Chapter 12: Friends

“I can’t believe that it's finally Friday. So much happened this week, I thought Friday would never come,” said Alicia as she hung on Elena.

“Don’t you think you're overreacting a bit. I know we had that test on Monday, but after that, we didn’t really do much this week. And why are you hanging on Elena like you just been in a major battle?” said Shane, while he was walking next to Elena.

It was Friday now, and Shane was walking next to Elena and Alicia as they headed towards the front of the school, where they would meet up with Everett, Alexa, and Franco. They were going to wait for Nathan to pick them up in his minivan.

Today was the day Shane hoped would never come. It was Friday, and it was the day when Shane would tell his friends the truth about everything he had learned a couple of days ago.

If Shane was honest with himself, he still hadn’t fully processed what he had learned, but he knew that his friends had a right to know. He knew it would affect the rest of their lives, and he felt guilty about it. He would have preferred to keep this all to himself, but he knew his friends would find out one way or another. He knew that they would kill him for keeping this secret.

“Hey, Shane. You okay? It seems like you're worried. I know you want to tell us something important, but you don’t have to force yourself.”

The voice of concern didn’t come from Alicia; instead, it came from Elena as she looked at Shane and noticed that he wasn’t the same as usual.

“Yeah. I’m okay. I just don’t know what I’m going to say. It’s just really important.”

“Ok. Then, if you're okay with telling us, I’ll listen.”

  “...”

Alicia didn’t know what to say. This was one of the few times she couldn’t help a childhood friend, and it hurt her to see Shane carry the weight of this secret for the past couple of days.

As they arrived at the front of their school, they saw Everett, Alexa, Ivan, and Franco waiting for them.

“Hey Shane. Looks like you guys finally made it,” said Everatt as he was the first to notice them heading toward him and the others.

“Hey, Everatt, Alexa, Ivan, and Franco. How have your days been going?” said Shane as he looked at the three in front of him.

“I’m doing fine; I could be doing better if my annoying brother would hurry and come pick us up already.”

The first to respond was Alexa, as she looked annoyed at Nathan for not picking them up earlier.

“Well, I’m doing great. I’m just glad it’s Friday, and I can relax,” said Franco as he tried to avoid eye contact with Alexa, who was currently in a bad mood.

“I’m doing great as always,” said Everatt with his usual over-the-top tone.

“I-I-I-I-I’m doing okay,” said Ivan, who was hiding behind Franco so no one else would see him.

  “That’s good to hear.”

“So, what is this thing you been wanting to tell us?’ asked Franco as he looked at Shane.

“Sorry. I can’t tell you here. There is only one place where it is safe to tell you. Plus, I don’t think you’ll believe me if I just tell you, so I’ll have to show you too,” said Shane as he looked at all his friends.

“Who did you piss off. Why is there only one place where you can tell us?” asked Everatt.

“Sorry if I could, I would have told you here, I would, but I promised Alicia's dad that I wouldn’t show anyone outside of that area.”

“Don’t worry, we're with you. So, where is this location?”

“Well, it’s a cave that my dad and Alicia's dad found for this exact moment. It's about forty minutes away from here.”

“Wow, that’s far. Is there at least a place nearby that serves food?”

“Yeah, there's a burger place nearby. Alicia's dad showed it to me on Saturday, and the burgers there are delicious.”

  “Ok, that sounds good.”

“By the way, Shane, what about Mona, don’t you usually pick her up?” asked Elena as she looked at Shane.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“Oh. My parents are going to pick her up. They wanted to take her mini golfing as a prize for doing well in school.”

The person who answered wasn’t Shane; instead, it was Alicia.

“Yeah, they wanted to take her because she was doing great in school, and they were never able to say the same for Alicia, since most of the time she was barely passing.”

“Hey, are you calling me dumb?”

  “Yeah, I am.”

As soon as Shane said that, Alicia slapped him in the back of the head.

  “Ow.”

  “That's what you get.”

As the other watched Shane and Alicia bicker, they began to laugh.

As soon as they finished laughing, Nathan pulled up near the area where they were all waiting.

Nathan was driving a grey minivan that his parents gave to him and Alexa when they turned 17.

“Hey, guys. I’m here, so where are we going, Shane?” asked Nathan as he was in the driver's seat, waiting for the rest to enter.

  ***

Forty minutes later, as they arrived at the cave, Shane and Arthur went to on Saturday.

They all looked at the cave as if they felt a weird presence emanating from it. It was the same reaction that Shane had when he went to the cave for the first time.

As they entered, they saw the equipment that Shane scattered when he partially awakened his angel powers.

“So this is the place you and my dad went to on Saturday.”

“Yeah, it's a mess we didn’t have time to clean up since it was already late.”

“So what is so important that you could only tell us here?” asked Franco as he looked at Shane.

“Well, I guess here goes nothing.”

As Shane looked at his friends, he began to get nervous as he started telling the truth.

“So on Friday, when we were studying all together in the library, time froze, and I heard my father's voice. He told me to ask Alicia's father to train me to awaken powers I had.”

As they all looked at them, each had a face of confusion about what they were hearing. They couldn’t believe what they were hearing.

“I’m sorry, Shane, but this sounds way too crazy. And how does my dad fall into this?”

“Yeah, I thought this would happen,n so let me continue. On Saturday, I asked Alicia's dad if he knew anything about what happened to me, and he said that he knew the truth about my father’s disappearance. He said that my father was an Angel general and he had to fight a demon king and failed. Then he said that I was the only hope to stop him, and I needed to activate my Angel side.”

“Shane, please go slower. This is too much to take in. Are you saying that you're part angel and you had to activate your power?” asked Everatt as he looked at Shane.

As Shane looked at all his friends, he noticed they were all doubting what he was saying.

To show his friends that this was all real, he rolled up his sleeves to show his arm that still had the lightning marks when he awakened his powers.

As they all looked at Shane's arms, they were shocked to see the lightning marks. None of them expected Shane to hide something this big from them.

“Shane, what happened to your arms?” asked Elena as she began to move closer to get a better look.

“This happened when I awakened my angel side. It left these marks, but don’t worry, they'll be gone in a couple of days. They were way worse when I got them.”

“So, this power of yours, what is it exactly?” asked Nathan as he looked at Shane with concern.

“Well, it’ll be easier if I show you so stay there, and I’ll move back.”

As soon as Shane backed up 15 feet, he looked at all his friends. They all looked at Shane with confusion because they couldn’t believe what they were hearing.

“Bare your souls, Mika, and Enyo.”

As soon as Shane said that, the light in the cave began to flicker. And lightning moved through Shane's arms to form a katana in his right hand and a dagger in his left hand.

“These are a manifestation of my angel powers.”

As they all looked at Shane, they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. From their point of view, it seems like Shane just pulls out a katana and dagger out of thin air.

Seeing this, Alicia asked, “Shane, where did those just come from?”

“Yeah, Shane, what just happened?’ asked Everatt.

“Well, these came from my power. And I’m still only beginning to understand how to control them. Whenever I fight with them, lightning comes out. And last time I trained with them, Alicia's dad went flying towards that wall.”

As they all looked at the wall Shane was pointing at, they saw a crater. It was as if someone had hit a wall with a ton of force.

“Again, what does my dad have to do with any of this?” asked Alicia as she looked at Shane.

“Your dad is also an angel, and you also have power within you, Alicia. The same can also be said for Nathan and Alexa. They are part demon from their ancestors.”

“What?!” screamed Alexa, Nathan, and Alicia simultaneously as they heard that they had a similar power within them.

“Ok, I get why they also had to hear this, but why do I, Everatt, Elena, and Ivan have to know about this?” asked Franco.

“Well, since you guys have spent so much time around me, I can lend part of my power to you guys.”

“So this is what you were dealing with for a week, Shane. Just how much were you suffering keeping this all a secret?” asked Elena as she hugged Shane.

“I’m sorry about keeping this hidden from all of you. I just didn’t know what to say. Even now, I’m still processing everything that had happened.”

As Shane looked up, he saw everyone else looking at him. They all looked disappointed in themselves for not being there for Shane when he needed support.

“Hey, don’t look so down, guys. This is something I decided on, so cheer up, all of you. So, please don’t look so down.”

As Shane looked down, he saw Elena hugging him. It looked like she was never going to stop.

“So, Shane. I’m pretty sure we're all thinking the same thing. How can we help you?” asked Alicia as she looked at Shane with the same face of determination that he had a couple of days ago.
