Tomas groaned as he kicked the bedsheet off his body, he had been in Larshak's physician house for three days. Within that time he had been nursed to good health and grown a bit fond of the physicians daughter, Mera.
In the time he had spent there he had always been woken up early every morning by the sounds of screaming. It always came from the room next to his and he had ignored it at first but the screams became more bone rattling by the second.
Listening to it filled him with a lot of dread.
He sat up straight, his eyes shot up as his gaze narrowed in on the wall opposite him; fearing the screams would shatter it.
Several seconds passed, feeling like minutes. But then it stopped abruptly, in that moment his chest tightened. He had not realised he had been holding his breath through the whole ordeal, he let himself breath. Surprised by how heavy his breathing was he paused for a bit before taking another breath.
A few minutes passed leaving him paralysed in fear, he could still recall the screams of his friends and family from Emberfall burning alive. It was as vivid as the day itself.
The door to his room opened slowly and in stepped Mera, the physicians daughter. Her bright face and warm smile instantly hit him with a wave of new life. She had her long golden hair done in twin braids. She walked in with a small tray in hand, on the tray were a number of bottled liquids.
She seemed to notice the fall in his mood immediately and waved him a warm smile. "Is something wrong?"
He shook his head and spoke in a low voice. "That man in the other room, what's wrong with him?"
Mera walked over to him and stopped by the bead, her eyes trembled for a second before she spoke. "He came in a few days ago, he's a true knight I think. Papa says he was poisoned and he's still recovering."
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
The old Tomas who had jumped up just by hearing that name. The current him felt a bit reclusive to galavant in that department, but he was still a bit interested by the knowledge of it.
As a child he had always wanted to be a TRUE KNIGHT. It was a title given to a small order of elite knights who were well beyond the limitations of human strength and power. Unlike royal knights who maintained law and order in the kingdoms, the true knights were the real power over the human realm. They were the peak level knights who fought of monsters that threaded the human realm or got beyond the wall.
Tomas had always heard stories of how a handful of true knights had held horde of monsters from breaching the wall for days.
"Are you alright?" Mera asked in a concerned tone.
He blinked twice before he responded. "Can I see him, please?"
A look of confusion appeared on her face, "Why?"
He hesitated for a bit, his gaze falling to the tray in her hand before rising back to meet her. "It's... Personal."
She gave a bit of a pause, and he could tell from the look on her face that she was a bit bothered by his request. For one it was rare for a patient to request to meet another patient, but Tomas was different. Kind and also strong. And he had never requested for anything, this was another reason why she was a bit troubled by his strange request.
Eventually she bit her lower lip and replied nervously. "I'm not sure about that."
He gave her a slight smile and spoke. "Well, you did say I needed to get out some more."
She pressed both her lips together and hesitated for a few more seconds before finally saying. "It's not that, the man is very hard to work with."
"Well so am I?" Tomas said in his defense and watched her cheeks burn bright red.
Mera turned her way away from him and said nothing for a short while before giving a shrug of her shoulders and turning to face him. "Fine, but you have to take your medicine first. And don't blame me for anything that happens afterwards."
It only took a few minutes before they were out of the room he had been in previously and entered into the long hall illuminated by the sunlight coming through the windows. He was escorted to the room right next to his, the door was slightly ajar.
Tomas noticed Mera shudder slightly since she had her arms wrapped around his, they stopped before the door and he could hear her heavy breathing. He gave her a reassuring nod and left her arms, he took a few steps forward. His steps were slow and heavy, he was beginning to feel a sudden chill permeating the air between him and the room, it almost felt like his senses were being pressured by a strange aura.
One feeling became more prominent in his senses and if he wanted to put it to words it would ge— FEAR.
Tomas reached the door and reached for it, he watched his hands tremble as they got closer to it. He pushed it open slowly, and winced slightly when he heard it creak.
Light flooded the room revealing more of its interior to him. What he could see inside was a bed, it's sheets scattered and rough. The curtains on the window flapping violently despite the absence of wind entering the room.
However there was one figure standing openly in the room, it was that of a man at first. But with a closer look it seemed to be the physique of a monster than a man. The man was half naked, with his back to them. He currently had his arms outstretched to reveal a very detailed physique. Sweat poured down like rain drops, and steam rose off the back of the built man.
Tomas was breathless at the picture before him, "Is this a man or a demon?"
