46. A chance for forgiveness.

There were more preparations to make, mainly the way I would deal with Johnny.

I walked to the outskirts of town, where there were many houses, and it was all in poor condition. It made me consider the life people live through, but it was just too different than mine to think deeply about it.

I planned to bring the entire story to the light of day, but for that I needed to find somebody. Luckily I knew where she lived, however if she would be there is a different question.

I found the house I was looking for, it was in even worse condition than the ones around it. The walls were unpainted and chipping away. The door was made out of wood and had many knicks on it.

I knocked, but there was no answer. Not surprising considering the type of place it was in, who knew what kind of person usually knocks on this door.

I knocked again without fail for three minutes, and finally got an answer.

“Who is it?” A woman's voice sounded from the other side of the door.

“Hello, I am a classmate of Greta’s. I was sent to check up on her, since she hasn’t been attending classes.” I said. I had seen this house when I used my power on Greta.

The door opened to show an attractive woman in her late thirties. She had an obvious resemblance to Greta, and is likely her mother.

“How are you doing, I am Greta’s mother. I didn’t happen to catch your name.” She asked with a smile covering up deeper emotions. My curiosity got the better of me, and I activated my power.

She was relatively sinless, and even her sins were not horrible compared to others. And I could tell she was not a bad person, based on several of her sins.

“Nice to meet you, my name is Azure Barrett.” I spoke politely. However, she flinched when she heard my name.

“So you are Azure.” She said with a fearful look on her face. She already knew what her daughter had done to me, however since the new understanding of my power I was not going to make it hard on her.

“I am so sorry for what my daughter has done to you, but please don’t make it worse on her.” She dropped to her knees and grasped her hands together.

“Please rise, you shouldn’t be begging me. I don’t plan to make things hard on her, in fact I want to request her help.” I said in a gentle tone. A smile twinkle of hope appeared in the mothers eyes.

  “Really?” she asked.

“I need her help with something so could you call her?” I asked politely.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“Yes, I will right away. I will force her to help, please don’t worry.” She got up and ran to one of the two doors in the room. She was very desperate, but I knew it wouldn’t be easy to fix that.

Ten seconds later Greta’s mother was holding her up by her ear and pulling her out of the room.

Greta was looking dull with grey bags beneath her eyes. The second she saw me, I saw the expression on her face turn to one of fear.

However, Greta’s mother was ruthless, no matter what Greta tried she could not escape the grasp her mother had on her.

  “Hello, Greta.” I said gently.

“W-what are you doing here?” She asked, still afraid of me.

“I have come to ask for your help.” I replied without a change in expression.

“You mean you're not here to-” She stopped abruptly, like saying the words would ruin everything.

“No, I want your help.” I replied. Her tense shoulder dropped half an inch, but she still wore a fearful face.

“What do you want help with?” she asked, her mother’s hand now grasped tightly on her arm.

“I am going to tell everything to news reporters and I want your testimony.” I said, and Greta fell into deep thought.

“She will do it.” Her mother said, but Greta had other ideas.

“No, Mom I can’t. Johnny will tear us down, we can’t survive that.” She said.

  “Who’s Johnny?” Greta’s mother asked.

“He is the one who paid me to accuse Azure.” Greta said desperately. Once the words came out of her mouth, Greta’s mother looked heartbroken.

Greta’s mother looked at me with empathetic eyes, I could tell she was in great pain imagining what her daughter had done to me.

“Nobody will have to worry about Johnny after I am done with him.” I said clearly.

“How can you be so sure?” Greta asked.

“Because I see everything.” I responded. The words, strikingly similar to the words I used against her in the case, shocked her.

“You mean, you can see through him the same way you saw through me?” Greta asked, leaving her mother in confusion.

“Yes.” I responded. While all of this was a lie, it was not far off. I could not see Johnny’s sins. But I had other plans to screw him over.

“What does it mean when my daughter says see through?” Greta’s mother tried desperately to keep up with the situation.

“I know all the bad things people do.” I responded. There was little reason to lie about my power.

  “How?” Greta’s mother responded.

  “Secret.” I said.

“Then, just how much bad has my daughter done?” She asked.

I activated my power again to look at Greta’s sins. I activated my power even farther, memories surfing through my head.

I looked back at all the memories of her stealing and completing Johnny's tasks. To my surprise there were even more sins than the last time I checked. However, all of them happened a long time ago.

Was she now feeling guilty for the things she had done in the past?

Compared to the kids at school, I felt more hope with Greta. The people at school harshly bullied me without a second thought, and they didn’t feel a drop of guilt about it at all.

On the other hand you have Greta who feels guilty for the things she has done. My memories never showed what she did with the money she got from Johnny’s tasks. And, A lot of what she shoplifted was food and toiletries, though there were still some purses and shoes.

None of what she did was unforgivable and I even held a slight hope that she would straighten out.

“Your daughter has done a lot of bad things, but she still has a chance for forgiveness.” I said to Greta’s mother.
