Our journey back to Pashtunistan was one of reflection and celebration. The world had embraced ending child imprisonment and replacing it with free choice in learning for the dumb and smart alike, and the future looked brighter than ever. But as we traversed the countryside, we found ourselves in an unexpected encounter.
As Misty trotted along a winding path, a figure stepped out from the shadows, his suave and debonair presence commanding attention. "Ah, what have we here?" he said, his voice smooth as velvet. "A group of adventurers returning from their global conquest? I must say, you've made quite an impression on the world."
I raised an eyebrow, taking in his sharp suit and confident demeanor. "And who might you be?"
He offered a hand, a charming smile playing on his lips. "Smart. John Smart, at your service. Brightish secret agent extraordinaire and all-around handsome devil."
Mizuno rolled her eyes, her holographic displays flickering to life as she scanned him. "Charms and good looks aside, there's a 90% chance he's caught a number of embarrassing transmissible diseases," she murmured, more to herself than to us.
Sassy, ever the friendly one, bounded up to him, her tail wagging enthusiastically. She licked his face, leaving a trail of slobber that made him chuckle. "Well, aren't you a friendly one?" he said, ruffling her fur.
Misty neighed softly, her eyes regarding him warily. I could sense her unease, but I wasn't about to let some smooth-talking secret agent rattle me. "So, John Smart, what brings you to our little corner of the world?"
He leaned against a tree, his posture casual and confident. "Oh, this and that. You know, secret agent stuff. I must say, I've heard quite a bit about your exploits. Quite impressive."
I crossed my arms, studying him curiously. "And what exactly have you heard?"
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
He ticked off points on his fingers. "Global education reform, taking down the United Smart Asses, a epic battle in Washington D.C. The works. You've certainly made waves."
Mizuno's holographic displays showed a map of his known whereabouts, tracing his movements and highlighting his encounters with various organizations. "He's been busy," she muttered. "And not all of his associations are above board."
John smiled, unperturbed. "Ah, Mizuno, ever the suspicious one. But tell me, what brings you back to Pashtunistan? Surely you're not done causing chaos and disruption?"
I grinned, shaking my head. "Oh, we're just getting started. The world is ready for a change, and we're going to make sure it happens."
As we continued our conversation, I noticed John talking into his wristwatch occasionally, his voice too low for me to hear. Something about his mannerisms seemed off, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
Suddenly, the ground shook beneath us, and a blinding light filled the sky. A giant space laser descended from the heavens, its beam cutting through the air with a sharp hiss. I barely had time to register what was happening before the laser struck, sending us flying in all directions.
I hit the ground hard, the impact knocking the wind out of me. As I struggled to my feet, I saw John standing calmly, his wristwatch still pressed to his lips. He looked up at the sky, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Well, well," he said, his voice barely audible over the ringing in my ears. "It seems our little chat has come to an end. Until we meet again, lovely ladies."
With that, he vanished, leaving me and my team to pick up the pieces of our shattered surroundings. The laser had left a crater where we had been standing, the earth scorched and smoking.
Mizuno's holographic displays flickered to life, showing the source of the attack: a massive spaceship hovering in the sky, its weapons systems humming ominously. "That's Dr. Genius' ship," she said, her voice tight with anger. "He must have been waiting for an opportunity to strike."
I nodded, my mind racing as I took in the extent of the damage. "We need to take down that spaceship. If Dr. Genius is involved, this is just the beginning."
As we mounted Misty and rode off, I couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal. John Smart had played us, using his charms to distract us while Dr. Genius launched his attack. But we wouldn't let this setback deter us. We had a mission to complete, and nothing would stand in our way.
