“Lick Lick Li Li” greeted me as I stepped outside with the food in morning. Lickitung was waiting by the food trough for his food with a Pidgey on his head. “Here you go my pink friend, enjoy!” I said chuckling to myself. After I finished feeding all the Pokèmon, I went inside and had some light breakfast myself with some oatmeal and green tea. While I was eating the Professor arrived for the day, “Good Morning Austin!” the Professor said cheerily. “How has the new distribution been working out so far?” The Professor asked. “I think it’s going very well! Some of the Pokèmon who were timid and shy before are looking much more relaxed. The aggressive Pokèmon also seem much more at ease since they only have to compete amongst themselves” I said with a proud smile on my face. (I was so worried that the aggressive Pokèmon would feel isolated and become anxious, but luckily they just seem more relaxed.) I thought to myself. “That’s wonderful news!” Professor said with a smile. “Oh by the way! More good news! The food you ordered is ready for pickup in Viridian City” Professor Oak told me. “Oh, that is good news! We could start the new diet plan this evening then!” I said excitedly. “So do you think you could go pick it up today?” Professor Oak asked me. “Sure, about that though. Do I need a Pokèmon to be safe when traveling?” I asked the Professor. “Oh yes, it had slipped my mind. We’ll need to register you as a trainer with this lab as your sponsor, and get you a Trainer ID with a Badge Case. Also, we’ll need to have you pick a Pokèmon to have and register as your own.
The time has come!!! I will finally become a trainer on top of being a researcher!!! 10 year old Austin is crying tears of joy. 26 seems a little late to become a first time trainer, but my time had finally came!!! “All right Professor, what are my options for Pokèmon?” I asked while trying to hide a big smile. “Well right now I have a Bulbasuar, an Eevee, or you could choose one of the lab Pokèmon who doesn’t have a trainer” Professor Oak said while typing up my Trainer Card. “You know what Professor, I actually have two Pokèmon I think I would like to bring with me. Do you think having two would be too difficult for me?” I asked Professor Oak. “No that should be fine as long as you are responsible, but by all means you seem more than capable” Professor Oak said. “Okay, I’ll be right back” I said while grabbing two Pokèballs.
After I headed outside, I went straight to Corral 2 where I could already see my first candidate. “Lick Lick Li Li” I heard greeting me as I got closer. “Hello Lickitung, would you like to be my new forever friend?” I asked while kneeling down. Lickitung looked me straight in the eye, and then laid down on the ground. He started rolling back and forth like a mad man making sounds of excitement. “Is that a yes then?” I asked Lickitung. “Lickitung, Lick Lick Lick” he started chanting while rolling. (All right, here we go) I thought to myself. I tapped the Pokèball to Lickitung once he stopped rolling, and watched it ding immediately showing that I had caught Lickitung. “YEAH, I CAUGHT LICKITUNG!!!” I cried out holding my Pokèball in the air. I cringed so hard that I started to laugh profusely and fell on the ground. While sitting there I let Lickitung back out of his Pokèball so I could talk to him. “Lick lick Lick!” Lickitung said as we sat down across from me. “So Lickitung, what should we call you?” I asked him. “How about Tony?” I asked him. He looked around like he was looking for someone, so that’s a nope I think. “How about Po?” I asked him. He tilted his head back and forth like he was confused. “Po is the name of a chubby warrior where I am from. Nobody suspects him to be a good fighter, but he suprised everyone and became the best!” I told him the story. Lickitung got very excited and started to roll around on the floor making excited sounds again. “All right then, you will henceforth be known as Po, the Pink Warrior!” I said in my best action hero voice. Lickitung stood up and copied me pumping his fist in the air.
Next on my list of potential new friends was right next door. “Po, can you see if your friend Tangela is here somewhere?” I asked him. “Lick lick Lick Lick” he said as he bounced along looking for Tangela. After 5 minutes, Po came rolling out the woods with some vines wrapped around me, and then he started to roll faster. All of a sudden, out of the trees, came flying a Tangela attached to the vines wrapped around Po. “Tanggggg” is all I heard as Tangela came flying through the air. “I gotcha friend” I called out as I ran to get under the spot where Tangela was going to land. “Tangggggg LA” is all I heard as I caught the heavy sack of vines. It knocked me right off my feet and I landed on my bum. Po rolled up next to me and started glowing… WAIT GLOWING!!! “Po you must have used Rollout when you pulled Tangela out of the trees!?!?!” I exclaimed as I watched my first Pokèmon who I got literally minutes ago already begin to evolve. Po got taller, rounder, more blobby, and Pokèmon began to emerge from the grass and trees to watch as he grew. Finally, Po stopped glowing and we could see his new form. A big pink blob with its tongue hanging out stood in front of me. “Po! You accidental genius you! You learned Rollout, and evolved into a Lickilicky!!!” I cheered him on as I ran over carrying Tangela. Gently, I placed Tangela down and gave Po the biggest hug of my life. He immediately began to play with his tongue while leaning into the hug. Then he did what he liked best and laid down on the grass and began to roll around making silly faces and sounds.

Once the shock of Po’s evolution wore off, I turned to Tangela to finally ask her what I had originally intended. “Tangela, Po here has officially joined me as my first Pokèmon” I told her while taking out Po’s Pokèball to show her. “I know Po is your friend and I would hate to take away one of your only friends. Would you like to become my Forever Friend too and come with us?” I asked her with a gentle smile. “TANG LA” she said and turned around facing the other way. “Well, I guess it was worth a shot. Sorry for bothering you Tangela. You can go back to your forest now” I said as I stood back up. As I was walking away with Po, I felt a vine gently wrap around my ankle. “Hmm? Is something wrong Tangela?” I asked her. When I turned around to look at her, she was looking at the ground and her eyes looked a little misty. I turned back around and went and sat next to her. “If you are going to miss Po, I will make sure to bring him out every day to play with you” I began to say. Tangela though, wrapped a vine around me and pulled me into herself. “Tangela, is there something wrong? Are you worried about Po?” I asked her. She shook her head, well her whole body really since it seemed all attached together. “Do you really want to come with me?” I asked. She nodded very weakly. “Tangela, I promise that if you come with us, that I will never leave you behind. Po and you will come with me and we will all be friends together. You will never have to worry about being alone again” I said getting a little teary myself. “La La” Tangela said with some questioning in her tone. “I promise! Cross my heart!” I said making the motion. Tangela reached towards my belt and pushed the second Pokèball with her vine. With a red light and bing, I held the Pokèball up in the air and screamed,”I CAUGHT A TANGELA!!!” All the Pokèmon who had come to watch Po evolve started cheering and calling out. Po started rolling around making sounds of joy again.
All three of us walked into the lab together, and Professor Oak dropped his clipboard on the ground. His mouth was hanging open, and he was pointing at Po. “WHAT POKèMON IS THAT?!?!?!?” He screamed. “Professor are you okay?” I asked looking a bit shook by the volume. “THAT GIANT PINK THING WITH THE HUGE TONGUE!!!! WHAT POKèMON IS THAT???” He yelled pointing at Po. “Oh, this is a Lickilicky. It’s the evolved form of Lickitung. It evolves when Lickitung learns Rollout and uses it succefully. Did you not know that Lickitung evolves Professor?” I explained and asked gently trying to calm down Professor Oak. “No! Lickitung has never been documented in Kanto as being able to evolve! Also, what is the move called Rollout???” Professor Oak said looking a bit crazed. “Oh right, you wouldn’t know that move yet. It is better known in the Johto Region. Lickitung is known to evolve in the Sinnoh Region, I am suprised that none of the regions have shared this with you?” I asked the Professor. “Austin, the other Pokèmon Labs refuse to share information unless they get something in return, and most of them refuse to share in the first place. Most regions dislike the other regions and keep to themselves” Professor Oak explained with his head in his hands. “Well, Professor Oak let me give you another shock” I said with a big toothy grin. “Nothing could shock me as much as this has right now…” Professor Oak said looking burnt out. “My other new friend Tangela here, who I have named Rapunzel, can also evolve once she learns Ancient Power. Ancient Power is a Rock move as well that is known in the Johto Region.” I explained to both the Professor and Rapunzel. Both of them stopped moving and fell to the floor. Professor Oak was on his knees now mumbling and looking at the ceiling, and Rapunzel was face down either unconscious from shock or in complete disbelief.
After 10 minutes of everyone calming down, Professor Oak looked ready to continue discussing. “Austin, we really need to start recording all of this so we can help our trainers and researchers catch up with the other regions…” Professor Oak said still breathing deeply. “Professor, how about once a day I write down a little bit and give it to you so we can focus on new information little by little” I offered. “You know what, I think that’s going to be the way to go” the Professor said while looking at the computer. “Also, it will give me time to prove my new information so no one can doubt us” I said thinking ahead. “Very good! That’s thinking like a researcher now!” Professor Oak said smiling. “Back to the task at hand, here is your Trainer ID, Badge Case, a Backpack, and here are some wagons to help bring the food back” Professor Oak said handing everything to me. “Professor, why is there 5 wagons?” I asked. “Oh, in all the excitement I forgot to tell you that Gary and Daisy wanted to join you as well” the Professor said. “Sure, the more the merrier I guess. Do they know how to get to Viridian City?” I asked. “Yes they do, and Daisy has her Pokèmon so she can help protect everyone as well” Professor Oak said while we all walked towards the front of the lab. “All right Professor Oak, I am heading out to grab the kids and then we will be on our way to Viridian City” I said as we all stepped outside. “Thank you Austin, and make sure everyone stays safe please!” Professor Oak said as he waved goodbye.
After we walked up the hill and over to where the Oak house was, we knocked on the door and waited. “Good Morning Mr. Austin!” said Daisy with a pleasant smile. “Good Morning to you too Daisy. Are you two ready to go?” I asked. “Gary! Mr. Austin is here and is ready to go!” Daisy called upstairs. “Coming!” Gary called back. “Come on out when you two are all set, and we’ll get this show on the road!” I said with a big smile. While we waited for the two of them to come out, I petted Rapunzel’s vines and tickled them to help her relax before we headed to Route 1. Just a few minutes later both of the kids were ready and we each grabbed a wagon to pull up the hill to Route 1. It was finally time to leave Pallet Town for the first time since I came here… What’s waiting out there for our little band of adventurers?
