Chapter 17

Inside a dimly lit room full of old books stacked on a row of bookshelves, a young man was seen reading an old book. As he read, he began to take notes in his memo.

“Alex, are you still here?” An elderly man's voice came from the doorway.

Upon hearing this, the young man, identified as Alex, looked up from the book and checked the time on his watch, which was adorned on his wrist. Then he replied, “Ah, yes, master.”

“Are you here to read the old record again?” the elderly man asked, raising a question as he walked closer to him.

“I was checking the record of the House Willow. I could not find it in the system.” Alex said as he stood up.

“I see. That record was just recovered recently, and many parts were missing.” The elderly man nodded in understanding.

“Most of their records during that time were missing. It is hard to piece it together. The only record from that time I can find is this diary of Duke Dylan Willow.” Alex said as he looked down at the book placed on the table.

The elderly man walked up to Alex. Then he carefully placed his hand on the old book. “It was inevitable. Do you know about the strife five hundred years ago?”

“You mean the civil war dubbed as the little crusade?”

“The head of the Marquise Willow at that time, who was still a Duke, went berserk and destroyed the record during that period. He started by destroying the record in his house. Then, he began to target the records of other houses.” The elderly man said without moving his eyes from the book.

“It was recorded in the main church library. That war was sanctioned by the church after all. His crime was tampering with the war record against the demon king. Because of his action, we lost the most effective method to deal with the demon king and the calamity. Because of that, they were demoted to the Count.”

“That is why it was important for us to try to piece it together again. The imperial family, the main church, and even the Golden family provide us full support to recompile these records.” The elderly man shifted his gaze to Alex.

“It feels like we are the unsung heroes of this generation,” Alex jokingly said.

“In recorded history, only the fourth resurrection of the demon king suffered the least damage. It is thought to be the cornerstone of today's advancements. Even with the advances of civilization and today's technology, we still suffered enormous damage during the last resurrection.” The elderly man gave out a deep sigh.

“It was recorded that the saintess during that time, Saintess Lilia, was the daughter of Duke Dylan Willow. And his second wife is the adopted daughter of Saintess Catherine, the previous saintess.”

“Now, do you see the importance of recovering the record from the house Willow, especially from Duke Dylan Willow? Let’s go. The first prince is waiting for us.” The elderly man said as he turned back and walked toward the exit.

“What? We have to hurry. We cannot let the royalty wait for us.” Alex began chasing his master. As he caught up, he asked. “By the way, what is the purpose of His Highness' visit today?”

“The first prince comes here to inquire about the progress. He also brings the key to the lost dungeon.”

“His royal highness manages to recover it? I hope the book inside is still intact.”
