[Location: Twilight Expanse Approaching Unseelie Court]
[Distance to Unseelie Court: 8 km → 3 km]
The forest changed as they rode deeper into the Expanse.
The trees grew taller, their trunks wide as houses and their canopies disappearing into darkness above. Purple-flowering vines no longer just wrapped around branches; they formed entire structures of archways and bridges. Giant platforms suspended between trees where shadowy figures moved.
The bioluminescence intensified. Like the forest itself was watching them with a thousand glowing eyes.
[Environmental Effect: Deep Court Territory]
Unseelie Presence: Concentrated
Ambient Corruption: +2% per hour (negated by resistance)
Stealth Detection: Increased
Kaiden’s Duskguard Carapace responded to the environment. The green-gold veins glowed brighter, and the violet threads from the Unseelie Crest seemed to drink in the surrounding energy.
[Corruption Resistance Active: 25%]
[Ambient damage negated]
“Anyone else feel like the forest is alive?” Naō asked quietly.
“It is,” Liri said. “The Court doesn’t just exist in the forest. It is the forest. Everything here is connected.”
The path widened into what had once been a road. An ancient stonework covered in moss, but maintained enough to be passable. Other mounts’ tracks were visible in the soft earth. Players had been through here recently.
[Point of Interest: Court Approach - Main Gate]
Distance: 2.8 km
“Main gate,” Ironstride read from the map marker. “Probably a checkpoint.”
“Do we have entry clearance?” Naō asked.
Liri nodded. “I’m a daughter of the Court. They’ll let us pass. But…” She hesitated. “There will be questions. About where I’ve been. About the Seelie prison and about you three.”
“Will they be hostile?” Kaiden asked.
“No. Not hostile. But scrutinizing.” Liri’s fingers tightened on the raptor’s neck ridge. “The Unseelie don’t trust easily. Especially not Dayslayers who arrive with a lost daughter and Seelie blood on their weapons.”
“We don’t have Seelie blood on our weapons,” Naō pointed out.
“Not in a manner of speaking,” Liri clarified. “You’re aligned with us now. That makes you enemies of the light Court in their eyes.”
[Faction Status]
Unseelie Court: Friendly (+850)
Seelie Court: Hostile (-1,240) [Locked]
Verdant Covenant: Honored (+1,680)
“Friendly standing,” he confirmed. “Should count for something.”
They rode in silence for another few minutes. The forest sounds changed. There were fewer insects, and distant whispers. Voices that might have been wind through leaves or might have been something else entirely.
Then the gates appeared.
Two massive trees that had grown toward each other, their branches intertwining to form an archway thirty feet tall. Thorned vines wove through the branches in intricate patterns, and purple flowers bloomed in clusters that pulsed like heartbeats.
Four guards stood at attention. NPCs in dark armor. Their weapons were spears wrapped in the same thorned vines as the gate, tips glowing with violet energy.
[NPC: Unseelie Gate Guard]
Level: 18
Faction: Unseelie Court (Elite)
As they approached, all four guards shifted, spears coming to a ready position.
The party dismounted about twenty feet from the gate.
One guard stepped forward; taller than the others, with a helmet that curved into antler-like protrusions. His nameplate read Captain Morrigan.
“State your purpose, Dayslayers,” he said. His voice was formal but not unfriendly.
Before Kaiden could respond, Liri came forward.
The moment the guards saw her, their posture changed. They lowered their spears low slightly. The Captain’s eyes widened behind his helmet.
“Lady Liri?” His voice cracked with something between shock and relief. “The Court has searched for you for quite some time. Your return is most welcome. The Queen will wish to see you immediately.”
“I know,” Liri said quietly. “These Dayslayers freed me. From Seelie captivity.”
The guards’ expressions hardened at the word ‘Seelie.’
“They kept you in the light Court?” Captain Morrigan asked, with controlled anger.
“Yes. They would have kept me there until…” Liri trailed off, then looked back at Kaiden. “Until these three came. They chose to help me. Even knowing it would cost them access to the light Court.”
The Captain studied them his gaze lingering on Kaiden’s armor.
“You bear Court markings,” he observed. “Earned or gifted?”
“Earned,” Kaiden said. “We’ve been fighting in Unseelie territory for some time.”
“And you freed Lady Liri from Seelie imprisonment.” The Captain nodded slowly. “The Queen will indeed wish to see you.” He gestured to the gate. “You are granted entry to the Outer Court. Do not stray from the main paths without escort. The deeper territories are restricted.”
[Faction Status Update]
Unseelie Court: Friendly → Honored (+1,200)
New Access: Outer Court (Full access) | Inner Court (Escort required)
The gates opened. The branches unweaving, revealing the path beyond.
Where the light Court had been all golden sunlight and pristine gardens, the Unseelie Court was twilight and wild growth. Buildings grew from the trees themselves from organic architecture that blurred the line between construction and cultivation. Bridges spanned between levels, some made of woven vines, others of dark stone.
The lighting came from everywhere and nowhere, bright fungi, glowing flowers, and floating orbs. Everything cast in shades of purple, blue, and deep green.
NPCs and players mixed throughout the Court. The NPCs here were different from anywhere else Kaiden had seen. Some had skin in shades of twilight; deep blues, purples, even blacks.
The players were mostly Level 16-19 range, all clearly Unseelie-aligned based on their gear. Some players had FC’s, houses, and apartments in the area. A few glanced at Kaiden’s party curiously as they passed.
[Location: Unseelie Court - Outer Ring]
[Zone Type: Major City Hub]
[Services Available: Vendors, Trainers, Quest Givers, Bank, Auction House]
“It’s beautiful,” Naō said quietly.
In a way the Seelie Court hadn’t been, where the light Court had felt like a museum, the Unseelie Court felt alive.
Liri’s entire demeanor had changed. Her eyes glowed brighter with warmth.
“Home,” she whispered.
Captain Morrigan led them through the Outer Ring’s main plaza. A circular courtyard where dozens of players gathered around quest boards, vendors, and crafting stations. The architecture spiraled upward, levels upon levels of platforms and walkways leading toward the Court’s center.
At the center, rose the Throne Spire. It was a massive tree that dwarfed everything around it. Its trunk was easily a hundred feet wide, and its branches spread across the entire Court like a protective canopy. Glowing violet flowers bloomed along its length, and at its base, Kaiden could just make out an entrance.
“The Queen resides in the Throne Spire,” Captain Morrigan explained. “You will be granted audience once Lady Liri has been received.” He stopped at the base of a wide staircase that led upward. “I must take Lady Liri to the Inner Court now. You three may explore the Outer Ring freely. Do not attempt to enter restricted areas without permission.”
“How will we know when the Queen is ready to see us?” Ironstride asked.
This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.
“You’ll know,” the Captain said simply. Then to Liri: “My lady, if you would follow me.”
Liri looked back at Kaiden. There was something in her expression that was like relief at being home mixed with uncertainty about leaving the party.
“Go,” Kaiden said gently. “We’ll be here when you need us.”
She nodded, then went after the Captain toward the Inner Court gates.
Then it was just the three of them, standing in the middle of the Unseelie Court with no immediate objective.
[Quest Updated: Child of the Bloom]
Status: Liri has been returned to the Unseelie Court
Progress: Awaiting audience with the Queen
Naō pulled up his map. “So. We’ve got time to kill. This place has to have vendors. Maybe a trainer or two.”
“And a bank,” Ironstride added. “I need to clear inventory space.”
Kaiden checked his own inventory, “Yeah. Let’s resupply.”
They split up, agreeing to meet back at the main plaza in thirty minutes.
Kaiden found the Unseelie merchant quarter tucked into a grove of smaller trees on the Outer Ring’s eastern edge. Stalls lined the pathways, each specializing in different goods.
He passed armor vendors, weapon smiths, potion sellers, and crafting material traders. But what caught his attention was a stall tucked into a shadowy alcove, marked with a sign that read:
Twilight Acquisitions
Rare Materials | Faction Items | Special Requests
The vendor was an NPC female, with deep purple skin and bright starlight eyes. She looked up as Kaiden approached.
“Dayslayer,” she greeted. “New to the Court?”
“Just arrived,” Kaiden confirmed.
“Then you’re in luck. I deal in rare goods. Things most vendors won’t touch.” Her eyes flicked to his inventory. “I see you carry items of interest. The Veil Fragment, for one.”
Kaiden pulled it from his inventory.
[Veil Fragment]
[Quality: Rare]
[Type: Faction Material]
[Description: A shard of crystallized sunlight from a defeated Veil Hunter. Proof of victory against Seelie enforcers.]
“Veil Hunters are Seelie’s answer to defectors,” the vendor explained. “They hunt those who turn against the light Court. The fact that you killed one means you’re either very skilled or very lucky.” She smiled. “I’ll pay well for that fragment. Or trade it for something useful.”
A trade window appeared.
[Trade Offer]
Give: Veil Fragment
Receive (Choose One):
→ 450 Verdant Coins
→ Shadow Weave Cloak [Rare] (+12 AGI, Stealth Detection Resist +15%)
→ Duskbound Sigil Ring [Rare] (+10 ATK, Shadow Damage +8%)
Kaiden considered. He already had two rings equipped. The coins were tempting, but the cloak...
[Shadow Weave Cloak]
No DEF bonus, but the AGI increase and stealth resistance could be useful. Especially if more Veil Hunters came after him.
He selected the cloak.
[Trade Complete]
[Item Acquired: Shadow Weave Cloak]
The cloak materialized in his inventory. A dark fabric with violet embroidery along its edges. He equipped it.
His character model updated, the cloak settling over his shoulders, flowing down to just above his knees.
[AGI: 79 → 91 (+12)]
“Good choice,” the vendor said. “The Court values those who move unseen.”
Kaiden browsed her other wares: crafting materials, consumables, and one item that caught his eye:
Court Writ of Passage [Key Item]
Cost: 800 Verdant Coins
Effect: Grants temporary access to Inner Court areas without escort
“What’s the Inner Court like?” he asked.
“Restricted,” she said. “Only Court members and honored guests are allowed beyond the Outer Ring without permission. The Writ grants you one day of free access. Useful if you need to reach trainers, elite vendors, or hidden quest givers.”
Kaiden had 563 coins. Not enough for the Writ yet. He bookmarked it mentally.
He sold some accumulated junk materials that had been clogging his inventory since the Bramble Veil and gained another 120 coins.
[Verdant Coins: 683]
Still not enough. He’d need another quest or two.
As he turned to leave, the vendor called after him. “One more thing, Dayslayer. You carry something... old. A weapon that remembers the Court.”
Kaiden stopped. She was talking about the Splintered Rake.
“Yeah,” he said slowly. “Got it from an old man. He said it needed a special blacksmith.”
“There’s a smith in the Inner Court, names Thornforge. She specializes in old Court weapons and relics from before the divide. If anyone can restore that rake, it’s her. But her services aren’t cheap. And she doesn’t take coin.”
“What does she take?”
“Favors, quests, proof of worth.” The vendor shrugged. “The Court works on reputation, not currency. Show her you’re valuable to the Unseelie, and she’ll consider your request.”
[Quest Hint Received: The Ruined Rake]
Objective: Gain access to Inner Court and locate Thornforge
Reputation Required: Honored or higher
Kaiden nodded his thanks and left the stall.
He met Naō and Ironstride back at the main plaza. Naō had restocked his entire alchemy supply and bought three new recipes. Ironstride had upgraded her shield with a reinforcement enchantment.
“Find anything good?” Naō asked.
Kaiden showed them the Shadow Weave Cloak. “Traded the Veil Fragment. Also, there’s apparently a blacksmith in the Inner Court who might be able to fix that old rake.”
“The one from the old man?” Naō asked. “That’s been sitting in your inventory for a while now.”
“Yeah. Figured it was time to do something about it.”
Ironstride raised an eyebrow. “There’s a rake?”
“Long story,” Kaiden said. “From when Naō and I were sneaking into the Seelie Courts. Old NPC gave it to us in exchange for helping him. It’s been too damaged to use.”
[Quest Update: Child of the Bloom]
The Queen will see you now.
Report to the Throne Spire - Inner Court
A golden waypoint appeared on their maps, leading toward the massive tree at the Court’s center.
“Here we go,” Naō muttered.
They followed the waypoint through increasingly ornate sections of the Court. The Outer Ring gave way to the Middle Ring a fewer players, more NPCs, all with higher level tags. The architecture here was more refined, less wild but still organic.
Finally, they reached the Inner Court gates.
Two guards stood watch, both Level 20, elite classifications. But when Kaiden’s party approached, the guards simply opened the gates without question.
[Faction Access Granted: Inner Court]
[Your reputation precedes you]
Beyond the gates, the Throne Spire rose before them.
Up close, it was even more massive. The entrance was a natural opening in the trunk, an archway formed by the tree’s own growth. Glowing fungi lined the interior, casting everything in soft purple light.
They stepped inside.
The interior was a single massive chamber that spiraled upward through the tree’s hollow core. Staircases carved from wood thaf wound around the interior walls, leading to higher levels. And at the chamber’s center, on a throne grown from roots and flowers, sat the Queen.
Queen Morvanna of the Unseelie Court
[Level: ???]
[Title: Sovereign of Shadow]
[Faction: Unseelie Court - Absolute Authority]
She was tall at least nine feet even seated. Her skin was the color of deep purple fading to black. Her hair was a cascade of flowering vines throughout. Her eyes glowed with amber light, ancient and knowing.
Liri stood beside the throne, looking small beside the large woman and throne.
Captain Morrigan stood at attention to the Queen’s right. Other Court NPCs; advisors, guards, attendants, lined the chamber’s edges.
The Queen’s gaze settled on Kaiden’s party as they entered.
“So,” she said, her voice like wind through leaves, “these are the Dayslayers who freed my daughter.”
Kaiden stepped forward, instinct telling him to be the one to speak. “Your Majesty.”
“Nyte,” the Queen said, using his in-game name. “Bearer of the Dusk Photosphere and aligned with shadow.” Her eyes flicked to Ironstride. “Ironstride, Bearer of the Bastion Photosphere.” Then to Naō. “Mixmaster, an Alchemist. Keeper of balance.”
She knew about the Photospheres. Both of them.
“How did you....” Kaiden started.
“The Court knows many things, young bearer.” The Queen’s expression was unreadable. “Especially about those who carry artifacts that should not exist in Dayslayer hands.”
A chill ran down Kaiden’s spine. “You know about the Photospheres.”
“Of course.” The Queen leaned forward slightly. “They were once ours, before they were scattered. Before the world began its slow collapse into what you see around you.”
[Lore Reveal Triggered]
“The Photospheres are Court artifacts?” Ironstride asked.
“Not Court, they are much older. From before the divide.” The Queen gestured to the chamber around them. “When the world was whole, six artifacts were forged to anchor its stability. To balance growth and decay. The bearers carried them across the land, maintaining harmony.”
“But something went wrong,” Kaiden said, remembering the vision from the Ancient Courtyard.
“Yes.” The Queen’s voice hardened. “The bearers could not agree. Some believed the world should be guided toward eternal bloom. Others believed it should be allowed to follow natural cycles of growth, decay, and rebirth. The arguments became conflicts. Then those conflicts became war and split the world in two.”
“Into the Seelie and Unseelie Courts,” Naō said.
“Among other divisions. The bearers chose sides. The artifacts were lost and the world has been unraveling ever since.” The Queen’s glowing eyes fixed on Kaiden. “You carry two of those artifacts now. You and your companion. Which means you have been chosen, whether by design or chance, to walk the path the old bearers failed.”
Kaiden’s mouth went dry. “Chosen for what?”
“To maintain balance. Or to tip the scales.” The Queen rose from her throne, towering over them. “The Photospheres seek those who can wield them. Sometimes they find warriors or even scholars. Sometimes those who simply refuse to give up.” Her gaze shifted between Kaiden and Ironstride. “You two were found worthy. The question is whether you will succeed where the old bearers failed.”
[Main Quest Updated: Collapse of Day]
New Information: The ancient artifacts from before the Court divide. Six bearers once maintained world balance. The current bearers must prevent another collapse
“What happens if we fail?” Ironstride asked, voice tight.
“The world continues its collapse and rhe imbalance spreads. Eventually, everything falls to one extreme or the other; eternal bloom that consumes all, or endless decay that leaves nothing.” The Queen returned to her throne. “But you are not the old bearers. You may yet find a different path.”
Silence filled the chamber.
Naō was the first to speak. “So what do we do?”
“What you’ve been doing. Progress. Collect the fragments and ynchronize with your artifacts.” The Queen settled into her seat. “The path will reveal itself as you walk it. But know this, the choice will come and when it does, it will not be simple.”
A notification appeared:
[ Fragment 4/7: Available]
Location: Throne Spire - Lower Vault
The Queen grants you access to Court archives
“There is a fragment here,” the Queen said. “In our vaults. A memory of the first bearer who chose shadow over light. It is yours, if you wish to claim it.”
[Quest Available: The Shadow’s Memory]
Objective: Descend to the Throne Spire vaults and retrieve Fragment 4/7
Reward: Fragment | Lore | +500 Unseelie Reputation
“Thank you,” Kaiden said, uncertain what else to say.
The Queen nodded. “Liri speaks highly of you three. You freed her when you could have abandoned her. You turned from the light Court knowing the cost. The Unseelie do not forget such loyalty.”
[Reputation Update]
Unseelie Court: Honored → Revered (+1,500)
New Rewards: Elite vendor access | Trainer access | Court privileges
“You may explore the Inner Court freely now,” the Queen continued. “Seek out Thornforge if you wish. She will help you with that ruined weapon you carry. I can sense its presence even from here. It belonged to the Court once. It should be restored.”
[Quest Update: The Ruined Rake]
Objective: Locate Thornforge in the Inner Court
Status: Active
“Rest, resupply, and when you are ready, descend to the vaults. The fragment waits.” The Queen settled back into her throne. “This audience is concluded.”
Captain Morrigan gestured toward the exit. “I will show you to the Inner Courts.”
As they turned to leave, Liri came down from the throne platform.
“Thank you,” she said quietly. “For everything.”
Kaiden smiled. “You’re home. That’s what matters.”
“I’ll stay here for now,” Liri said. “The Queen wants me to recover. But I’ll find you again. When you need me.”
“We’ll hold you to that,” Naō said.
Liri smiled and returned to the Queen’s side.
They followed Captain Morrigan out of the Throne Spire and into the Inner Court proper.
It was quieter here. Fewer players, more high-level NPCs.
“Trainers are to the east,” Morrigan explained. “Elite vendors to the west. Thornforge’s workshop is north, near the Court armory. The vault entrance is in the Spire’s lower levels is now accessible from the southern passage.”
He left them at a crossroads where four paths branched in different directions.
Kaiden checked the time: 1:34 AM. His shift had less than four and a half hours remaining.
“We’ve got time for maybe two more objectives before I have to log out” he said. “Vault for the fragment, or Thornforge for the rake?”
“Fragment,” Ironstride said immediately. “That’s main quest progression. The rake’s been waiting this long, it can wait a bit longer.”
Naō nodded agreement. “Plus, the Queen made it sound like the fragment is important. Time-sensitive, even.”
“Vault it is,” Kaiden decided.
They headed south toward the Spire’s lower passages.
The path led downward as the stairs carved into the tree’s roots, descending beneath the Court itself. The light faded, replaced by torches that burned with violet flame.
[Entering: Throne Spire - Lower Vault]
[Recommended Level: 16+]
[Warning: Restricted area. Trespassers will be removed by force.]
The vault entrance was a massive door of dark wood reinforced with metal bands. It stood open, already expecting them.
Beyond it, a long corridor stretched into darkness, ready to prepare for a fight if needed...
They were about to find out.
