Its feet, root-like and jagged, dragged grooves into the earth. The cell holding Liri pulsed in rhythm with its steps, vines tightening like a heart skipping beats. Petals along the creature’s back opened slowly, releasing threads of gold-lit pollen that shimmered in the stale air.
Kaiden didn’t wait.

Power surged through him like a black tide. His body blurred at the edges, dark-water shadows writhing beneath his skin. His scythe elongated, blades sharpening with arcs of sapphire. The air around him warped.
The Warden screeched and charged. Kaiden launched forward.

A black flower unfurled in his UI. Petals spiraled around four glowing paths. Each one labeled with a role name. Kaiden hovered over the DPS route.

Another flickered beneath it.
“… No one could’ve predicted what it cost them.”
A final entry surfaced in corrupted script:
“If they rise, let them remember who let the sun in. If they fall… let this echo reach those who remain.”
Kaiden’s eyes narrowed. Even Naō peered at the system messages in confusion.
“What is that all supposed to mean anyway?” Naō asked.
Kaiden shrugged. He had no idea, and the weight of something important was beginning to unravel.
Kaiden took one more exhale. He could feel the same brain zap and an exhausting sensation, as he had many times when the game winded him out. “...Aw, man. Naō... I think... I'm not really feeling so great. Catch you...later..." He tried to finish his sentence before passing out.
Naō called out for him as his consciousness began to fade away.
His body in the real world was giving out, as he collapsed on the ground.
