DbS-RR Chapter 0: System Initialize

  Fly. Fly higher.

The black beast tore through the clouds, each wingbeat dispelling the storm. Its scales, once radiant obsidian, now dulled beneath wounds that refused to close.

  Still, it rose.

Past the lightning. Past the thunder. Past the reach of air and sound. Beyond the last veil of cloud, it broke into the heavens – where silence ruled, and its pursuer waited.

The white beast descended from the stars. Its eyes burned with divine fury; its wings were vast enough to blot out the sun.

  Fight. Fight harder.

When their roars met, space rippled. The shockwave struck the moon, rending it in half. Fragments fell like meteors toward the innocent blue world below.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The black beast didn’t wait. It lunged, claws trailing fire across the firmament. The white beast countered, unleashing a torrent of searing light. Their collision carved through the upper sky, igniting the atmosphere.

Below, the seas boiled. Lands turned molten. The world began to bleed.

  Survive. Must survive.

The black beast endured, even with one wing incinerated. Within its flickering gaze, defiance lived on. The white beast retaliated. Maimed and missing an eye and a limb, it readied its breath attack before diving like a comet. It was a descent of wrath. Of judgment. Of vengeance born from forgotten yore.

The black beast struck first, its tail cleaving the void. The white beast reeled, its breath missing the mark.

Instead, the planet below received the full brunt.

The core was pierced. Magma veined across the surface. The sky turned to fire as the two Arbiters hung above the ruined world. Neither dying, neither yielding. A battle of attrition with no victor in sight and no glory to be sung. Only ruination.

The black beast fought on, yet its gaze drifted. Not to its foe, but to the dying world below.

  Another grave in the cosmos.

For a heartbeat, it mourned. Then, it made a choice.

  Change. Evolve. Initialize the System!

Else, another world would be lost.
