Chapter 38 — “The Magic of a Morning Bath”

The sun had barely risen when Eis opened her eyes.

The camp was quiet — the soft snoring of caravan workers, the crackling leftovers of last night’s fire, the gentle hum of morning insects.

Eis sat up, stretching lightly. The air was cold, crisp, clean.

Across the small campsite, Lira was just stirring awake, rubbing her eyes and blinking blearily at the sky.

“Ugh,” Lira muttered. “I feel… disgusting.”

Kael, wrapped in his blanket, mumbled into the fabric,

“You always feel disgusting on day two.”

Ronan adjusted his gloves silently. His expression didn’t change, but the faint crease between his brow said enough:

  He felt disgusting too.

Eis placed a hand on her pack.

“Lira,” she said softly, “would you like to try a cleaning scroll this morning?”

Lira shot upright so fast she nearly fell over.

  “Yes. Yes. Absolutely yes.”

  Kael groaned.

“Unfair. You two get to be clean and glowing while we—”

Lira threw him a look that could kill.

“You had your chance to buy scrolls. Eis is just prepared.”

  Kael looked personally offended.

“Prepared?! Eis bought ten like they are flowers!“

  Eis coughed lightly.

“…I thought they might be useful.”

Ronan raised a hand to silence Kael.

  “…Let Lira go first.”

  Lira didn’t wait another second.

  Eis handed her one scroll.

Lira took it reverently — as if Eis had bestowed upon her a divine artifact.

She stepped behind a nearby tree for privacy.

  A moment later—

  FWOOOOSH

A warm, gentle swirl of magic rippled through the air like a soft breeze.

  Lira stepped back out…

  And froze the entire group.

  Her hair was glossy.

  Her skin actually glowed.

Her clothes looked freshly washed and pressed.

She smelled faintly like morning lilies.

  Kael stared.

  Ronan blinked.

  Eis smiled.

Lira lifted her arms, basking in the cleanliness.

  “THIS. IS. DIVINE.”

  She spun once, cloak fluttering.

“I feel like I could take on the world!”

  Kael clutched his heart dramatically.

  “Eis… Lira has ascended.”

Ronan gave a single approving nod.

  “She looks different.”

Lira pointed commanding at the men.

“You two smell. Eis—give them a scroll.”

  Eis handed Kael a scroll.

  He sprinted behind a tree.

  Another FWOOOOSH.

  Kael emerged—

Hair shining, clothes crisp, teeth white, looking—

honestly? Handsome enough to be annoying.

  He tossed his hair dramatically.

“So THIS is what nobles feel like daily.”

  Lira groaned.

“Disgusting. I already regret giving you this power.”

  Kael winked.

  “Jealous?”

  “Of you? Never.”

  Eis chuckled softly.

  Ronan stood to the side.

Eis nudged a scroll towards him.

  “I couldn’t that your hard-earned money”

“I insist, consider it payback for everything” Eis said.

Ronan hesitantly took the scroll and headed towards the tree.

  A third FWOOOOSH.

  Ronan stepped out…

And even Eis froze for a heartbeat.

Neat hair. Clean cloak. Boots that somehow looked polished.

“…You look very refreshed,” Eis said.

  Ronan blinked, expression softening.

  “…It works well.”

  Kael collapsed theatrically.

“Eis… if I didn’t already respect you, I’d worship you now.”

  Lira smacked him lightly.

  “Get it together.”

Eis hid a laugh behind her sleeve.

As the fire warmed the air:

  • Kael hummed about “rebirth”

  •
  • Lira preened like a smug cat

  •
  • Ronan looked unnervingly composed

  •
  • Caravan guards stared in awe

  •

  One guard whispered,

“How do they look like they bathed?!”

  Another shook his head.

  “Is this… magic nobility?!”

  Kael whispered to Eis dramatically,

“You’ve doomed us. We’ll never tolerate being dirty again.”

  Eis whispered back:

  “I only brought ten.”

  Kael paled.

  “…Eis… that’s not nearly enough.”

  Eis suppressed another soft laugh.

As the caravan prepared to depart, Team Argent gathered, clean and energized.

  Lira stretched proudly.

  “I feel incredible.”

  Kael adjusted his quiver.

  “And I feel powerful.”

  Ronan nodded toward the road.

  “We move.”

Eis lifted her pack, falling quietly into step alongside them.

  Clean.

  Comfortable.

And surrounded by warmth she hadn’t expected.
