We were in the semifinals. Two more matches won, and the ultimate prize would be ours—control of the Empire of the Smart. First, though, we had to get through this match.

  We proceeded with our usual plan: ordering our fighters from weakest to strongest. For whatever reason, none in the Empire of the Smart could believe we'd use a strategy that dumb and simple. Time and time again, they had proven unable to properly counter it. Our first fighter was Sassy. Against her, the Realm of Hybrids had picked Echo, whose powers combined sonic booms and ice manipulation.

  The arena was a sprawling icy landscape, with platforms of solid ice floating in the air, connected by slender bridges. The crowd roared as Sassy and Echo took their positions, the anticipation palpable. Sassy's tail wagged excitedly, her eyes shining with enthusiasm. Echo stood calmly, her hands glowing with a frosty energy.

  The match began, and Sassy didn't waste any time. She activated Hyperactive Hunt, her speed increasing dramatically as she dashed towards Echo. The icy platforms creaked and groaned under her paws, but she barely noticed, her focus solely on her opponent.

  Echo, however, was ready. She raised her hands, and a wave of sound crashed into Sassy, a sonic boom that sent her staggering back. Sassy yelped in surprise, her ears ringing from the powerful blast. But she quickly recovered, her Friendly Aura kicking in as she approached Echo again, trying to turn the battle into a playful chase.

  Echo wasn't having it. She began to crystallize the water in the air, forming razor-sharp ice shards that rained down upon Sassy. The hyperactive puppy girl yipped in pain as the shards found their marks, drawing blood and leaving small cuts across her fur. But Sassy was undeterred. She activated Chaotic Energy, surrounding herself with a swirling vortex of chaotic force that increased her attack speed and reduced Echo's defense.

  With a fierce growl, Sassy launched into a Whirlwind Kick, spinning rapidly as she kicked out with powerful legs. The force of her kicks created a vortex of debris and ice shards, pushing Echo back and disrupting her concentration. Echo staggered, her ice crystallization faltering as she struggled to maintain her focus.

  Seizing the opportunity, Sassy pounced high into the air, executing a perfect Playful Pounce. She came down with a powerful thud, stunning Echo briefly and initiating play. But Echo was quick to recover, and she countered with another sonic boom, sending Sassy flying back through the air.

  Sassy landed hard on one of the icy platforms, her body aching from the impact. But her spirit was unbroken. She activated Playful Pursuit, increasing her movement speed and that of her allies, while slowing Echo down. With a burst of speed, Sassy dashed forward, her eyes locked onto her prey.

  Echo, however, had other plans. She began to manipulate the ice beneath Sassy's paws, causing it to shift and crack, trying to throw the hyperactive puppy off balance. But Sassy was too agile, too full of energy to be deterred. She leaped and bounded from platform to platform, her Bouncy Chase skill allowing her to move with exhilarating speed and joy.

  The battle raged on, a symphony of sonic booms and ice shards clashing with chaotic energy and playful tackles. The crowd watched in awe as the two fighters danced across the icy arena, their movements a blur of speed and power.

  Finally, Sassy saw her opening. Echo had overextended herself, her ice manipulation leaving her vulnerable. Sassy seized the opportunity, dashing in for a Playful Tackle, wrapping her front paws around Echo and initiating play. With a fierce growl, Sassy then activated Puppy Love, unleashing a wave of adorable puppy energy that washed over Echo. But just as the hybrid fighter's expression softened, her eyes glazing over as she fell under the charm of Sassy's skill, the ice shattered beneath her feet to a Sonic Boom she had just enough thought left to cast. She fell out of range of Sassy's aura and recovered herself.

  Echo didn't waste the opportunity. She followed up with Icy Grapple, shooting out a line of ice that latched onto Sassy and pulled her towards Echo. Sassy struggled to free herself, but Echo's grip was tight, and she began to manipulate Sassy's position, pulling her into a vulnerable stance.

  With Sassy secured, Echo activated Glacial Stride, increasing her movement speed on the icy surface as she began to circle Sassy, her hands glowing with a deadly combination of sonic and ice energy. She chanted softly, her voice echoing ominously as she prepared to deliver the final blow.

  "The end is nigh, little puppy," Echo said, her voice cold and calculating.

  Sassy, sensing the imminent danger, struggled with renewed vigor, but Echo's grip was unyielding. Echo raised her hands, and a massive sonic boom erupted, combined with a blast of ice crystals that created a shattering explosion around Sassy.

  The crowd held their breath as the shockwave rippled through the arena, leaving a cloud of ice and debris in its wake. Slowly, the dust settled, revealing Sassy lying motionless on the ground, her body battered and bruised. Echo stood victorious, her chest heaving with exertion, a smug smile playing on her lips.
