060 DEVELOPMENT PROJECT PRESENTATION DAY

The study subject: Development Course Year Two.

  Student name: Rory Aisaka

  ID: 26042004-AR

  Seminar Room Nr.03

  December 5 2023 14:30

Faces that I’ve seen around the University but never paid attention until now. A woman in her forties with dark hair, bob cut and silver glasses. Another woman younger, with chocolate colour waves and distinctive nose shape. An older man whom I recognised as my physics professor Mr. Naomi. The fourth person was Mr. Karin, my development class professor.

Formal attire, blue blazers that were shared between teacher uniforms was equally shared by the people in the Academic Community.

These are the people who are going to grade my project.

All were sitting at the table right by the presentation space at the front. Having their front row seats by a big long table with black covers that touched the dark grey carpeted floor. Behind the tables, further away were the rest of my class.

Most of the eyes showed how nervous they were.

First years of development course students and third years also were invited to see these presentations second years are showing today. That did include that Shinichi Lawyet was here.

Faces like Rio, Dina and Marco also were there. Athena invited them to come.

There were also other people that were from outside the university. Researchers or representatives of business people, parents.

I noticed Reigen was also in here.

Other distinctive faces that I have not seen.

Of course, Itsuki has made his way here as well.

  I invited my mom too.

“Where do you see this project going?” A question was aimed my way as my eyes were looking down from the lit stage type of space.

The projectors lights shaded at me with right behind my back the presentation big screen. An open presentation last slide that allowed the audience to ask questions.

Judges were the only ones who could ask questions.

“My project's path will be craved by its users, which I expect to be businesses and Akasia with a goal of making a safe space for technology to grow.” I answered the thought that I had for the project in my mind.

Athena as my number two was standing very close to the stage. As this project is mine in the end, partners are supposed to stand very close at the side and help if needed.

She had straightened her hair and left it out of her normal high ponytail. Those hair truly were very long, closing at the end of her back.

The woman who asked me the question nodded.

“Rory…I was following the steps and guiding you for the finish. Tell me now…which part of the project you found to be hardest?” Mr. Karin was next to ask me a very deep question.

I looked at my development class professor now. He was not wearing his usual lab coat but a dark blue suit jacket. Just the same as Mr. Naomi.

In contrast he somehow looked even younger like this.

“The day when I came up with this idea, you were right there reprimanding me.” I said pausing and then continuing. “With your guidance I can stand here with my finished product that was slightly different from the first idea!” I gave my professor a smile followed by a nod, showing my thanks silently.

“We have seen your data but now…show your work!” The woman with the distinctive nose shape spoke up last.

Moving on to the second part of the presentation.

“My partner that I am collaborating with on this project with her amazing insight and research will explain this now.”

Athena happily came over to me.

“Hi all!” Athena nervously spoke up. “My name is Athena Keth from psychology department year two!” She introduced herself cheerfully.

A nervous microphone crunch against Athena’s clothes. She leaned in while taking the mic on the stand.

The first part of the presentation is gone now.

It was a slide of what I have developed, my findings and hypothesis. I had to explain what the project is without showing the project itself. I labeled it the anticipation part before the cookie is shown.

I specifically wanted to do it in this way to build people's expectations and ideas before I show it. Sano taught me this method as an effective way to entice the audience.

  A move Reigen had deciphered.

I moved away from the mic and turned over towards one of the camera’s I developed. With a tall stand, I moved it towards the centre of the stage. I didn’t place it in the middle but slightly on the left side, so it’s not at the front of the big presentation screen.

“I wrote up research for my partner. Every facial expression data. Using storytelling distinctive style of descriptions. Psychological meanings from A to Z.” Athena spoke in the mic while I was setting the camera up. “Rory said to do it my own way…so I did. I wrote her a diary that explains emotions. How emotions work, what they are!” Athena said.

I moved over to the side where my laptop was plugged and connected to the projector screen. My laptop stood on a tall standing table that reached my height perfectly.

Without much effort I removed my presentation from the big screen and opened the app with raw data.

People in the audience perked up seeing me open my app.

I didn’t have a distinctive design but a dark green screen with light green letters. The improvisation from old first computers.

  I like the aesthetic.

“Rory amazingly recorded all of my research and turned it into a code. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it for the first time but please all…look at the screen and video represented.” Athena now pointed at the screen proudly.

At the same moment she looked back, I pressed play.

A video recording from two days ago inside Eve’s, Athena's mother bakery shop.

It showed a regular interaction between people. In the specific scene were the girl that works in the shop taking a payment for a man’s order of a slice of a cheesecake and a coffee. Politely smiling at the client she turned over to make the coffee and prepare the cake in the carry bag. At that same moment a woman who wasn’t looking at her surroundings but her phone ran into the man. She angrily looked at the guy, who had a sorry expression. A girl behind them had a disapproving expression.

It was a clear situation where the woman was supposed to apologise not the man.

This clip was a perfect example that I can show the app's skill. I stopped it right there and then moved the mouse where the video was showing the clerks polite smile face.

As I clicked at the clerks face it showed a title.

  Subject One.

The data recorded from the findings and explanations of the information given to this database is believed to be a polite smile, then turning into a focus on the task.

Then I clicked on the second face, the man.

  Subject Two.

The data recorded from the findings and explanations of the information given to this database is believed to be a polite nod and smile. Turned into a frown and apologetic gesture of shame.

  Subject Three.

The data recorded from the findings and explanations of the information given to this database is believed to be a clear anger and annoyance.

  Subject Four.

The data recorded from the findings and explanations of the information given to this database is believed to be an expression of dissatisfaction and disapproval.

The room was silent as the data was shown on the screen.

I kept clicking from one point to another with intervals of space to read what the app is responding with. Even when I click on the words explained the database is able to describe and bring out all the data Athena has given me to input.

The data part was a lot of work. I would definitely think it was one of the time-consuming parts of the project. My overnight work days eventually turned into something I was able to show up proudly.

The malicious thumbs up at the very edge of the room. He was right at the back…Yuji…Yukari Winters was looking and smiling at me with one last smug smile. It was a very short moment but I saw it before he disappeared behind people.

I turned my attention back on the screen and clicked it the last time. Eventually I closed off the video space and opened up the connected screen that the camera was sharing and merged with the app. The camera at the stage turned on showing a small green light that it is recording.

Athena walked at the front of the camera and instead of facing the audience she faced the camera. Her face was plastered on the video on the presentation screen with a background of people in the back and judges. Athena holds her hand out with the mic.

I was done with setting up the app and moved over to get that microphone from Athena.

People seemed to lean in their chairs. Anticipation and different expressions worn by the people in the room. Most were interested and watched it very closely.

“Thank you for being a very nice crowd and listening intently!” I smiled at all appreciating the attention that was given to me and turned over to walk towards my laptop again. Standing behind the standing desk.

Mic made scratch sounds as I was moving over clicking at Athena's serious face. My fingers draped it to be more steady, left hand holding it and right one typing away on the screen.

“My partner will express different facial emotions and you all are supposed to look at the screen very closely.” I said, instructing what was happening next.

Athena showed different facial expressions, starting from a big happy smile to an angry pouting face, she even managed to do a really good sad and disappointed face. Different emotions described by my app. As I clicked from one to another, eyes in the room watched my project live.

It took us close to ten minutes but eventually we ran out of expressions my friend could make.

“That's the overall view of the app I have developed. As I said from my presentation the accuracy right now has grown to sixty eight percent for facial emotion and one hundred percent for facial recognition.” I said.

I had finished showing the work and turned the camera off.

Athena moved over to move the camera to be beside my laptop next to me.

Then I closed up the presentations and apps showing the main screen of nothing. It was the finish line.

“I will tell you a secret.” I said in the microphone. “One hundred percent for facial recognition comes from a base code I used to build the camera's function. I fed the data into the app and turned into a self learning machine that is now programmed to record and read facial expressions. I believe this to be an advanced type of security system!” I proudly explained the secret I did not say until just now.

Well I presented the data but the full description was left out until the last moment. For the anticipation, of course.

Some faces changed. Big eyes, some in the crows who understood what I meant looked fairly impressed. Mr. Karin did not show much emotion but he did slightly nod in approval. Mr. Noami was staring at me and listening intently, same as the other two women.

Itsuki in the distance smiled quite openly.

Rio grabbed Marco’s shoulder exchanging some words.

I gave a good closing statement and thanked the audience.

After that I moved on with my life. My development project is now done.

December week one big point now accomplished. Next steps were to move on to jump up the ladder of levels of material I need to complete to level up into the rest of the current second year curriculum and pass the test to get into the third year.

“Omg!!!” Athena grabbed me by the shoulders the moment we moved off the stage. They were shaking from nerves. “I was totally embarrassed by doing those expressions! You owe me one now!” Athena cried into my ear totally shaken by the experience.

“Don’t worry!” I replied, with my laptop and camera safely inside my hands. I was carrying off the stage because the next person was now preparing their presentation.

We got a ten minute pause and then the next project will start their show.

“You did a really amazing job Athena…” I changed my tone and gave my friend a genuine smile. “I truly thank you for your input and having this opportunity! I am glad we ended up as friends.” I said words that normally would never come out of my mouth until now.

  a chapter per week.
