Chapter Seventy Five: The Knight and the Brown Bear

The twilight river shimmered in gold and violet. Ripples brushed against smooth stones, and the tall reeds swayed like slow dancers in the wind. The air smelled faintly of pine and cool earth.

Euly and Gravixor stood at the edge of the clearing, wooden practice blades clashing gently, their laughter mixing with the whisper of the river. They'd been sparring for nearly an hour, but neither was truly trying to win. Each step, each playful feint, was an excuse to stay in that moment, two souls moving in rhythm.

"You're holding back again," Gravixor teased, swinging her blade low.

Euly ducked easily. "Maybe I'm just being polite," he said with a grin.

"Polite? You think I need your pity, knight boy?"

He chuckled and side-stepped her next strike, his boots barely stirring the grass. "You hit like thunder, Gravixor. I'd like to keep my ribs for tomorrow."

She laughed, full and unrestrained, the kind of laugh that made the whole world feel lighter. But then their blades locked, close, too close. For a moment, neither moved. The wind went still, the world small enough to fit inside the space between their breaths. They both fell to the ground. Euly fell on top of Gravixor. They stared into each other's eyes. Euly was obviously tall, and she was much smaller. She couldn't help but be mesmerized by his beauty. Euly asked, "Have you ever kissed a boy?" Gravixor's heart raced, she shook her head. "Grax says I should wait."

And before she could even speak, Euly kissed her, and Gravixor kissed back, lips locked, not desperate, not planned, just a meeting of hearts. When it ended, Euly sat up. Gravixor was completely flustered, yet he was so composed. Gravixor sat up, ears twitching wildly, cheeks glowing beneath her fur.

"Wow, that was.....nice" she started, voice trembling.

Euly looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. "I... didn't mean to make things weird."

She blinked, then laughed under her breath, still flustered. "You didn't, but you did catch me off guard."

  He smiled faintly. "Sorry."

She looked at him for a long moment, the sound of the river filling the silence. "Don't be sorry. No one's ever done that before," she whispered. "No boy's ever kissed me."

Euly's expression softened. "Then I'm honored."

Gravixor sat down by the riverbank, dipping her feet into the water. "I thought knights were supposed to be all stoic and proper, you didn't even ask me out."

He joined her, setting his sword aside. "Sorry, I couldn't help it, Gravixor. You're so beautiful."

  Gravixor's cheeks burned red.

The water shimmered between them, silver now as the sun faded. Fireflies began to drift out from the reeds, blinking softly in the dusk.

For a while, neither spoke. The quiet was comfortable, like a shared secret.

Gravixor broke the silence first. "You know what I want, someday?"

Euly looked at her. "What's that?"

"I want to lead the Bear Tribe." She smiled faintly, tracing ripples in the water with her toes. "Not as some war-chief or hero, but as a real 'mama bear.' I want the cubs to grow up without fear. I want the others to rest easy at night."

Euly tilted his head. "You already sound like one."

  She laughed. "You think so?"

"Yeah. You're the kind of person people gather around. Braxill likes you, Peekol is always asking about you, even Levy likes you."

Her smile faltered for just a moment. "My brother Grinex says that's a weakness, that it'll get me and others killed."

"He's probably just worried about you. The world is a scary place for zoners and animals, but I believe leaders shouldn't worry about things like that, that's what knights are for. It's our job to see the evil and defeat it while the leaders and Queens of the world do what they do bets, and that's be good to the people that need kindness."

She looked at him, eyes soft, a little vulnerable. "Wow, that wa sbesutifully said, you must have seen a lot being a knight."

He shrugged. "Maybe too much. I became a knight because I thought it would bring hope to the lowley but zoners across the distrcit have lost faith in the Zoner knights, the royal family is extremely powerful and it seems like no matter what we do, we are one day from being exterminated."

"You're still the hope they need even if they don't see it." she said

  "What does that mean?"

Gravixor gazed down at the rippling water, her reflection trembling with each soft wave.

"I once saw a boy curse God and speak cruelly about women and artists," she said quietly, her tone carrying no judgment, only memory. "Not because he truly believed those words, but because he was lost, the truth was blurred to him. But when he stood beneath the open jaws of a parasite, the heavens split apart, and Joy Himself struck it down."

Her eyes softened, a faint smile curving her lips. "That moment changed Levy, even if he still acts like a little troll."

She reached out, gently taking his hand.

"You're their Joy, Euly," she whispered. "Even if they can't see it yet."

He chuckled softly. "Thank you Gravixor."

She studied him in silence, the riverlight glinting in her eyes. For just an instant, her pupils looked... almost human. Round, bright, fragile.

  Euly blinked. "Your eyes..."

She raised a brow. "What about them?"

"They looked different for a second, they looked human."

Gravixor laughed and splashed water at him. "What do you mean."

He laughed, shaking the droplets off his coat. "Nevermind."

For a while, they just sat there, letting the river fill the pauses between their words. The moon climbed higher, silver light spilling across their shoulders.

Gravixor "Maybe when I become mama bear of Berryville, you can be my trustie knight."

Euly smiles "That doesn't sound like a bad idea, if it means I get to see your face."

The camera would linger on them, two figures outlined by moonlight, a knight who seeks meaning and a bear-girl who dreams of peace, their hearts speaking in the language of still water and soft wind.

The scene fades with the river's whisper, leaving behind warmth, and the promise that one day, one of them will have to carry the other's dream into battle.
