Into The System - 4

  4

“Hiking is Bullshit!” Darren cursed at the sky. Since climbing down the tree, he had been making his way north-west for the better part of 3 hours. Nothing in the terrain seemed to have changed. “I’d settle for seeing some wildlife or something. Give a guy a Character Sheet and the promise of gaining levels through XP, then drop him in the middle of a fucking empty forest.” Darren kicks a rock, sending it flying into a bush. Instead of hearing the thud of it hitting the ground, Darren hears the thud of it hitting something fleshy. From the bush, a growling bark sounds as a large fox leaps from the bush towards Darren.

Caught off guard, Derren fumbles to grab his axes. The fox bites onto his arm.

A Feral Fox (Basic) bites you for 15 points of damage. Current HP: 125/140.

“Shit!” Darren yells as he swings his arm, smacking the attached fox into a tree.

You Improvised Attack a Feral Fox (Basic) for 5 points of damage. Improvised Attack deals 5 points of damage to you. Current HP: 120/140.

Mental note, don’t smash a creature into a tree while it’s still attached to your body. Derren flings his arm, trying to detach the fox. Luckily, it worked, sending the fox flying 10ft away. Grabbing his axes, Derren prepares for the next attack. The fox darts forward in a serpentine pattern, then leaps to attack again. Seeing an opportunity, Darren swings both axes, sinking both his axes into the fox’s side.

You damage Feral Fox for 25 points of damage.

Congratulations, you have slain a Feral Fox (Basic) Level 1. You gain 20 XP. For being the first in the tutorial to kill a creature, you gain an XP multiplier of 2x. XP to next level: 160.

Darren breathes heavily as he stares at the fox. “Holy shit, I did it.” Walking up to the body, another System message pops up.

“Well, this has been a successful mishap and only 50 XP to level 1. I’m going to have to find some more foxes.” Darren felt excited as he continued his trek to the outcropping.

After another 10 minutes of walking, Darren stops as he sees a large squirrel sitting on a branch. Investigate.
