The man covered his nose. Walked through explosion smoke. Reached the chamber's depths. Looked up.
A floating stone slab. Hourglasses drifted around it.
A humanoid cat—resembling a Cornish Rex—sprawled on the slab. Lazy. Bored.
"Lord Beerus, sleeping in isn't a good habit. And you set those timers. They explode when time's up."
"I know, I know. Getting up... soon..."
Beerus didn't move. Eyes closed.
BOOM.
One hourglass detonated. Chain reaction. All exploded. Beerus flew off the slab.
His white pajamas—shredded. But he was fine.
He sat up. Stretched. Yawned.
An hour later. Washed. Changed. Beerus reclined in a chair. Mountains of food covered the table.
The man—Whis—brought fruit. Beerus stabbed meat with a fork. "Whis, did Frieza destroy Planet Vegeta?"
"Yes. Nothing remains."
Beerus nodded. Satisfied. "Good. Those Saiyans were crude. Especially King Vegeta. Stingy. If Frieza hadn't done it, I would've. Speaking of which—Frieza's not much better. Should I destroy him too?"
Destroying the universe's emperor would be amusing.
"Unfortunately, Lord Beerus, someone already killed Frieza."
"Oh? Someone surpassed Frieza?"
"A Saiyan. Named Son Goku. Or Kakarot."
"Saiyans survived Planet Vegeta's destruction?"
"Most died. A few were off-world. One of them defeated Frieza."
Whis tapped his staff. Projected footage.

Beerus sat up. That sounds familiar. He thought hard. Then—
"I remember! Super Saiyan God! I dreamed of fighting one. And the Oracle Fish said I'd meet my rival when I woke. That's it! Where's this Saiyan? I'll ask him about Super Saiyan God!"
Whis shook his head. "Unfortunately, Son Goku died years ago. Heart virus. He's already reincarnated."
Beerus deflated. "Dead? Shame."
"But don't despair. King Vegeta's son—Vegeta—is alive. Though weaker than his son Trunks and Goku's son Gohan. Recently, those two half-Saiyans destroyed a powered-up Majin Buu."
"Powered-up Majin Buu? How strong?"
"Very. But nothing compared to you now."
Beerus grinned. "Saiyans—once weak as ants—destroyed Majin Buu? Unexpected."
"There's more. The strongest Saiyan now is Android 12. A female artificial Saiyan. She might be the Super Saiyan God you seek."
"Oh? Excellent."
Light at the end of the tunnel.
"Where is she? I'll find her!"
"She, not he, Lord Beerus."
Beerus perked up. A female Saiyan that strong? Interesting.
"And her identity's special. She's the Supreme Kai of Time's disciple. A candidate Supreme Kai."
Ah. That explains it.
"Chronoa's student? No wonder. Didn't expect her to take disciples."
"Currently, she's training on King Kai's Planet with two half-Saiyans. Under the Grand Supreme Kai."
"Grand Supreme Kai? Wasn't he absorbed by Majin Buu? A new one?"
"No. The same one you knew. The female Saiyan used Yardrat Fission to separate him from Buu. He calls himself Grand Supreme Kai Buu now."
"Grand Supreme Kai Buu? So much happened while I slept. After I eat, take me to meet her. And Grand Supreme Kai Buu."
Beerus devoured the food.
King Kai's Planet.
Months of training. Perilla—half-step to Super Saiyan God—was almost there.
Red aura blazed. Intensified. About to turn fully red—
Vanished.
Perilla collapsed. Gasped for air.
Grand Supreme Kai Buu smiled. "Don't rush. You're one step away. You'll break through soon."
"Yeah, Perilla-nee! That form was already super strong!"
Trunks—now sensing divine Ki—felt her overwhelming power.
"Grand Supreme Kai's right. No need to rush."
Perilla wiped sweat. Exhaled. "I'm not rushing. I have a premonition. I need to break through now."
"I—"
Grand Supreme Kai Buu stopped. His eyes opened. Expression serious.
"Grand Supreme Kai, what's wrong?"
In months of training, we've rarely seen him like this.
He turned. Stared into the distance. "They're here."
"Who—"
Trunks followed his gaze. A man and a cat appeared.
The pressure—crushing.
Whis and Beerus.
"Long time no see, Grand Supreme Kai. Or should I say—Grand Supreme Kai Buu."
"Beerus? What are you doing here?"
"I came to see the Super Saiyan God. But you—fused with Majin Buu—your power's incredible. Divine and demon energy combined. I'm more interested in you now."
Grand Supreme Kai Buu's stronger than the Super Saiyan God from my dream. Why bother with her? I'll fight him instead.
