Chapter 30: Mary

“Rex, how are they going to carry all these Fire Lizards back?” Seeing that Rex had brought such a small number of people, Roy couldn’t help but ask.

Before the Monster Tide, the Silver Party hunted around 10–15 Fire Lizards daily. However, after the recent addition of Rex, and Roy obtaining the D-rank Gift [Fire Body], they had been able to hunt a lot more monsters.

Today, they hunted a total of 32 Fire Lizards, and if it wasn’t because everyone was exhausted, they would have continued.

“Don’t blame me. Whenever I mentioned the Silver Party, they would all walk away. I don’t know what’s going on, but no one seems willing to work for us.” Rex didn’t like the look Roy was giving him and explained.

“What do you mean?” Roy thought Rex had scared away the workers with his not-so-friendly personality.

“It’s exactly as I said. I approached more than twenty people, and many of them were initially ready for the job. However, the moment I mentioned the Silver Party, they would make some excuse and leave.”

Rex complained. Most parties didn’t even have to look for workers; they came on their own like a flock.

But he had to approach individuals, who would run away the moment he mentioned his party’s name.

“Also, I think workers seem to be avoiding our corner like a plague,” Rex added, remembering the odd behavior he had noticed.

“Well… let’s carry these Fire Lizards back.” Roy let out a helpless sigh and started instructing the party members to carry the rest of the spoils.

“No way, I can’t carry them. I am exhausted.”

  “Fine.”

“Same here, Roy. Just go and hire a few more workers, we will wait for you here.”

“Sir, there are only eight of us and so many extra corpses.”

No one was willing to carry Fire Lizards for such a long distance back. They were exhausted, and even the weight of their weapons had become too much to bear.

“I said fine!” Roy screamed out in frustration. Sometimes these party members were too much to handle.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“Will I ever be like you, Ramses?” Heading back to the city with the workers, Roy wondered to himself.

While Ramses was alive, no one questioned his decisions, and he held the whole party together.

However, after the recent tragedy, all the old members seemed to be on edge, and they hardly listened to him. Always rushing at the monsters and never sticking to the plan.

After getting rid of the Fire Lizard carcasses, Roy himself went to look for workers.

This time, the situation was much better, as people recognized Roy as the new leader of the Silver Party and knew that a portion of their pay wouldn’t be leeched upon.

“Aren’t you coming?” Rex asked Kenji as he saw him trying to slip away.

“C…coming.” Hiding the Silver coin in his hidden pocket, Kenji followed the group and headed out of the city once again.

Two hours later, although Kenji was another Silver coin richer, he was exhausted.

Returning to his room, Kenji let go of the Ki supporting his body, lay down, and drifted into sleep.

  [Ancient Calendar: 28 Feb 0001]

The next day, when Kenji woke up, Rex and Ryan had already left for work, and only Maria was relaxing in the living room, with no sign of Kevin.

“Kenji, you are awake. There are some leftovers in the kitchen, help yourself.” Greeting Kenji, Maria went back to absorbing Ki.

“Thanks…” Kenji happily headed toward the kitchen.

Things had been going great. No one was bullying him at the housing complex anymore, transportation jobs were getting easier, and he had even somehow cracked [Ki Blade].

Kenji would have been smiling in his sleep if it wasn’t for the massive medical bill he owed to the clinics.

After filling his stomach, Kenji left the housing complex and headed toward the Fairy market. Yesterday he was too exhausted to visit the Library, but today he was going to make up for it.

“Welcome. As an unregistered guest, you have accumulated a total of 28 hours. Please remember, as an unregistered guest you are not allowed to borrow books and can only read inside the Library.”

The moment Kenji stepped foot into the Library, a small ball of light appeared before him and spoke.

“For more information, remember to read the Library Guidebook.”

Finally, the ball of light disappeared, and a Library filled with books upon books appeared before Kenji’s eyes.

“I would like to borrow this book.”

“Sure. Remember to return it in 7 days, otherwise you will be charged a fee.”

The Library was bustling with activity. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people were drowned in a sea of books.

Occasionally, a Fairy would fly by to give people coffee or a snack.

“Young Sir, can you step aside?” As Kenji was mesmerized by the scene, a man in his late 40s entered the Library with sacks full of books.

With curiosity, Kenji walked toward the shelves, looking for a book on [Skill Books].

“[Introduction to Magic], not this one. [World of Rucant], [Mage Saint Classics], [World Governance], [Mana Introduction], [The History of Terra], [Introduction to Human Race]……

  ……

  …..

[Introduction to Magic by MagicRuf], [Space Exploration: Things to keep in mind while traveling in Space.]……

  …..

  Not even… here, where… can I find… it?”

After walking past dozens of shelves and going through hundreds of books, Kenji didn’t find anything on [Skill Books].

“Need any help?” As Kenji was getting frustrated, he heard a sweet voice.

Turning to his right side, Kenji saw a young girl holding a book, looking at him with bright eyes.

“….” Kenji was mesmerized by her beauty and forgot to utter a single word.

“Is there something on my face?” As Kenji kept staring at her, the girl asked.

“N..no… I’m… looking for a… book about [Skill Books].” Coming back to his senses, Kenji replied in his usual nervous voice.

“[Skill Books]? You are looking in the wrong place. This is the Magic section. The book you are looking for should be on the third floor. Come, I will help you find it.”

The girl grabbed hold of Kenji’s arm and led him toward the third floor of the Library.

“Hurry up.” Seeing Kenji lagging behind on the stairs, the girl urged him.

Meanwhile, Kenji was lost in his own world. Everything around him seemed to be moving in slow motion, and the girl before him was so gorgeous that he wanted to spend the rest of his life just looking at her.
