Kaiden and Naō stepped out of the Solarium, greeted by the warm glow of the midday sun filtering through the towering buildings of Sunveil. The streets pulsed with life, mixing with the metallic tang of molten iron from a nearby blacksmith. Animated conversations filled the air of players bartering with NPC merchants, others debating their latest loot, and some simply soaking in the game’s immersive world. Kaiden let his eyes wander across the vibrant stalls and intricate architecture. Despite the charm of the town, the weight of their mission loomed over him like an unspoken specter.
“Alright,” Naō said, pulling up his HUD. “Let’s go over our current resources.”
Kaiden nodded and did the same, his interface flickering to life. Naō swiped through his own menu before speaking up. “So, my starting skills are: Toxic Mist: A weak Damage-Over-Time (DOT) skill that has a chance to poison an enemy, Panacea: A minor self-heal that restores a portion of my SP, and Vital Sap: Heals one party member for a small amount.”
Kaiden rubbed his chin. “That’s not bad. Definitely useful if we get into trouble.”
“Yeah, but I’ll need stronger skills soon,” Naō admitted. “I can’t do much damage, and my healing is weak for now.”
“Don’t sweat it, that’s what grinding is for,” Kaiden informed him. “We’ll get you leveled up in no time.”
The two then checked their current Verdant Coins, the currency used in-game. “We don’t have much,” Naō noted. “Should we check out the shops and see if we can upgrade our equipment?”
Kaiden shook his head. “Nah. Most starting areas only have beginner gear or minor upgrades to what we already have. We should save our currency to purchase better equipment in the next town.”
Naō nodded in agreement. “Makes sense. You sound like you’ve played a lot of MMOs.”
Kaiden smirked. “Yeah. Me and Alex played dozens of ‘em throughout the years.”
Naō didn’t press the subject further, sensing the heaviness behind Kaiden’s words. Instead, he turned toward the large quest board in the center of Sunveil. “Oh, There’s the quest board. Our main mission indicator says we should check it out.”
They approached the board, the parchment-like interface shimmering with available quests. Kaiden scrolled through a few before selecting the one to advance the main quest line titled, “Karma Farming.”
[Quest Accepted: Karma Farming Help a local farmer collect special seeds to prevent his crops from mutating under the sun’s influence]
Their HUDs updated with a quest marker, guiding them to the farmstead on the outskirts of town. As they approached, they were waved down by two NPCs; a farmer and his wife.
“Ah, two Dayslayers. Just what we need. Can you please offer us your service?” the farmer asked, his voice lined with urgency.
Kaiden raised an eyebrow. “Did they just acknowledge both of us?”
Naō nodded. “Yep. Dialogue for NPCs change in this game depending on if you’re running solo or in a party.”
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“That’s pretty cool,” Kaiden admitted.
The farmer went on to explain his dilemma. “I need Tether Seeds that drop from Snareweed Sprouts in the Evergrove Forest. These seeds delay the rapid mutation of crops under the sun’s rays. Without them, I won’t be able to keep up with demand.”
A quest prompt appeared in their HUDs:
[Do you accept the quest?]
[Accept] [Decline]
Kaiden and Naō both tapped Accept, and their logs updated with a 0/10 Tether Seeds Collected tracker.
“Thank you, Dayslayers,” the farmer said. “Be careful the Snareweed Sprouts are tricky little things.”
With their goal set, the duo left Sunveil, taking the path toward Evergrove Forest, where their quest objective awaited. But rather than heading straight there, they decided to grind a bit on the road, ensuring Naō could level up before facing stronger monsters.
[Sunveil Outskirts]
The open fields near Sunveil were filled with lower-level monsters, making it an ideal training ground. As they ventured out, the surrounding environment pulsed with vibrant flora, though many of the plants were, in fact, hostile creatures waiting to strike.
From the grass, several plant-based enemies emerged:
Rootling (Level 3)
Mire Blossom (Level 4)
Snaproot (Level 3)
Kaiden gripped his scythe. “Alright, you remember the basics?”
Naō nodded, readying his stance. “Yep. All plant-based monsters have Cells, which act as a shield. Once we destroy their Cells, we can target the Stem, their weak point, and take them out.”
Naō readied a vial in his hand, swirling the liquid inside.
“Perfect, let’s make short work of these guys.”
Kaiden dashed forward, delivering a clean strike to the Rootling, chipping away at its Cells [-15 RPD]. The creature recoiled and countered with a whipping strike [-12 LP], but Kaiden held firm. Naō hurled a Toxic Mist vial at the Mire Blossom, but as soon as the fumes spread, a message flashed across his HUD: [Ineffective: Target is Immune].
Naō frowned. “That didn’t work?”
Kaiden swung at the Snaproot, breaking through its Cells [-20 RPD], exposing the stem. “Not all plant monsters react to poison the same way. Just focus on healing.”
Naō nodded and tossed a vial of Vital Sap at Kaiden [+10 LP], keeping him steady. Meanwhile, Kaiden used Thorned Strike, severing the Rootling’s Stem [-35 LP], eliminating it in a burst of pixels
[Experience Gained: 18].
The Mire Blossom lashed out with a cloud of mist, impairing Kaiden’s vision temporarily [Accuracy -10% for 15 sec]. A hazy gray cloud surrounded his vision. Kaiden gritted his teeth and took a defensive stance. “Naō, got anything to counteract this?”
Naō scrolled through his limited skillset. He swiftly uncorked a new vial and tossed it at Kaiden’s feet. A faint, shimmering mist surrounded him as the effect took hold. [Temporary Resistance Buff: Status Effects Duration -5 sec].
Kaiden blinked as the mist cleared slightly. “That helped, thanks.”
Kaiden pushed through and struck down the Mire Blossom [-40 LP], breaking its stem and causing it to collapse into shimmering data [XP Gained: 22].
As the last Snaproot lunged at Naō, Kaiden intercepted it with a well-timed Vine Step, dodging the attack and countering with a clean execution [-30 LP]. The creature shrieked before disintegrating [XP Gained: 20].
A chime rang in Naō’s HUD, signaling his level-up.
