Beta And Gamma Test

  Chapter 40:

  Beta and Gamma Test

  Jackson:

I am overwhelmed just looking over the sign up sheet. Over 100 members have entered the competition. The written test I'm sure will weed out at least half of them. There are questions about the history of the pack hive coven, how many different supernaturals we have in the pack and what special abilities each hybrid possesses, why we are now called The New Moon PHC. How many packs are we in alliance with and the names of those packs, military questions about past wars, how they were won, lost and why they ended the way they did. Why chess is important in determining war outcomes, maneuvers, and positioning of soldiers. When to fight in human form and when to shift there are also questions about the participants' family. Not too personal questions but questions to give me an idea about who they all are, like if they are hybrid or pure blood, what species they are, if they are mated to a hybrid or pure blood, if they have children and if so how many, what are their abilities and why I should choose them to be my 2nd and 3rd in command. Once the test questions are completed, Ashura and Tanchi go over the test to see if I need to add any more questions. Once the test is complete D makes copies and asks Sam and Lyidia to cast spells that prevent lies and cheating and some other spells that Nome has insisted on being placed. When the tests are spelled, we will have every one meet in the public training building. There are no right or wrong answers, it's strictly based on the best answers and approach.

I will admit I'm very skeptical about this whole thing but it is necessary. Between the work at Drac Corp, being Alpha and all the training, I have stretched myself too thin. I can no longer do this all by myself.

Wayne comes into my office and tells me he wants to put his hate in the ring for Beta. I'm glad D made extra copies and sent them to Sam and Lyidia with the rest. I'm beyond thrilled that Wayne wants to participate and be a part of the PHC again. Truth be known I have thought about asking him to take over as Alpha again but I know he wouldn't want that. He didn't want it when he had it but he was an excellent Alpha. I shake his hand and hug him telling him I hope the best for him.

We make small talk as we walk into the training room. In the front are 5 teacher style desks and office chairs. Facing the teacher desks are school desks lined up in rows of 10, on top of the desks are the test with a notebook in case people need more paper for their answers. Dianna and Mom come in followed by my Dad. Nome links us and tells us the spells placed are designed so if the person is lying or cheating it makes them go to sleep, it makes it easier to throw them out of the running. As I look out of the crowd of pack members. I'm shocked to see Thoran. He is actually taking the test. I linked Dad and Nome to see if they knew he was participating. Dad said he talked intensely to Thoran about taking the test. He said Thoran was adamant about taking it. Saying he wants to help the pack, he wants to do something other than train.

The test takes several hours for some to complete. Surprisingly no one has been thrown out. This is going to take longer than I thought at this rate but I know it will be worth it in the long run.

After the written tests are graded which at this rate will take a week we will have the best candidates have a week long contest. A battle of wits, problem solving, strategy and strength. Dad and Ashura have made several types of puzzles for the participants. I'm sure knowing my Dad these are not going to be easy. He loves puzzles and solving them. Ashura loves them just as much. Ashura, Thoran and Nome may not be my biological Brothers and Sisters but I love them as if they are. Same with Tanchi. He is my son no matter his DNA. Our family feels complete. It always felt something was missing. Even when I was growing up. Dad, Mom and I had a conversation about it at least once a week. We just felt empty. Now we know it wasn't something but someone well multiple someone's.

As people start turning in their tests, I open a link to everyone at our table. I was careful to close the third door. I asked if we should let the kids help grade the papers since they all have different ways of looking at things. Mom suggests we look over the test first and pick our best candidates then let the kids take over from there. Dianna says we split the papers into equal parts and take turns switching the tests to see if anyone picks the same people. It will take a little longer but it might be the only way to get people who qualify. I like her idea. It will take longer but it seems the most effective.
