“What was that about?” Gabriel asked
“You don’t know?” Mei asked, she was the one without the heterochromia
“They are probably going to the tournament.” Hao answered
Gabriel nodded, having somewhat inferred that part from the conversation they had just heard but who was fighting.
“Should we go and watch? Is it an open event?” Gabriel asked
“It is happening in the training ground, we are not allowed to go” Kai replied before a thought struck him -Gabriel could literally see the light bulb go on in his head- “Except if you take us there ‘unaware of the rules.” He then proceeded to stare at Gabriel with pleading eyes.
“Is that really alright?” Gabriel asked
“If you insist, I doubt they would disagree seeing as you are Elder Chen’s assistant” Hao answered so fast, some words basically glued together as they left his mouth.
“Sure, why not?”

As soon as he said it, Kai jumped from his sit “Yes! Let’s go!” his fist pumping the air.
“You have to finish eating first” Gabriel said and enjoyed the sight of Kai deflating and then hyping himself back up before attacking his food with enthusiasm.
Gabriel followed behind an energetic Kai, Hao and the girls followed behind in a more sadated pace but Gabriel could see through their poorly disguised joy. He was a little shocked that even the girls were joyful but he accepted in stride.
Turns out, the training ground was just an open space closer to the administrative building but it had a short path connected directly from domitory. There were already a lot of disciples gathered in the training ground, the equipments had been pushed to one side to create a stage. One disciple stood in the center of the ring addressing all present as Gabriel arrived.
“I believe we all understand the rules but for the sake of clarity, a fatal blow is an instant disqualification with punishment. Winning is by knock out or pushing the opponent off the ring. We are monks above all else, let’s act like one. The first match is between brother Bo-jun and sister Ying, please make your way onto the stage.”
It was probably not an official tournament or anything of the sorts because the stage was just sand demarcated by bags of more sand, the audience, the participants everybody was either sitted or standing in the sand.
“Teacher Wu’ang!” Kai suddenly called out beside him.
One of the monks turned to the sound, before spotting them and waving them towards himself. Gabriel, seeing that as the invitation that it was, guided them toward the monk.
