As the sun went down for the day, it was that time. Many of the hard working men of the city make their way to its various taverns scattered throughout. Jerrim bursts into the doors of one, with Shelly by his side. Immediately, they are bombarded with the cheers of guys casually hanging out, telling each other stories and lies, laughing, and arguing. It was an atmosphere that Shelly wasn’t familiar with. She looked around as they both entered, seeing men arm wrestling, and even playing the classic knife game with their fingers, stopping to gaze in her direction.
Shelly: Why are they all looking at me? It's creeping me out
Jerrim: Taverns like this almost never see any women entering for a drink. They are only ever the bartenders
Shelly: Great...now I get to sit down and have a drink while wondering if there's a guy staring at me and imagining the freaky things they'd want to do to me
Jerrim: Ehahaha! They aren't all like that, but don't be surprised if there's a few! Hahahaa!
Shelly could overhear a few of the men sitting nearby as they walked through.
?: What's a woman like her doing here...?
??: Man, what I'd do to have a drink with her...
???: Tell me about it...
????: I'd be doin' more than just having a drink with her...
???: Don't you have a woman already?
????: Bitch cheated on me a while ago...killed the bastard and made her leave
Shelly: It's truly a different world here
Shelly thought to herself as she expressed great discomfort on her face. The two carried on and sat down at the bar, awaiting the bartender's arrival.
Bartender: Wow, you got balls waking into here, lady
Said the bartender as she approached them.
Jerrim: She's here with me. If anything happens, I'm here to protect her
Bartender: My, what a gentleman you are
The bartender said sarcastically with a smirk.
Bartender: What can I get the both of ya?
Jerrim: Two rounds of beer is all
Bartender: Alrighty, I'll be right back with your two rounds
The bartender then walks away, and Jerrim turns to Shelly.
Jerrim: So, how many beers deep can you go?
Shelly: Why? You asking so you know how many it takes to get me in bed with you?
Shelly responded jokingly as she looked at him with a smirk.
Jerrim: Haha! Don't test me, now! You never know, I might get drunk before you do!
Shelly: Heh, if that's a challenge you're proposing, I accept!
Jerrim: Now that's the spirit! Loosening up!
The bartender comes back and sets down a couple of wooden mugs filled to the brim with a foaming beverage in each.
Bartender: Here ya go! Try not to get too drunk, now. I need money too ya know...
The bartender then walks off, and Shelly immediately goes for her mug.
Jerrim: So, tell me about yourself. Where exactly do you come from?
Jerrim asked as he picked up his mug. Shelly took a sip and looked over at him.
Shelly: Where I come from...?
Shelly stops for a moment and starts to remember everything from her past life again. Hesitant as she stares him in the eyes as every memory hit her.
Shelly: Mmh!
Appearing somewhat bothered, she raises her mug and starts to chug the entire thing.
Jerrim: Woah there, going a little fast aren't we?
Shelly: Kuuuh...!
She slams the now empty mug down with a loud thump and looks over at him again.
Shelly: I don't know what to say to him. I don't want to lie, but I know...I know if I tell him, he won't believe any of it!
Jerrim: What? You out of the game already or something?
Shelly: N-No...
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
Jerrim: ?
Shelly: I just...I, come from a different place
Jerrim: Hahah, well of course. We all hail from different regions, cities, and continents
Shelly: No...
Jerrim: Hm?
Shelly: That's not what I mean. I...
Shelly then looks him dead in the eyes.
Shelly: I came from a different world! I'm not, from this world...
Jerrim appeared to be quite confused by that statement. Shelly looked away from him and down at the counter, feeling somewhat embarrassed even though she knew she told the truth.
Jerrim: Hahah! Come on, you must be tipsy already!
Shelly: I...I'm being serious...I'm not drunk
Jerrim: A different world? Is that even possible?
Shelly: Well. Haven't you seen my clothes...? I bet you haven't seen anything like them here, have you?
Jerrim was reminded of her attire that made her appear so stunning to him. The odd pants, boots, and shirt. As well as even the cross pendant.
Jerrim: I guess you have a point there...but there are many individuals out there with bizarre fashion choices
Shelly: Mine isn't bizarre! Well, at least not in my world. If you still don't believe me? Then explain my gun...
Jerrim: Yeah, you made that yourself, didn't you?
Shelly: No, I didn't...
Jerrim: So someone made it for you then?
Shelly: It's a mass-produced tool made by a company. Look
Shelly pulls out her M18 and presents the manufacturer's logo on the slide, as well as the place it was made.
Shelly: That's the manufacture's logo, and the location it came out of
Jerrim: You mean to tell me that this is a mass-produced tool?
Shelly: Yes, in fact, my nation's military uses them
Jerrim: A military huh? Tell me about them. Well, actually, start with your nation
Shelly: I'm starting to regret this. But I'm in too deep now. Better keep trying to convince him then
She looks at him with a straight face and starts telling him about the state she was raised in, as well as America itself. Explaining everything she could about the technologies and the current fashion. Even going as far as talking about other countries as well. Jerrim didn't want to believe it, but something kept him questioning her.
No matter how many questions he asked about her world, she returned an answer without hesitation. Not a smile cracking on her face, no fidgeting in her body. She was calm and casual the entire time. Shelly was trying everything she could to get Jerrim to believe her.
Somewhere along the way, Jerrim started to become more fascinated than he was skeptical. All because of the most convincing part, which wasn't anything Shelly was saying, nor was it anything that she was showing to him, but rather, it was what he saw.
Jerrim: The soul is linked to the thoughts and feelings of a person. The soul of anyone who lies tends to vibrate intensely, while the soul of an honest person, always stays perfectly still. I probably wouldn't believe a word she's saying right now, even though her body itself shows no signs of deception. But her soul...it's not even moving
Jerrim could see inside Shelly, looking right through her, seeing the glowing white orb inside her that was her soul.
Jerrim: If her soul wasn't so still, then I wouldn't believe a damn thing that she's saying to me. This...is genuine honesty
Shelly: So, do you believe me yet?
Jerrim was left in silent shock. Part of him still wanted to refuse everything she said, but he saw her soul firsthand. Not a single lie was told.
Jerrim: Have I really been hanging out with a woman from another world this entire day?
*CRASH*
?: Ah! Oh no!
??: What the hell?!
Suddenly, the entire tavern is filled with the clanging sounds of a tray with mugs hitting the floor. As well as the shouting voice of a waitress. Followed by the sound of a guy yelling at her, thoroughly pissed off. Jerrim and Shelly both look behind them, seeing the waitress trying to get up in front of a fancily-dressed guy with blonde hair and orange eyes, who was now drenched in beer.
?: I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to! It was an accident!
The girl pleaded to the man while down on her knees.
??: Rgh! Shut the hell up! Guards!
The man shouted as he raised his hand and snapped his finger. Suddenly, two men who stood next to him, clad in silver armor with sheathed swords, rush up to the waitress and pin her down on the table.
*SLAM*
?: Gah!!!
??: You disgusting whore! You dare insult the son of the emperor?!
?: I swear, I didn't mean to!
*SLAP*
??: Shut up!
The man shouted again as he slapped the poor waitress right in the face.
?: Ah!!!
Shelly watched the situation unfold before her with gritting teeth.
Shelly: That jackass.
Everybody watched in silence as the man stood up and grabbed her by the wrist. Slamming her hand back down on the table as he sat on top of her and pulled out a dagger.
??: Lowly beasts like you deserve a good punishment. How do you feel about the knife game, huh?!
?: N-No! Please! Stop! I beg of you!!! I-I'll do anything!!!
Shelly watches as the man raises the dagger high into the air.
Shelly: This cannot go unpunished...
Jerrim glances over at Shelly and watches as she suddenly jumps out of her seat.
Jerrim: W-What? Shelly, what are you doing?
Shelly: HEY!!!
??: Huh?
The man stops and looks back at Shelly, who stared at him with a piercing glare.
??: Who do you think you are, raising your voice at me like that? How about you mind your business before you get hurt too!
Shelly: Rgh...!
Without hesitation, Shelly marched over to the man with clenched fists as she grunted at him. Before she gets to him, the man gets off the waitress and stands up with the dagger. She reaches him, and without any hesitation, pushes him back into his seat.
??: Rgh! How dare you lay hands on me? You bitch.
Shelly: I've only ever seen your kind once before. An insecure loser who acts high and mighty over everyone else
Everyone in the bar gasps, even Jerrim was in disbelief.
??: What. Did. You. Say, to me?!
Shelly: Oh, you heard me.
The man looks at her with a grim smile.
??: I don't think you understand just who you're talking to, bitch. I'm the son of the emperor, Anlan vi Aunoss!
The two men in silver armor attempt to push Shelly back, but the man, Anlan, stops them.
Anlan: No, stand down. I'd like to personally teach this bitch a lesson
Shelly: Heh, oh yeah? What are you gonna do?
She asked with a smug grin.
Anlan: Easy. I'll gut you slowly, and then I'll saw your head off!
Shelly: Heh.
Anlan: Why are you still smiling...? Did you not hear what I said before? I'm the son of the emperor.
Shelly leans forward and gets in the mans face, looking him dead in his eyes with a glare.
Shelly: Oh yeah? I don't give a damn if you're the son of the emperor, "Anal Aunoss"
Anlan: Gh! That's not my name! You bitch!
Suddenly, Anlan raises the dagger again, aiming for Shelly's neck, but to his surprise, she moves out of the way and barely dodges it
Jerrim: Woah!
At which point, Shelly looks down at Anlan, rears her foot back, and sends her leg forward!
*WHAM*
Slamming her boot directly into his groin!
Anlan: GAH!!!
Then, Jerrim picks up his mug and splashes his beer onto another guy who sat next to him. The man looks back at him, angrier than a rank bull.
?: Hey! What the hell?! You son of a—!!!
The man attempts to reach for Jerrim to punch him in the face, but Jerrim grabs the guy by his arm...
Jerrim: Heheh
And swings him into another table, taking out two other guys.
??: Hey! What the fuck?!
Then those two guys attacked the man who landed on their table, with one of them getting knocked back into three other guys. The next thing Jerrim and Shelly knew, a domino effect started to take place. As more people started to get pissed off at each other, it wasn't long before beer mugs and chairs started to fly.
Shelly: Heh
Shelly looked down at Anlan with a big smile on her face, getting a clear enjoyment out of watching him hold onto his groin while groaning in pain. Then the two guards try to move in to restrain her.
Shelly: Huh?! Wait!
But suddenly, some random guy caught in the chaos of the fight is thrown into them, knocking them both down. It was loud and intense. Crazier than a damn bull fight. Men knocking each other out, while all the waitresses and bartenders fled to the back in fear, except for one.
?: Hey, you still gotta pay me y'know
She said to Jerrim as she leaned over the counter, casually dodging a beer mug that flew right past her face.
Jerrim: Oh, yeah
Jerrim tosses a few coins on the counter and then runs over at Shelly.
Jerrim: Time to go!
He shouts as he grabs onto her hand and takes off with her.
Shelly: W-Wah!
They both take off, running out the doors as fast as they can.
Anlan: H-Hey! Come, back! Y-You, bitch! Rgh!
Anlan gets up from his bench seat and waddles after them. They exit the bar and run out into the street, noticing a large line of heavily armed guards making their way down the street to the commotion. Anlan bursts through the door and points at Jerrim and her.
Anlan: GUARDS!!! G-GET THEM!!!
But now, the massive line of guards were coming to get them.
Shelly: Oh shit!
Jerrim: We'd better run!!!
Shelly: Agreed!
Quickly, they both take off down the street, leaving nothing more than plumes dust in their wake.
Jerrim: We better find a place to hide out!!! There's gonna be capital police and armed guards looking everywhere for us!!!
Shelly: Damnit!!! Why didn't you tell me that beforehand?!
~?~?~?~?~
Two pairs of sprinting footsteps echo through a dark back alleyway, directly against the ten meter high wall at the edge of the city. It had been half an hour of running and evading authorities, and the sun had finally set. Shelly and Jerrim were both gasping for air as they'd finally come to a halt in the middle of the darkened cobblestone walkway. Stopping before a small flight of steps that went downward. Shelly and Jerrim both slouch over and hold themselves up with their hands on their knees as they both breathe heavily.
Jerrim: I think...we lost 'em...
Shelly: Huu...finally...
Jerrim: They're going to be looking for us forever y'know. The emperor would never let us go unpunished after you cut off his son's ability to continue their family tree
Shelly: Tree?...it's a family log, there are no branches...besides, do you honestly think I could take him in a fair fight?
Shelly asked as she straightened out her back and stretched her arms.
Jerrim: Hell no...I think it's hilarious. There's nothing I hate more than the corrupt elite. Nothing more enjoyable than watching a corrupt wealthy scumbag like him get taken out by a cheap shot from a girl
Shelly: I hope he'll die a virgin.
Jerrim: Heh, getting a little dark, huh?
Shelly: I honestly have no room to talk...
Shelly thought to herself with an awkward grin.
?: Found you
Suddenly, emerging from the shadows with the voice of another woman is the blade of a familiar longsword shining under the moonlight. She walks out of the shadow, and Jerrim's eyes widen.
Shelly: It's her again! It's that knight! Iris Aerialheardt!
