CH 141 - Several Incoming, One Outgoing

Fall of Winter, Week 5, Day 3

  Dear Nora,

I can’t believe how fun it sounds to be at the borderlands! I’m jealous of your excursions into the local forest. It sounds like [Winter Ministers] are little pranksters!

And you caught one in a net you wove yourself? I’m so impressed!

Clarence and Phil are being so annoying about our training. They insist on keeping me away from the frontlines, but how else am I supposed to learn? Our instructor in Juvel is very good though, so I’m learning a lot. He’s especially helpful for my dagger Skill!

And before you harp on it as well, I know that Healers are supposed to stay back—but I don’t actually have a healing Class yet. So I should keep my Skills sharp in case I’m not offered one.

That isn’t to say my [First Aid] isn’t doing its job, but for now it’s hardly as useful as a trip to the Alchemists.

Also, I wanted to say thank you for the dress you made for me. It’s perfect. And I had it [Appraised] and its durability is crazy! I’ll be able to wear it as armor while still looking stylish! Honestly, it’s better than what most of the nobles in Juvel wear. I really am very blessed to have you as a friend.

I’ve included a drawing of Clarence and Phil during their latest bout—Phil won, of course.

  With all my love,

  Clara of Ugar

  Sis,

Please, please, please kill me now. Every time this old man tries to teach me anything, he layers it in a thousand different metaphors that I have to dissect to get anything useful. It’s torture. I hate it. And I can’t forget any of the ridiculous words even if I tried.

I’ve never been more upset than when I realized [Library of Thought] was not able to be turned off.

Not to mention Mother has been sending a thousand requests via Knight Charlatans.

I need you to imagine me whining this next part:

Theodore, tell me of your plans.

  Theodore, what have you learned?

Theodore-Theodore-Theodore, tell me everything you see.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

I hate it. What? Does the woman think they let me in the War Room? She’ll be disappointed. I’m trapped in the outer palace and forced to sneak around with Jonah if I want to see anything even semi-interesting.

Speaking of, I’m still not convinced Jonah is sticking around. In fact, I’m not really convinced his name is Jonah. Why doesn’t he have a last name? He clearly has an elemental affinity. Then again, it feels like half the Callistan Nobility have an elemental affinity. Makes me feel a bit behind, if I’m honest.

Anyway, he’s fun to be around. The other day we were sparring, and he summoned a shield of ice and shoved it into me so hard I nearly broke a rib. When I yelped, he snorted and said, “Your little sister would laugh at you if she saw you.”

  But you wouldn’t, would you?

Ugh, I miss you terribly. Tell me more about the Hyperion and your other friends. Mostly the Hyperion. He hasn’t done anything odd has he?

  Love,

  Theo

  Lady Dawn,

I know this missive is coming late. Honestly, I’m not sure if I should send it at all. But, well, in the past years, I’ve been thinking about what happened between us.

As terrifying as the events of that day were for me, my mother has explained many a time over how they must have seemed to you. A Blight in our basement. Now that time has passed, I can see the reality of it.

I’m sorry, Lady Dawn. I called you a monster, but it wasn’t right. You aren’t a terror in the night.

I would call you Nora, but I don’t think I can anymore. I think your anger wiped away that right. But that’s okay. One day, may we meet again. And when that time comes I hope we can become friends once more.

  Sincerely,

  Jennifer Perry

  Daughter of Baroness Perry

  Lady Dawn,

I implore you to forgive my daughter her ill-advised fear. She was young, as you were. And so, I feel it necessary to ask on her behalf that you take her letter to heart and give her the benefit of the doubt.

I would not be sending this letter were it not for the pain my daughter feels when she hears the name of Dawn.

We are but a mere Barony under the Dawn banner. But still, I ask that as a member of the main line you forgive us. You are the daughter of our Liege, and we need no further pain in our family.

As an aside, her Skill in music has grown. Soon, she will embark on a tour around the Duchy. I hope, when that happens, you will accept her in Fellan. Any support from you will go far in her ability to perform around the lands of Dawn.

  Yours,

  Baroness Margery Perry

Lady of the Forest of Julep

  To Eunora Killian Dawn,

You are cordially invited to attend young Lord Uriel Hyperion’s celebration of the anniversary of his Awakening. This will be the third Lunar Anniversary.

The event will be held at the Hyperion Estate outside Fellan.

  Sincerely,

  The Marquess Family of Hyperion

  Nora,

I swear to Morloch if you don’t show up to my party I will abandon you to sit with Edwin for the rest of the year.

  Uriel

  Uriel,

His company will be unnecessary. I wouldn’t miss your birthday party for the world.

Well, I would, actually. But since you asked so nicely.

  Nora
