The vision that was too real

Kunal suddenly jolted awake in his bed, gasping for air.

His chest rose and fell violently. Sweat covered his entire body. His heart was pounding so hard it felt as if someone had tried to strangle him in his sleep.

He sat still for a moment, trying to calm himself.

“It was just a dream… nothing else,” he whispered.

He got out of bed and walked to the kitchen. Standing in front of the fridge, he grabbed a bottle and drank water straight from it. His breathing slowly steadied.

Just then, his phone started ringing.

The caller ID read: Mr. Singh – Head of Delta Force Department.

Kunal frowned slightly before answering the call.

  “Good morning, sir.”

Mr. Singh informed him about a new investigation. A four-member team would be assigned to a specific location. However, the full details and previous case files could only be accessed from the office.

After ending the call, Kunal glanced at the calendar on the wall.

Today was the last day of his leave.

He placed the phone down and walked toward the bathroom. As he washed his face, he stared at his reflection in the mirror.

  For a moment, he wondered—

Was that really just a dream?

The visuals still felt disturbingly real.

Lately, he had been experiencing strange flashes—visions that made no sense. They were unclear, blurred… as if someone was trying to tell him something but couldn’t reach him completely.

Suddenly, he felt a strange warmth around his right wrist.

  He looked down.

  The birthmark.

It looked unusual. Almost like a pattern rather than a natural mark.

As a child, he had once asked his parents about it. They had told him that when he was very young, a sharp object had accidentally hit his right hand, leaving a deep mark. But even then, something about that explanation never felt convincing.

  Now the mark seemed… alive.

For a brief second, his vision blurred again.

A small girl appeared in his mind.

Her face was unclear. He felt like he had seen her before, but he couldn’t remember where.

  Then another vision struck.

A young woman was crying. She looked at him and said,

“ you knew everything from the beginning… still why did you do this ?.”

  Kunal’s breathing became uneven.

Suddenly an arrow crossed through the girl's heart. Blood spread slowly across her clothes.

  “Kunal!” she screamed.

He rushed forward in the vision and caught her as she collapsed into his arms. Tears streamed down his face.

“I didn’t do anything… why don’t you believe me?” he said desperately.

As suddenly as it began, the vision ended.

Kunal was back in the shower.

  The water was still running.

  But he felt dizzy.

His body weakened, and he collapsed onto the bathroom floor.

  Time passed.

When he regained consciousness, everything around him was destroyed.

  The mirror was shattered.

Bathroom items were scattered across the floor.

  Water overflowed silently.

He slowly stood up, holding his head. He wrapped a towel around himself and walked back to the bedroom. His mind was racing.

  Was this still a dream?

  Or was this reality?

Just then, a horn echoed from outside the apartment.

  He looked out the window.

“Give me a minute,” he muttered. His cab had arrived.

He quickly changed into his uniform, gathered his belongings, locked the door, and stepped outside.

  Back in the bathroom,

Water droplets were still falling from the broken mirror.

On one remaining mirror fragment, something was written from the water droplets.

  “You are the only possibility.”

In another small shard, a shadow appeared almost as if someone else was standing there.

But no one was visible there.

  Silence.

  Then slowly…

The bathroom door creaked shut on its own.
