“In Orindor there lies Calwenna, one of five regions. Calwen the goddess of fire grants those lucky enough with the gift of fire. Those blessed with her gift use it to defend themselves from Planar beasts. Infernal monsters that seep through portals to kill all they see like fire ants on a corpse.”
Breech the Reaper Smith
The sky was night and there laid a village that was wrapped around mountains. It had a thriving mine in the back. In front of the village lay a massive underpass. Then in front a forest that laid frozen in time. The trees were covered in a thick layer of snow and under constant barrage from heavy winds. In the distance the explosion was heard, groups of reinforced red robed soldiers were seen running around with glowing maces.
“Keep up the pressure.”
“Go go go.”
“Over there.”
The soldiers moved in formation running past dead bodies of their comrades. Few threw firebolts from their hand into a massive figure that towered over them as it ran towards them with heavy footsteps. It stood eight feet tall with brown skin half of its body covered in steel armor that looked torn in half. Its skin seemed to be packed with tight muscle. The beast picked up one of the soldiers tossing him into a tree, a deafening crack was heard. Another soldier punched in the face with his body ricocheting into the ground. A third smacked the beast with his mace and sprayed fire from his hand into the hulking beast before he got picked up and crushed in the hands of the beast. Its skin was steaming and the mace strikes seemed to leave a seeding brand mark. A volley of fire bolts were shot at the beast as more of the soldiers approached.
The beast darted back into the woods retreating as more of the soldiers gave chase. Another soldier saw the beast and was about to shout but was quickly taken down by a pale looking man in a suit. He had sharps that bit into the neck of the soldier. He got up hissing and wiped his face with a handkerchief. In his hand was a bone from a rib that was carved into a skinny knife.
“Mumbo run. The zealots are numerous and active tonight. Hurry, your size will give us away.”
The brute ran deeper into the woods while the Vampire went high running in the trees. Above them a zealot was seen riding a hippogriff. From their hands flares lit up the sky as the airborne unit seemed to be scouting below. The duo kept up their pace. Eventually the shouting went silent and they slowed to a pace as Mumbo let out a laugh.
“Hahn Hahn Hahn. I killed eight tonight. They are so fragile like sticks. I didn’t get to keep any to eat though. Yew did yyou have fun?”
The vampire landed on Mumbo's shoulders resting now.
“I did. Their fire hurts quite a bit but I’m too fast and the trees protect me as always. I need more time to make Thralls though. Still their numbers know no end and they keep getting more bold. It’s rare they go that deep. Maybe it’s time to leave and hunt somewhere else until we get stronger.”
Ahead of them a human figure was seen. It put both beasts on guard. Mumbo clenched his fists and Yew drew his knife both ready to attack. Ahead the moon light revealed the Silhouette. An old human man who was walking with a cane. His mouth not matching the words coming out of his mouth.
“Yes Yes. The Zealots and their fire remain troublesome as ever. Soon if we do good we will grow stronger. It’s what we all want. Our alliance still stands at least. Now we wait for Trein.”
The two calmed down hearing the man’s voice. Yes hopped off of Mumbo’s shoulder.
“You need to ditch the human form it’s hard to tell
you apart from the mortals that plague this land. It’s ridiculous that you choose to look like that, Hans.”
The man shrugged and smiled at them.
“Well what can I do. It’s my power. Should I not use it? Then I’ll be vulnerable. Now let’s go back to the usual spot.”
Together they walked in the forest, each creature constantly looking over their backs. When suddenly Hans stopped in the distance a purple light was seen as he grinned widely.
“Excellent! A portal lays ahead of us. Another ally for our cause. Come quickly before it runs off.”

The grey can stopped limping with his staff and broke into a light run as the other two followed behind. They all thought of what beast would noon their ranks this time. In a small opening a purple rift glowed a purple fluorescent light that hummed lightly. Yew approached it curious; he put away his knife and slumped both hands into his pockets.
Suddenly a human fell out. He had dark skin, and was bald with a goatee. Wearing midnight black armor. He had a note tucked into his chest. He laid unconscious on the ground. The trio of monsters looked surprised. Yew was the first to speak.
“A human? Out of a portal?”
The grey man walked forward kneeling over observing him. He held a hand over his body.
“How odd. Perhaps he is a mimic of sorts.”
The man saw the note and opened it up. He looked at it and it read.
“Tú ert veikr eins og hinir, Orindor mun vera vereug refsing fyrir tig”
He squinted his eyes and tried saying it out loud. More so confused he tilted his head.
“What is this language? It’s curious. I’ve never seen such a thing. It’s not common, that's for sure. Mumbo, let's take him with us. If he is one of us then we benefit with his company, and if he is an enemy we kill him.”
The brute walked over to pick up the man. Suddenly his eyes opened up before the brute could lift him up. Standing up he saw the three beasts before him and the man broke into a wide grin that showed his teeth.
“Heill, ek em Alceran.”
His words fell on deaf ears. He took a sigh and closed his eyes.
“I seem to be lost. You all are not what I remember. I am Alceran. I suppose now you all work for me then. Come show me to your base.”
He waited for one of them to respond. Yew was first to speak out, quickly wielding his knife while voice grew more irritated. While Mumbo took a violent step forward and Hans backed off into the darkness.
“Are you a mortal or a beast? That decides if we cut you down or not. Show your real form and show you are at least one of us.”
Alceran clenched his fist tightly, shaking lightly as a vein popped on his forehead.
“I am what I am. I am a human mage. I don’t know the rules of this land but I’ll take it my kind and continue to oppress the weak. Like you all.”
Yew finally had enough. He lunged forward with inhuman speed aiming for Alceran’s smug smile.
“Death to you Human. You’ll make a good thrall.”
Alceran still composed, his hands glowed purple he lifted one and brushed it against the air. Out of it he shot out an explosion of fire that rushed forward like a wave. It forced Yew to jump back and hide into a tree while Mumbo turned his body, letting his armor eat the attack. Alceran looked around, readying another attack. He looked in the trees to see Yew peeking from the side of a tree.
“Filthy Zealot just like the rest of them. We’ve fought your kind all night. Your fire isn’t a threat.”
Alceran put a hand to chin and spoke out.
“My kind? There’s been other versions of me here? Are they stronger than me?”
Mumbo immediately broke into a sprint towards Alceran. Ready to tackle the mage into a tree. The thought of his blood splatter made him excited. Yet Alceran held out his hand as his purple mana turned into a cackling lightning that rushed forward attacking the beast. The same steel armor Mumbo used to shield himself now turned into a lightning rod. He took a knee as Alceran stepped forward and punched the beast in the face twice. Once in the forehead and then the other in the cheek.
His brute strength made Mumbo lower his head. Alceran now stared into the vampire’s direction daring him to try and attack again as his foot stood on top of Mumbo’s face.
“You threatened me earlier yet here you are hiding like a coward. Watching as your teammate gets abused and beaten. I expected more from you, yet you cling to the shadows. I should’ve expected as much.”
From behind the grey man stepped out clapping lightly. He spoke in a now distorted voice. He held up a note in his hand.
“Human…no, Alceran. You are a curious one. You don’t seem scared to approach us. Do you know what land you reside in? Or better yet what does this language say? I won’t attack you.”
Alceran turned and took the note from the spirit's hand. His eyes scanned it and his face turned from a smug smile into an evil stare. He burned the paper in his hand letting it shrivel to ash.
“I don’t know what Orindor is. I merely remember a tower. It was tall and grand. Yet I was only meant for the first floor. It’s disgusting. Now I am here. In the snow. I do know I want to rule this land now.”
The grey man started walking away now digesting Alceran’s words.
“Come follow Alceran, we do have a small base. A small village we destroyed before It became too bothersome. Our leader Trein waits for us to return. He can decide if you are worthy to have or not.”
Mumbo got up and looked at Alceran with hatred for a moment. He had the urge to snatch the mage from behind and murder him. He lifted his hand but before he could finish, Alceran turned around his hands glowing purple. Without words being spoken he dared the beast to make a move. Mumbo looked behind Alceran to see Hans shaking his head.
“Mumbo don’t. He is a friend until otherwise. Let’s all play nice together. We have a common goal. Now come.”
Mumbo let out an annoyed growl and walked forward as Yew landed on his shoulder. Alceran followed behind. He stayed deep in thought.
“Monsters have claimed me. Now I remain alone in a mysterious world. Where am I? What tricks does this Orindor hold? Will I matter here, unlike my old home?”
He shook his head as the wind continued to batter him. Still he tried acting tough and hid his shivering body to his new comrades. He opened and closed his hand trying to loosen it after punching the beast in the face.
“That brute felt like he was made of steel. I wonder what other tricks this world hides.”
He let out a laugh while in deep thought. Making the beasts look behind them curious. Alceran noticed them and called out to them.
“Sorry. I’m just excited to finally get started. What is your boss like this Trein?”
Hans called out.
“He is a devil. An orange skinned monstrosity. He gathered us up and showed us how to get stronger. Planar beasts are always at war with mortals, the more we kill the stronger we get. He showed us how to live long enough to make that a reality.”
Alceran felt more curious.
“What defines a mortal exactly?”
“Anyone who originates from this world, they can harness Kii. An infernal power that fills this air. Mortals use it to dominate us and our items. They steal our magic and slaughter our kind. So we now do the same. Kill all mortals.”
