  Key Terms

Archive Protocol / Enigma Protocol – The encrypted data package containing commentary, communications, and redacted reports compiled around the events of the central conspiracy. “Enigma Protocol” is both a title and an internal codename. Sections of the protocol are now being leaked to the public… from inside.

Bursts – Short for burst events, these are powerful, irregular EMP waves caused by Aralin’s unstable solar activity. While scientists can sometimes predict them in advance, bursts remain a constant threat, regularly disabling unshielded technology.

Everyday Impact: Most sensitive tech can only be reliably used in burstproof buildings or vehicles equipped with Vaziari shielding. Outside those areas, communities rely on a hybrid of mechanical systems (e.g., cars, planes) and ruggedized tools.

Social Use: “Bursts” has become a mild expletive in casual speech—similar to “damn” or “blast”.

Though often treated as background noise in daily life, bursts are one of the main reasons Aralin remains technologically uneven and isolated.

Burst Lines – Long, continent-spanning metal conduits engineered to absorb and store energy from solar bursts (natural EMP events). Smaller versions can power regional areas.

Primary Use: Major renewable power source, especially for cities and excavation outposts.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Distribution: Managed by both government and corporate entities. Control of junctions is politically and economically strategic.

Strategic Value: Frequently contested zones, used for power, transport, or covert operations. Key targets for sabotage.

Infrastructure: Burstproof facilities (e.g., Novem and Solterra outposts) are often constructed around major burst lines for energy stability.

Burstproof Tech – Technology hardened against electromagnetic surges. Expensive, and essential in many parts of Aralin. Vaziari-run companies hold near-total control over burstproof innovations.

Cascades — A stronger expletive than “bursts,” rooted in theology. Refers to the mythic waterfall in Church of the Ascent lore—a symbol of descent into torment.

  Common usage:

“What in the cascades is happening?”

  “Cascades take him.”

“She’s gonna rain down the cascades on you.”

Still considered taboo in religious or conservative regions, making it more culturally charged than “bursts.”

Jump Engines – The propulsion systems used for interstellar travel. The Atalanta’s jump engines are still onboard but non-functional without statherium.

Prisms – Devices used to channel or amplify luminance-based abilities. Standard for most Luminars, and heavily modified by Vaziari engineers. Prisms vary in size, complexity, and function, ranging from subtle personal enhancers to large-scale field devices.

Statherium – A volatile compound required to stabilize jump engines for interstellar travel. Once plentiful through trade, Aralin has only trace deposits—now a central crisis.

  Competing Solutions:

Recovery – Find a hidden cache in the ruins. (Backed by Novem + Temporals)

Synthesis – Create a substitute. (Technically viable but inefficient)

Mining – Extract native deposits. (Rare, unstable)

The statherium crisis is at the heart of Aralin’s excavation, conspiracy, and technological stagnation.
