the drinks?" Captain quipped dryly, his voice low and playful.
Her eyes narrowed, glinting with mischief. "One more joke, and I'll make you hold your aura upside down."
Captain tilted his head slightly, his tone dry. "That's... not how that works."
Lumina leaned in closer, her playful look fading as her tone sharpened. "But seriously... if you lose focus now, even for a second, you won't make it to the two-hour mark."
Captain gave a firm nod. "Understood."
She stepped back, arms crossing once more. "Good. Because you're not leaving this dojo until you hit two hours."
WHUM... The red aura around Captain pulsed stronger as he steadied himself, a quiet chuckle slipping out. "Now that's real motivation."
The final stretch began...
Lumina stood silently at the edge, her sharp gaze never wavering as the last ten minutes ticked down. Captain's aura dimmed, not gone, but flickering. DRIP. Sweat slid down his face. His body trembled and his vision blurred at the edges.
Five minutes left...
The dojo was quiet, save for the low hum of energy and the sound of Captain's labored breaths. HUFF... HUFF...
Lumina stepped forward, her voice firm and unyielding. "Five more minutes left on the clock. That's all that's left so don't fall now."
CRACK! Captain's fists clenched tight as his body screamed for rest. His legs trembled under the weight of exhaustion, sweat dripping freely down his jaw. His focus frayed, his aura flickering dangerously. A voice in his head whispered to stop, to collapse, to try again tomorrow.
But then... he heard it. His daughter's laughter, light and innocent. Then came his wife's voice, softly humming the lullaby she always sang at night. It carried the warmth he thought he'd lost forever. For a moment, he saw them both in front of him. His daughter's smile, his wife's gentle eyes. They looked at him the same way they always had, like he was their world. The memory struck him hard, deep in his chest. He gritted his teeth, breath steadied, and his fighting spirit surged. ("Not this time. I won't let them down again.")
A low growl escaped his throat as he forced himself upright. FWOOSH! The red aura flared again, wrapping his arms and shoulders, faint but alive, like a stubborn flame refusing to die. "I can do this," Captain whispered. His voice shook, but his resolve didn't. "I have to..."
Lumina's gaze sharpened, her hands resting firmly on her hips. "Then what are you waiting for? Emanate brighter!"
Captain's eyes snapped open, burning with fire. "Then get ready to cook that special dish."
And in that instant, something clicked. The flickering stopped. His aura pulsed with rhythm now, steady and firm. No longer wild or unstable. This was Captain in control. "This fire doesn't control me," he growled. "I control it."
Lumina's lips curved into the faintest smirk as the final seconds ticked away. Three... two... one... silence. Captain's aura held. He didn't collapse or shout. He just simply exhaled, letting the red glow settle calmly around him.
Lumina stepped forward. CLAP! A single, deliberate sound echoed through the dojo. "Enough." Her voice rang out, sharp but proud. "Congratulations, Captain. You've held your Emanation State for two full hours with no breaks or failures." She paused, her smirk deepening. "Very impressive. Talk about beginner's luck."
Captain dropped to one knee, sweat dripping from his jawline. His voice was rough, but steady. "Beginner's luck, huh? ...Tch ...I'll take it." His voice was rough, but steady. He lifted his head with a small grin. "So... how soon can I cash in on that dish?"
Lumina chuckled, crossing her arms as she turned toward the exit. "After that performance? I'll even let you pick the spice level."
Captain slowly pushed himself to his feet, rolling his sore shoulders. "Okay... how about medium?"
Lumina gave a sharp hmph, one hand resting on her hip. "Coward."
Captain exhaled through his nose, a faint grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Fine... spicy."
"Now that's what I like to hear." Her eyes softened with amusement as she smiled, then gave a firm nod toward the hallway. "Come on. Let's regroup at the main dojo. Hikari and Slayer should be almost done with their training by now."
SIGH... Captain rubbed the back of his neck as he followed after her. "Jeez, at least give me a break," he muttered under his breath.
He followed, each step heavy with fatigue, but his spirit unshaken. Meanwhile, Hikari and Slayer were nearing the end of their second hour of training... unaware of what awaited them back at the tavern.
