chapter -60 -the end

  Chapter 60

In the blank dreamscape, the Fairy King started to explain.

It was about 3000 years ago when the world's mana began to twist and gave birth to twisted mana. That twisted mana affected life. It twisted life, turning normal beings into monsters, destroying life as we knew it. There was no way out. When the world as we knew it stood on the verge of annihilation, out of nowhere it came into existence — Heaven, an entity which fought against the horrors of twisted mana and saved all life in the world.

But it was not the end.

It was but the beginning of a nightmare for us.

Heaven chose the beings who stood on top of their particular race and gave them one job — to make sure that their people did not exceed the threshold of population it set.

For 3000 years the demon realm had been under the rule of Heaven. The first Demon King became Heaven’s messenger, blessed with its immense power. He demanded the lives of our people in exchange for the safety of the realm.

Every two decades this sacrifice had been going on.

Sometimes as the beast hordes from the Forest of Nightmare, sometimes as the undead from the Tomb of Life, sometimes as a failed experiment by the Mage Tower.

  This cycle continued for centuries.

The king in all this was the ultimate sacrifice. Each cycle ended by claiming the blood of the royal family.

The old king thought that no more lives shall be lost. So he went out to the human realm to find a way. He wandered for 12 years where he found key information.

  The Heaven’s messenger’s words were a lie.

He was abusing Heaven’s power to raise his own authority.

He discovered that the source of his power was the fear people had toward Heaven.

So the king decided to hide Heaven from history.

When returning to the realm he brought a human along with him — a man who had lost his memories. He raised him.

When the Heaven’s messenger came to get the sacrifice he decided to fight him by trying to evacuate the people out of the realm. But ultimately the king and queen died before doing so.

But from that moment the human understood something — that the only way to save the demons of the realm is to make sure they save themselves.

Then he began his plan of two decades, with you as the centerpiece of the world.

With the demons who swore to fight with him, he conducted a ritual to hide you from Heaven’s eyes, which he succeeded in.

He placed his trusted demonic stars in place and guided your growth. He never controlled it but merely guided you on the right path.

When I asked him if it would work he replied:

“He is the king’s son, my brother. He shall not deviate from the path of the king. Only by enduring these trials can a true king be born.”

Then he did what was supposed to be done — protecting you from death and protecting your people.

  He, a human, stood there.

Today the fated day after two decades the messenger arrives again.

He found that the messenger only has authority in his space, and his space is the land ruled by the Demon King.

So he chose to be the king who remained back.

For as long as he died there, then the demon race itself shall attain freedom.

Leo, hearing all this, teared up.

He came out of the transmission.

  Leo spoke:

  “You could have told me?”

  The old master replied:

“If you had known, you would have never let him die there, and he — your brother — knew it full well. Hence he decided to bear the weight all by himself.”

As he finished speaking these words the holo projector came back to life.

  The three stared at it.

On it appeared the Demon King and the six demonic stars in front of them.

The reactor which Leo believed to contain the power of the realm burst open.

From that appeared a demon clad in pure white silk, his skin containing intricate patterns of mana runes, each extruding power so strong that any one could destroy a demonic star.

  The messenger spoke:

“Hahahahahahaha! You fools, what have you done? How dare you deny Heaven’s decree? Now pay for your sins!”

  He waved his hands.

  The air vibrated.

  Mana portals opened up.

The beasts from the Forest of Nightmare — thousands and thousands of beasts — came out of the portal.

  Drake stepped forward.

“Ready, my old friends?” he asked.

The demonic stars all released their mana, stepped forward, and began to swing their weapons and spells.

The undead rose from nature, fighting the beasts.

  The skies turned black.

  The clouds gathered.

The land turned red from the blood of the beasts.

After only ten minutes of time 30,000 beasts were annihilated by the demonic stars.

They came back, knelt before Drake, and spoke:

“My king, it's done. Your next order.”

  The Heaven’s messenger spoke:

“Not bad… not bad at all.”

Then he summoned the forces of nature.

Four giants — lava, ice, earth, and wind.

Their mere presence made the six demonic stars tremble.

Their mana forms were made from the whole realm’s condensed mana.

  The messenger spoke:

  “Now try facing my minions.”

  Garry spoke:

“These are mere minions. Well guys, let’s show them the power of demons.”

Each gathered their power and burned their life.

Behind each of them golden flames began to gather, forming a single crest from all six of them — a crest symbolizing a shield in the center with the symbol of a demon’s face.

The Heaven’s messenger’s eyes grew wide.

  He muttered:

“No… how is this possible? How can you lowly livestock be acknowledged by Heaven? This is not right! I alone am the only demon acknowledged by Heaven! You can’t exist! Die!”

On his command the four abominations went to kill the demonic stars.

  The six looked at Drake.

  Drake said:

“My friends, it was an honor to be able to fight by your sides. May we meet on the other side.”

The six felt something was wrong.

The Tower Master was the first to notice something wrong.

He saw the strange mana gathering around them.

Its source — the Demon King.

Drake looked at them and said:

“Good job, my soldiers. Now leave the rest to your king and rest well.”

The mana from him engulfed the six and teleported them.

They arrived at the same place where Lera, the old master, and Leo were standing.

The six were injured, exhausted from the fight.

  The travel completely drained them.

Yet not one closed their eyes.

For even though they never said it out loud, it was their duty to witness the glory of their king until the end.

In the demon realm the messenger spoke:

“Really touching. If they had been here you could have lived a bit longer. You fool, now come meet your death.”

And for the first time since the war began, Drake moved.

He placed his fingers in his mouth and whistled.

  The skies trembled.

  The clouds danced.

  A large white shadow descended.

The Heaven’s messenger’s eyes widened as the shadow landed near Drake.

  He whispered:

  “The Silent Shriek.”

Drake saw the huge bird-like creature and spoke:

“Old friend, let’s ride one last time, just like the old days.”

The Silent Shriek made a noise acknowledging Drake’s words.

  Drake climbed onto it.

The golems already chased after Drake.

  Drake drew his sword.

This time nothing held him back.

  He raised his mana.

On the back of the Silent Shriek he flew past the four abominations, severing their cores in a single strike, turning them into dust.

  Drake spoke:

  “Is that all, Heaven?”

The Heaven’s messenger’s eyes became red.

  Veins popped from his forehead.

“Well… you are qualified for me to step in personally.”

Saying this he landed on the ground.

  He continued:

“I am the master of these lands. All demons are my slaves. All their power is my own. All creatures of this land are my feed. Now return to me.”

  He commanded.

The mana in the air dried out.

Life poured out of all the trees, creatures, and the land.

They all turned to dust as their vital mana was absorbed by this monster.

The Silent Shriek, too a part of the demon realm unable to resist his power, turned to dust slowly.

  At that moment Leo spoke:

  “Goodbye, my old friend.”

The Silent Shriek bowed its head to him — the most prideful being in the demon realm — and said its final farewell to his only master and his only friend.

The Heaven’s messenger saw this scene and spoke:

“How is this possible? No demon of this land can resist the command of mine. I am the god of this land. All that exists here are but my slaves. How can you not be affected?”

The demon king replied, "Well, unfortunate for you, I am a human."

The messenger was baffled. "A human?" he stared at him for a while and continued, "You are indeed human. Then why, why would you fight me for these demons? Just why?"

  He asked.

  Drake remembered his past.

He was in the palace garden, sitting alone, until footsteps sounded behind him, making him turn. It was King Leonard, his father.

He spoke, "What are you thinking, my son?"

Seeing Drake in deep thought, he asked.

Drake replied, "Father, why would you show me such kindness to a stranger not even of your own race? Why would you do so much for me?"

Leonard laughed as he looked at the night sky. He pointed his finger at the blue moon and replied,

"My son, it is the moon's duty to illuminate the skies, as it is the king's duty to protect and take care of his people. I need no reason to protect a child suffering in front of me."

  Leo smiled.

Now back in the present, Leo replied,

"It is but the duty of the king to protect his people. I need no reason to do my duty."

  The messenger snapped,

"Well fine then, if you insist on this, I shall give you a way out. Tell me where the demons have gone and I shall spare you and make you their eternal king."

  Leo smiled.

"Hahahahahahahaha! You dumb fellow, you really think I will sell out my people? Want to find them? Best of luck. Perhaps after another 3000 years you could have looked through about 1 percent of all known space, and if you are lucky you may find their fossils," laughed Drake.

The heaven's messenger replied with fury,

"Well, since you made your choice, I shall comply. Face my strongest attack."

He raised his hands. The mana runes on his skin glowed, rose from his skin, and flew to the skies gathering the thunder clouds.

  The messenger spoke,

"Get ready to face Heaven's fury — the Lightning Tribulation of Heaven."

As he said these words, the clouds began to cry in fury. The thunder began to crack the skies. Heaven's complete fury came forth, gathering all the realm's mana and ready to strike the demon king.

Drake smiled and stood there in place.

  He spoke,

  "Your tyranny ends with me."

  The messenger replied,

  "Now die."

As he said those words, thunder fell on Drake's body, turning his mana circuits into dust. His body was charred from the first thunder, his life barely clinging on.

  The heaven's messenger spoke,

"Final chance. Now kneel to me and surrender."

Drake asked with his burnt mouth,

  "Is that all?"

  The messenger became furious.

Drake now used his sword and plunged it into the ground, barely standing.

The next thunder strike hit him.

This time his muscles and skin all burned. His body was a mere skeleton with his organs remaining.

He still stared at the messenger and asked with what vocal cords remained in him,

  "Is that all?"

The heaven's messenger in fury spoke,

"There is no time. Heaven shall arrive soon. Kill him now!"

That time the thunder grew more furious.

  The fourth bolt hit.

  He was vaporized.

The heaven's messenger sighed with relief.

  "Finally, he's gone."

  At that moment something happened.

A voice resonated through the mana in the air.

  "Is that all?"

The heaven's messenger looked forward where Drake's ashes remained. The air gathered mana around him, showing his soul still burning with the same amount of fury.

  He asked again,

  "Is that all?"

  The heaven's messenger got mad.

  "All at once, hit him!"

The clouds gathered and the thunder grew stronger than ever.

  The messenger spoke,

  "Now face the soul-annihilating thunder!"

  Drake stood his ground.

  The thunder was brewing.

  Then something unexpected happened.

The air, devoid of mana, suddenly gave birth to mana.

  The mana flowed behind Drake.

It weaved a pattern behind him — a shield made of golden thread, much more defined than what the six had created.

The thread continued to weave a pattern of a demon's face with a grand crown on his head.

Using the skies as canvas, nature wove a proof of his achievement.

"A true crest… No! How can you, a mere mortal, achieve that which even the gods dare not imagine easily? He cannot be left to live. Kill him, O Heaven's fury!"

  The skies roared.

  Thunder was born.

Lightning struck the soul of the king.

His soul almost faded, set on fire, burning, vanishing into oblivion.

The transmission on the other side stopped.

Lera, the old master, and the six demon stars spoke,

  "No! My king!"

Leo's eyes teared up , on his face flowed not tears but his boiling blood. he said" Heaven shall pay for this ". his mana ran wild , pushing down everyone around him.

Maria spoke" Leo , calm down".

Leo finally calmed down, the 6 demonic stars fell unconscious , and shifted under Leo's orders

The six were under medical care in their tents.

In the central tent Leo stood with Maria, Lera, Melody, his master and Ryan .

  Leo spoke,

"I, who was called the Child of Mana, holder of the All-Seeing Eyes, failed to see what was in front of me. I shall pay for my mistakes."

He took a cloth and tied his eyes.

"As long as I have lived, I was blind. From this moment onward I swear not to use my eyes — the eyes which lied to me, which failed to see the truth shall hence forth not see anything."

Maria steped forward " leo" she called ,only to be stopped by his sister ,she said" let him mourn the loss of our brother " as she stood strong holding back the flooded emotins of hers.

The demons there acknowledged the words of Leo.

Leo came out of the tent , he commanded " my demons gather ", the demons gathered in a moment

Leo spoke " my demons we have been cheated , the tyrant king is not a tyrant , he is a true king". he continued to narrate the whole tale .

the demons , the free spirited warriors , hearing that a human fought for them and died for them , buring his very fibre of his existance for demons he barely knew. the demons present there who heard this story , had a seed planted in them , the very seed that will engulf the very heavens one day.

Leo steped forward, he drew his crimson sword and planted it on the ground , passed his mana through it , rasing the ground above forming a patch of slab, which he the carved with his very sword forming the statue of their king .

  Leo continued ,

"From this day forth he is the only king of our demon kind. We lived thanks to him. Now according to his will we shall set forth into the stars and use our hard-earned freedom. I hereby command — all souls that embrace the spirit of freedom are demons, our own. We shall protect our own, for that is the legacy our kings left for us, and that is the legacy we shall leave behind for our future."

then he placed the crimson sword on the statue's hand and continued,

"my demons , from this day forth we are free, we shall follow the path of our king , even after death he lives in us , our every action, our every decision he stay with us guiding us , our leader the demon who fought against the heaven and defeated it , from this day forth we shall honor our saviour by carrying his name, the demon who defied heaven, we are the tribe of the heavenly demon."

And thus the story of the death of the Heavenly Demon concluded.

or did it. maybe a small correction not the death , but the birth of the heavenly demon.

a few moments ago in the realm of demons ,

stood the heaven's messenger in front of Drake's burnt soul wisp, behind him

The crest behind him glowed brighter.

  Thunder didn't stop.

The sixth, seventh, and eighth lightning struck.

Finally the place where Drake's soul stood held only a wisp of consciousness remaining.

But the crest glowed brighter and brighter.

  The heaven's messenger spoke,

"How is this possible? You, a mere mortal, why won't you just die already? Even gods can't withstand eight tribulations! No matter. Now you shall fall."

  The ninth lightning descended.

  Something changed in the air.

  The ground trembled.

  The air lit up.

Hundreds of pseudo golden crests came to life.

In front of Drake stood the souls of the past demon kings.

"You are qualified to carry our legacy," said the souls in unison as their crests dismantled and became part of Drake's own, finally giving birth to a true crest.

Their souls nourished Drake's own, giving him back his soul.

  The heaven's messenger spoke,

  "No! Stop it!"

At that moment a voice sounded.

  The messenger looked forward.

  Drake spoke,

  "Is that all?"

As his eyes looked at the messenger, the heaven's messenger fell back due to the intensity of Drake's gaze.

The air around the clouds changed.

The messenger's face showed panic, fear.

  He started to blabber,

"No! It's not over! Give me one more chance! I will make it right!"

But the skies turned pure white.

Light filled the land, healing it.

The light fell on Drake's body, healing him.

An entity of light descended, looked at the messenger and spoke,

"You have abused your power. Now pay for it."

In a moment the heaven's messenger turned to dust.

  He then looked at Drake.

  The light spoke,

"Drake, you humans never cease to amaze me. Today thou hast defied Heaven, pursuing thine freedom. I heaven shall grant you this title for your crest — the proof that Heaven has acknowledged your action. From this moment onward you shall bear the name of the demon who fought and survived Heaven — the Heavenly Demon."

  Drake was baffled.

Before he could say anything, the light waved at him.

  He was teleported somewhere.

  The entity spoke,

"The candidate has been selected. May Lady Luck bless your path, O Heavenly Demon."

The realm folded on itself and was turned into a wasteland.

On the other side of space, Leo stood in front of the crystal ball.

the story concludes, the birth of heavenly demon .

the pages closed a voice called " myu come on , we need to leave"

myu replied" old man , I found the record of the captain , I found how he was came to be called the heavenly demon"

the old man replied" come on now don't waste time the world is counting on us"

  myu replied" yes sir".
