Chapter 2 – Whispers Beneath the Stone

Chapter 2 – Whispers Beneath the Stone

The castle’s heart was carved from obsidian and shadow, its long halls swallowing Leo’s desperate voice.

He ran until his legs gave out, calling for help swallowed by cold silence and watchful eyes. No answers. No mercy.

At last, he collapsed in the empty courtyard, torn and raw.

  Darkness welled.

When he awoke, the red sky softened, and he was back in his cot. The letter, wrinkled, still nestled in his pouch.

Captain Kael sat nearby, silent and heavy with regret.

“You’re awake,” Kael said quietly. “Calm yourself, Leo. Rushing into darkness won’t bring her back.”

Leo looked away, the ache of helplessness crushing him. Unlike others, he bore no wings, no magic, no legacy—only shame, buried deep until now.

He cried—loud, raw, unashamed—letting the fractured soul pour free.

Kael sat silent, witness to a boy breaking.

When silence returned, Leo whispered fiercely, “I’ll find her. No matter what. I’ll never be helpless again.”

Kael nodded, warning. “The path is dark. Beware you don’t lose yourself chasing the light.”

  A knock broke the moment.

Rily, silver-haired, wide-eyed and brave, stepped inside.

“Leo,” she said, voice trembling, “Two Royal Knights took your sister. When I asked, they denied it. Now... they’re missing too.”

  Cold dread settled.

Leo’s pain steeled into clarity. This was no accident.

  It was abduction.

  A cover-up.

  No one would help.

  But he was alone anyway.

“Where were they taking her?” he asked.

Rily looked down. “Toward the dungeons.”

Kael stiffened. “No. That place is forbidden. Even knights fear what lies beneath.”

  Leo nodded, mind made.

Kael’s prayers lingered in the air as he left, warning against what was to come.

  Leo met Rily’s eyes.

  No words were needed.

Answers hid beneath stone and blood.

Together, they would descend into the forbidden belly of the castle.

  The dungeons awaited.

And with them, the beginning of a legend.

For fate calls fools to darkness—sometimes to return as flame.
