Chapter 148

This is a daily reminder: You have 32 unallocated stat points

Alright, air pocket stored. The fish bladder had to be useful for something. I willed myself into the throne room. Said flits around unbothered by it.

“You have too many hang ups, thinking why it has to work a certain way for you.”

Not quite ready to define myself beyond mortal trappings, Said.

“As if you still are one. Your other half already has.”

I give her an annoyed look, but the air pocket is diminishing. Best not get distracted. I push the execute button. My senses shut off as I am no longer perceivable. My dungeon senses see that I am not here as well. So not the room itself.

  Sister, could you join me?

  -Sure.

I reappear next to her. She was in her cheating attendant form. No need to fill a fish bladder for her…half the air pocket left, less bitching, more testing. I hug her and execute the spell again. We both remove our presence this time.

-Seems it was because it was a boss battle then.

I undo the spell. We return to my couture. “Yes.” I will need to make adjustments.

  -Its a vacuum right.

  Hmm sure.

-So why not leave our hearing? Sound can't transfer anyways.

A cover spell that allows noises. That is absurd.

-It would be hilarious if it works.

  “Agreed.”

  “An ear fell off.”

I look at Lea and give her a huff. I get up from the spinning wheel and check on my two undead rabbits. They are in mithril cages, sitting there still. Their bodies continue to rot away.

“Not sure why you kept the things.”

I give Lea a wry smile. I wanted to know how fast they decompose. If their soul weakened any. So far only the flesh is falling apart.

“What if you fed it your blood?”

I look at her. Then to the two rabbits. I only really need one control. I put my hand over the left rabbit and separated a bit of blood over it. It landed on the spot that was missing an ear. The ear reforms half way, the skin is still grey, still dead. I turn to go back to my wheel.

“Are you really going to leave him with half an ear?”

I give Lea an annoyed look. Fine, another drop pulled from my blood. It always pinches when I do it. The ear finishes reforming.

Haven't had much blood movement since the slime change. Seems separating bits counts. I go back to spinning mithril threads.

Yosef ushered us into the viscount meeting room. It was just me and Magdeline. Red opted to continue weaving, to continue avoiding the issue. The marques was without an aide this time. Strange.

“[Countess], [Priestess]. Why only half?” The marques greeted us.

“Zind, you must forgive me for not trusting you but given your recent actions it was prudent to not have both my daughters be vulnerable.”

He winces at that, “I have come unarmed.”

“As have I but that means little on such a tier difference.”

I simply try our best to not engage in the staring match that has begun. The viscount attempted to start the conversation, “I'm sure we are all rather busy, I believe you had something to say, [Knight Commander].”

He looks like he has many things to say to Mags but he turns his attention to me, “You are to cease your interference with the procurement of textiles.”

I tilt my head confused, “Excuse me but I haven't—”

His hand crashes to the table, damaging it. The viscount winces but says nothing. I don't either, the knights have plenty of furniture to replace the table with. A surplus really. The viscount could probably get it replaced today if he asked. The thought makes me smile.

  “ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING?”

I reengaged with the conversation that apparently caused Mags to start laughing at an increasingly irate marques.

“Sorry, I was just thinking about how you could easily replace the [Viscount]’s table.”

This does not improve his mood. He looks down and sees the damage he has done. He winces, “Apologies Bradford, I will get a new one brought to you.”

The viscount grows pale and tries to decline the offer but I ask my question before he can come up with the words to do so.

“So why do you think I am interfering in your acquisition of textiles?”

“The various townships all refuse to ship materials here.”

Weird, I wonder why. Not something I was doing. I'm not some bleeding mastermind or something. It's Mags who speaks next, her tone mocking.

“Oh Zind, you blame my daughter for the fallout from your own actions. For shame.”

He looks annoyed at her again. I look up at her questioningly. She looks down at me and smiles.

“Adventurers would be needed to escort the shipments but as all the requests are labeled as being for the knights here, I very much doubt there are many takers.”

I can understand her mirth. It's being mirrored in my own face. It sours the marques even more.

“Fine, if you are not the cause then perhaps you can be the solution. Would you being willing to provide entrances to your—”

  “No.”

The marques's irritation grows again. The viscount is quick to admonish me.

“It is not polite to interrupt, Sara.”

Not like the marques hadn’t earlier. I sigh, “I don't want to waste the [Marques]’s time. I don't trust any knights in my dungeon, nor do I trust making entrances near knights.”

“I simply ask that you provide entrances to move the goods swiftly. I can have oaths sworn—.”

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

  “I am not your SLAVE!”

Mags's hand touches my shoulder. I look up at her. She has a patient smile. The blood red glow in my eyes faded. Damnit, we left behind Red because she was still agitated. Seems I was too.

“Sorry, I should go.” I returned to the dungeon before they could say anything.

  -----

I was rubbing my sister back, she had gone to her spider form to decompress. I offered the blood skin but she continued to abstain. Just like I have been. Mags tugged on our connection. I made the entrance appear in our rented room. The moment she was through, the entrance closed.

She comes to us then forms a chair out of dirt and sits down. She looks at us intently but says nothing. Is she willing us to speak first? Not very likely, my ghost is intangible and Violet is a spider of few words. Said on the other hand…is playing at sleeping in my nest. Mags gives a sigh.

“You tell me if you were planning something rash? Wouldn't you?”

She can feel our soul, that it is growing more upset as the days draws closer. The only answers we can give her are our sad smiles.

I was running the spinning wheel this time. Sister was in her mental mage form, her Maxwell figure visually matching mom this time. We wanted our gift to fit properly, afterall. This brought up a thought though. I ask her.

“The fire tail refuses to engage.”

  Do you know why?

“At first, I wanted the body to match Belna but Sencea is also a smithing influence. The tail won't engage if I try to emulate either.”

  “Both?”

She shakes her head, “I had the same thought but it still refuses.”

Curious, her tails always combined even without a clear picture. Is it because she is not acknowledging something?

“I'm not sure what it would be?”

Well you were thinking of a form that was both a smith and a tailor.

“Perhaps Lady Crafter needs to be a gnome with nae at the end of their name.” Said zips by with nothing productive to say.

Red frowns, but masters herself. She then splits apart. The ghost takes a moment but enters her again. She makes awkward faces before the ghost exits her body.

“No good.” Was all the ghost had to say.

“Ha, Lady crafter tried to be a gnome.”

I giggle at that. Red gave me a glare but it fell apart when a wry smile emerged.

As far as crafting goes, a lot of it happened in our dungeon. Perhaps you should aim to be monstrous.

  -----

I give Violet an annoyed stare. My ghost speaks, “I already have a spider form.”

“Human form, cat girl form, spider form, does Lady Crafter need more hints.” Said continues her screed.

“My sister is uniquely the dryad.”

My ghost was rather petulant saying it. It is met with laughter from Said.

  -Why not the fox then?

I am already the kitsune right now.

“She thought fox, not the many tailed slut.”

I give an annoyed look at Said. Monster fox huh. I merge with my ghost. The fire tail was selected. My feet shift, a padded paw that shifts my stance. I am perched on the balls of my feet. My leg becomes digitigrade. It all hurts. None of the other illusions had. I can feel hair follicles sprout across my body as my fur comes in. My hands become paws, my fingers gain retractable claws. Two new sets of arms sprout under my arm pit. The middle set has claws meant for weaving silk. The third have spinnerettes in their palms. My face grows a snout, it extends forward, my sharp teeth crowding it. My tail is a scorpion's tail, the better to intimidate with. There is no venom in it but the flame sac from the axen. I huff a breath as my form finishes shifting. An illusionary smock like Belna wore covers my front.

I tower over Violet, she looks at me and smiles.

  “No boobs.”

I just huff a laugh. It grows in a belly laugh. It reminded me of Belna. Violet's smile grows wider.

“You know it works, why not just rip it out already.”

Red looks up from her potion-o-matic. She gives an annoyed glare at Said.

“What is the troublemaker on about now?” Lea huffs.

The fairy zips to Lea face, “Lady Crafter made her machine with a core receptacle. She is just too afraid her fire core needs to be absorbed for it to return.”

I gave a look to my fairy. She knows that's not really why. It's only been a day since Red acquired her fire tail form. She is loath to give it up. Even temporarily. But there is an easy solution. I walk up to her and give her a smile.

-But then you won't have access to fire magic.

I give her a wry look as the core reaches my throat. Much as she had done, I rip out the core before she can stop me. My hands trembling, I hold it out. She catches it as my wound closes.

  -Thank you.

I smile at her as she quickly turns and places it into the receptacle. Far too much power for the machine but perhaps we can expand its use later. She places the materials inside and starts the machine. In six hours we should have another twenty potions to bottle.

  Sister, you should drink.

  She gives a wane smile.

  -You first.

Fine, I did just have to heal some trauma. I take a swig. Only a mouthful. No more than that. It's nice. Red copies me.

  We are hopeless aren't we.

  -Probrably.

I watch Qorth and Cecelia spar. Qorth spearwork was really coming along. She was not as fast as Cecelia but she was holding her own. I think Cecelia actually started to work up a sweat. It ends the same, Qorth being too exhausted to move.

“Hey sweetie, how are you feeling?”

I give her a shaky smile which just earns a finger flick. I rub my forehead. The smile I wore was more genuine now.

Sorry, a lot on my mind.

“Not going to let me hear your voice?” She looks at my ghost.

I frown, shrug and select the fire tail. She winces but I didn't want to put on airs of the mental mage nor show misperceived favoritism by being the spider. Prim and proper of the attendant wouldn't do either.

  “Is this illusion that terrible?”

“She can hear your bones cracking when you change next to her, ‘Excruciating to hear’.” Qorth murmurs.

  “Sorry.”

  “It's alright, sweetie.”

“I don't think things will resolve to allow Qorth to be in the tournament.”

“They haven't rescinded the invitation.” Qorth throws out as she still looks for her breath.

I look at Qorth, “Surely, they don't expect you to fight. It was a favor to me that they allowed your entry.”

Cecelia chimes in, “Once given, the knights would be loath to rescind it. Their disagreement is with you not Qorth.”

I had only assumed, so had Mags. We were going to leave before the tournament though.

-We can always do it after.

I'm not sure I can be that far apart.

-If not then it wasn't meant to be.

  Cecelia nudges me.

“Sorry I was conversing with Violet…”

  “Something wrong sweetie?”

I take a moment, my conversation with Violet reminded me. “Are you ready to be two, mom?”

That startles her, “Of course, I am rather annoyed you have been dragging your feet on this to be honest. When Magdeline told me you changed her eyes I was rather incensed.”

I give a chuckle as Violet appears next to me.

  “Ready?”

I nod, separating from my ghost. We hugged each other, which was joined by Cecelia.

My soul eyes flares with my sister. We watch as Cecelia is etched. As she becomes two. It was two new major boons for her. She uttered not a sound through the obvious pain. She falls unconscious, just like the others. Then she immediately wakes up.

  -Like a soft reboot.

The system is bad enough, nerd. She laughs at me as my ghost speaks.

  “How are you feeling mom?”

“Not exactly the most pleasant of feelings but I am fine.”

I smile at her. She closes her eyes for a second.

She opens her eyes and smiles at Violet, “It’s a lovely shade, sweetie.” She nods to herself. “I'm ready for you to turn me, Sara.”

I look at her shocked. So is Violet.

  “But—”

My ghost interjects, “You haven't even gotten your legs yet.”

She smiles, “I think I prefer you keep me like this, Sara. I can't very well show you how to be a proper Maxwell Lady if I am copying you, sweeties.”

Violet wants to say more and looks to Said. I combine with my blood tail as I step back. My horn grows out as does my sisters.

“[Supplicant] Cecelia Maxwell, do you wish to be as damned as us and revel in blood, to share my bliss and become a true daughter?”

  “True mom.”

I roll my eyes, “Ya well the script is getting rather confusing.”

  “We are true family, sweeties.”

I smile at that as Violet feeds her the first bit of bliss. Cecelia fangs grow in and her eyes become slitted like mine and Violet. That was all that showed. We hug our newest daughter…mom. The part of the soul she borrowed became part of her.
