Confinement

  Val: "The fuck?"

The fragile window, now filled in with a white hue, wouldn't budge. What had happened that night? Who was responsible for this?

  Val: "What the...?"

Not even the door gave signs of giving in. With his strength, he would normally be able to easily break the door with a good ol' kick, or punch even. In this instance, that would not work. After trying both exits for quite a while, he sat down on his bed, with his head in his hands He had many questions, though no answer could be given in his circumstances.

From outside, nothing could be heard. If he wasn't making any noise from inside, complete silence would befall Val. The only other possible way of getting information from the outside was the window, but the white glow stopped anything from being seen. The only light source in his room was the glow on the window, and the light it gave off was very similar to how it would be if it was the morning sunlight coming in. Val had the percetion that it was morning, even though he was still very tired, and eepy.

He thought first of all of what could've caused this.

Could it be that Wrath had followed them all the way here and had attacked? She surely would've explosively interrupted the village's peace and caused chaos instead of treating the situation with such delicacy. As he thought in silence, he could hear absolutely nothing. That meant that outside of his room nothing important was going on. The walls were flimsy, and he had had experience of hearing through them, even the smallest sounds. Like people walking outside, or people talking in the main square outside his window. None of that was happening in this moment.

What if it was some other enemy or entity? If Riney is really someone that important, like the head of a division of Angel Hunters, maybe someone could have some grudge against him. Maybe someone who wanted revenge. On this line of thought, many possible options were present.

And then a though crossed his mind. A thought that made his restless foot stop tapping against the floor. What if somehow, they had found out that he was an angel? They did mention that more than 3 people were necessary to take one head on. Since the only hunters remaining were the two brothers, it was totally possible that they had trapped him in his room to call for backup.

Val almost forgot to breathe. He wasn't quite sure if, given that they had found out, he felt happy, sad, disappointed, or a mix. He did not know what he was feeling or what he wanted to feel. All he knew is that when he thought of being found out, the lump in his chest grew heavier.

If anything happened to break this stalemate, he decided he would not act against it. But it wasn't a conscious decision. It was as if it was something he had already decided long ago, somewhat of a habit. Any other option didn't even cross his mind.

He would try to escape unless something happened before he was able to. That was his plan.

  --

With one more punch, nothing happened. The window seemed indestructible. He'd even tried breaking down the walls, but it was no use. While he searched for a way to exit, the thought that he had been found out did not leave his mind. The same lump made him heavy and sluggish. He desperately tried to figure out what his thoughts were on the matter.

Val: "What I'd think about it, huh?"

He threw a strong kick against the window for good measure. Laughing, he answered his own question.

  Val: "I don't even know."

His habit of talking to himself was returning. He would talk to himself about things like what he thought about a certain topic, or new things he had recently learned, or things regarding a task he had at hand. Slowly, he was returning to someone more similar to who he was before he read that book.

He sat back down on the bed, once again hopeless. What could he try next? He looked around his room, hoping that a big red arrow would point to his escape. Instead, the room was always the same, it didn't even show any signs of Val's hard work of trying to destroy it.

He was about to give up and surrender to Rineys' and Masakos' plan. He lay on the bed, defeated. Giving up was definetely the easiest thing to in this situation.

  Val: "Good run"

He tried to block the thought of trying to survive some more, hastily coming to a conclusion that there was nothing he could do. If there was nothing he could do then that would be that and he would be swiftly dealt with by Hunters. But by instinct, his head turned toward the wardrobe that still hadn't been opened. Who knows, maybe that would be the answer to escaping this room.

But of course, there was nothing more he could do, so he just gave up. It left a bad taste in his mouth. Again, he looked at the closed wardrobe, this time with a glare. But he turned around again, since there was nothing else he could do.

  --

The wardrobe was empty apart from separate compartments up top and down low. First, he checked the ones on the bottom, and while the one the left held nothing, the one on the right had a thick book inside.

Val almost jumped back, startled by it. He had experience with finding hidden books.

But, since the title said "BASIC MANA MAGIC" he noted it as safe. Picking it up, he brought it to the desk and slowly opened it, assuring himself that no definition was on the first page.

He quickly realized that finding and most of all making use of anything that could potentially be remotely useful was going to take a very long time. He flipped the pages, hoping to learn about magic.

As he read, he nodded, comprehending the text. He got up from his chair, still looking at the open page on the book, the looked toward the window. He raised his arm in front of him palm up, and closed his eyes. Slowly, reopening his eyes, he saw that there was a blueish aura around his hand. It also felt weird. Like something was passing through his hand, but he could also feel it around the hand. Like a glove that also occupied the inside of the hand. Val tilted his head, now convinced he was going to learn all about this magic thingy.

  Val: "Oh this is cool."

He shook his hand in front of him, then he held it with his other hand, assuring himself that the mana he had gathered had spread again. Then, he sat back down, to read. The fact that a book was in a place like this already was a big surprise, but the fact that it taught powerful things like these was something even more unexpected. He didn't have time to surprised right now, since he was too caught up in reading and learning.

He got up again, extending his arm like before. This time, he tried making a sphere out of mana and have it float over his palm.

Once he opened his eyes, what he saw was less of a sphere and more of some mana was detaching from the one on his hand. He had failed miserably!

He gave a good shake to his hand and swiftly retried, also giving another quick read to the instructions. Then he retried.

Over his palm, a round ball of mana was floating.

  Val: "Heh."

  He smiled with satisfaction.

  Val: "Now we're getting somewhere"

Getting ahead of himself, he turned his palm toward the window, trying to maintain the sphere form of the mana. He closed his eyes once more, and the sphere suddenly launched off his hand and toward the window. It dissolved before hitting the window, but even so, progress was made.

Vals' smile could better be described as a grin, as finding out these things and learning how to master them was exciting.

He sat down, and read anohter bit of his new book. After some researching, he pointed his finger at a paragraph and smiled. His eyes widened, as he found what he was looking for.

A complex structure, even more difficult because it had to stay separate from the body. It was listed as Mana piercing magic, which is exactly what could be useful in a situation like this one. Once he got up and faced the window, he closed his eyes. Above him, what looked like an arrow was slowly forming, out of mana. Once it was ready, he opened his eyes and looked at the window. Suddenly the mana-arrow departed from over Val and moved fast toward the window. When it made contact, it smashed against the window, and the mana structure folded on itself. What an epic fail!

Disappointed and frustrated, Val breathed out. He was not going to let this stop him.

He concentrated once again and the same structure appeared slowly above him-- But this time, Val leaned down and got on his knees, in pain. He held his torso in his own arms.

  Val: "What the... Ow!"

The feeling was an extreme sensation of loss, and it caused severe pain all across the body. Had he run out of mana for now?

  Val: "Huff..."

After a bit of lamenting on the ground, Val got up, and realized a simple concept.

Using this type of magic has it's limits.

  Val: "Guess not..."

He talked to himself, answering question he asked in his head out loud.

He sat down on the floor. The floor felt unusually hot. It was very hot, actually.

He got back up and looked down. Nothing out of the ordinary could be noticed by looking. He turned toward his door.

  Fire.

The door was on fire. And he had noticed now.

He stumbled backwards, trying to find balance with his hands. The opposite corner of the room had also caught on fire. The two fires closed in on him, and he didn't know how to act.

Simply, he was able to notice the glass of the window losing it's white glowing, that turned blue, until it looked similar to what had been on his hand before. The fire was close to him on both sides, and so he decided to take advantage of the weakened window to get out. He backed up as much as possible and then ran--

Th glass shattered as soon as it made contact with the angel. From outside, the inn was completely engulfed in flames, and the last room to be affected was his. As he fell from the secind floor toward the ground, he noticed what awaited him down there.

Many villagers were dead. He saw them, dead, some with no head, some cut in half. The scene looked similar to what remained of the party that had gone searching for the human Val had killed.

He was falling once again, not knowing what had caused this massacre, not even knowing if he preferred finding out or not.

But soon enough, he did, turning his head toward the left side of the square.

The whole village was burning down, and a certain small figure jumped left and right, trying to break the two hunter's guards.
