The twin suns had set, making way for the blue moon illuminating the demon realm.
The city was in ruins, all the homes lost, the magic that sustained them for centuries was destroyed. The damage will take a while to recover, but despite all this, the city was silent, for all were tired after the long day.
But after the battle all gathered to pay their respects to the dead demons the guards who give their life to fulfill their duties.
Later that day
In the tavern, or at least the place where it once stood, the air filled with the aftermath of the battle still carrying the smell of blood.
Here gathered the guardians of the western kingdom.
Bane, Stark, Ryan, Riley, and Reed. All of them stood around Leo, who still hadn't woken up, lying on a damaged couch.
Reed started speaking, "Princess, I was told to give you this letter."
Riley grabbed the letter from his hands and saw Leo's face. Tears started flowing in her beautiful face.
Ryan spoke, "Don't worry princess, my friend here will not die so easily."
Stark added, "Exactly. We survived the worst thanks to him. His story will not end, not here, not now."
Bane spoke up, "Death dare not touch the one heaven wants to live."
The people still didn't know what happenedon the wall after the crystal shattered.
Reed asked, "Mr. Bane, what exactly happened on the wall?"
All the people present were curious as well.
Ryan added, "Please tell us, old master."
Bane started speaking, "After the guards went in, the crystal shattered, and then the ashes of the core surrounded Leo, healed him, killed all the beasts. The damaged city is also due to its aftermath."
Tom's eyes constricted.
Bane continued, "Then the ashes formed a new core. That's what happened there."
Tom spoke, "I have heard of it, the failsafe the old demon queen left in case her defense failed. I always thought it was but a mere nonsense. It was true after all."
Stark spoke, "Let's give Leo some space to rest. The doctor saw him. He is perfectly normal. He only needs some time to wake up."
Everyone agreed to leave Leo to rest. Riley alone stayed back.
Just as they were about to leave, Ryan spoke, "If only that shithead Grod was here. He is the sole reason for this. Only if he took is dead, then all will be good."
Stark replied, "He will meet an end he deserves, don't worry."
They left, and Riley sat next to Leo.Her eyes moistened up, her hand trembling. She placed her hands on Leo's cheeks. She spoke with her trembling voice, "You stupid demon, all this time I thought you were dead. I lived with that. Now you show up suddenly only to fall before me again.Don't you dare leave me, never again..."
Cried out the gentle soul.
She opened the letter Leo left her. It read the following:
"My dear friend Riley,
I am glad you lived. I regretted not holding on to you till the end that fateful day.Fate was not completely cruel to me. Even though I had lost you both that day, I gained another important person in my life.My master. After his teaching I understood something: I can't bring back the dead, but I can bring forward what they carried—their life's purpose, their duty. As long as I do it as my own, they still live in this world through me.So I took the duty of my sister. I decided to protect the demons from the tyrant's rule.I don't know if I will be alive when you get this letter. But rejoice. I took my first step.I killed the golden star...."
As she was reading the letter, a loud sound was heard. Riley hurries out. All others too followed her.
A giant wyvern landed just outside the tavern. Ryan identified it. He spoke up, "This... we saw this same stepped in Gord’s palace yesterday night."
But this was not the same as yesterday. Today, this wyvern's armor was shattered, its once sharp talons now broken. In the place of its left eye, there only existed a claw mark. Judging by the size, the beast was at least 10 times larger than the wyvern.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Ryan continued, "The beast is severely injured. What could have happened?"
Everyone were puzzled.
Bane, "There is only one beast in the forest of nightmares capable of this destruction."
Reed, with anticipation, asked, "Which is?"
Bane, with a stern look in his eyes, his throat dried up, as he spoke up, "The Lord of the Skies."
Ryan, startled, asked, "But how? Didn't they have the full supply of Orizon herbs?"
Bane laughed and continued, "So that's why. It all makes sense now."
"What do you mean? Why are you laughing?" asked Stark with a concern-filled face.
Bane spoke, "Stark, the reason why the beasts avoid the Orizon herbs, and why we ourselves don't use it the same, it's because it's the favourite of the Lord of the Skies. No beast dare to offend that monstrosity."
As he spoke, Bane headed near the wyvern. On the carriage it carried, there was a severed lower body.
The body belonged to an obviously large, fat demon who wore a white robe, now painted with blood.
Ryan recognised it. He spoke, "It's the golden demon star. He's dead. Hahahahahaaaa!Heaven has eyes after all."
Stark came forward, spoke, "Indeed. He wore this on the day we were poisoned. It's indeed him."
Bane spoke, "Maybe he would have survived if he had not taken the whole Orizon herb supply from the city, or maybe if he had gone in another route. Well, it may be due to his deeds he had such a meaningless death."
Tom, sensing this had something deeper hidden in it, spoke, "Really? The demon known for his caution died so meaninglessly? I wonder where he got the idea to take the Orizon herbs."
Ryan spoke up, "Leo explained to Gord the plan to evacuate the citizens on the night. Thankfully, Gord betrayed us. We didn’t follow that path.
Yeah, a demon can't be correct all the time. Even Leo makes mistakes," as he laughed.
"Was it really a mistake? One who knew that Orizon herbs could keep the beasts away—how could he have not known its true nature?" Thinking this, Tom laughed out.
"What happened, Tom?" asked Stark.
Tom said, "Maybe there's hope for us demons to survive the tyrant after all."
Stark, not understanding what Tom said, asked, "Whatever do you mean?"
Tom reassured him, "Nothing, old friend."
Riley went back to Leo's room. She too understood what happened—how it was Leo's idea all along, how the whole kingdom played in the palm of his hands. She sat down and continued reading the letter.
"Now just five more to go, then the demon king, then the people will finally be free.
I am really glad I could meet you again. In case I don't survive, take care of yourself. Remember: always eat in time, sleep well, and always be happy—for my sake.
With love, your old friend."
The letter ended. As she finished reading it, a tear fell on the letter, erasing the words on it.
But those words are now forever etched in the young princess's heart.
She folded the letter and went to her room to sleep.
Next day, the twin suns rose up in the sky.
A cavalry came carrying the flag bearing the symbol of the Hell Hounds (a face of furious hound). The black and crimson flag waves in the air.
"Princess, we were sent here to escort you back home!" shouted a knight in the front of the legion.
Riley looked up to Reed, "I don't want to go," she cried, her tender eyes moistening.
Reed reassured her, "Princess, you have to go. Don't worry about Leo, I will stay with him all the time and take great care of him."
The gang said goodbye to the princess. She left.
Bane, remembering his duty, tookcharge as the Chancellor of the Western Kingdom. Again, after all these years, the old ruler is back.
Stark, Ryan, and Reed, with the help of the guards and the knights, helped the demons to rebuild their homes.
As the suns rose to their peak in the tavern, the eyes of a young demon twitched. A jerk ran to his hands, his mouth opened, he took a deep breath. Finally, after all this time, he opened his eyes.
End of Season 1
Prologue
That night
— the North Wizard Tower
— the Southern Hell Hounds
— and the Eastern Knight Academy
all received word of what happened.
In the Western Kingdom, under the shadows of the night, in a lone alley, stood two figures.
One says, "Are you sure? Will he be good for our cause?"
The second one replies, "I trust him with my life."
The former says, "Then do what needs to be done. Long live the rebellion."
The latter replied, "Long live the rebellion."
The former vanished in the shadows. The latter moved out of the shadow—revealing to be Ryan.
In a dark room miles away from our young demon, there sat two figures. In the light of a candle, they were sitting facing each other.
One figure spoke up, "Gord is dead. The old demon star is alive and back. The culling was stopped, and the one who led all this to happen was a young demon."
The other one replied, "Indeed."
"I wonder where he came from," asked the first figure.
The other one slowly leaned forward, removed his hood. The fire's light reflected in his bald, wrinkled head.
"This much is expected. He is my student after all, the bearer of the Medallion of Kings."
The other figure bent back, took his jug of demonic wine and banged it on the table, laughed fanatically, "Hahahahahahaaaaaa! So that’s how it was, no wonder." He continued,"Say, old man, will he finally be the one? The one to break the generational curse?"
The old master continued, "The young always surpass the old after all."
The other figure said, "If the advisor of the former king Leonard himself says this, maybe there's hope after all."
The old advisor said with a grin," the hands that stoped when the old king died is starting to move again, the cured fate started its play ,the spark is lit , hahahahahaaaaaa" The laugh resonated into the depth of the night .
What will happen next?Who did Ryan talk to?What is his identity?Where will fate take Leo?Stay tuned to find out in the next season.
